Boomhauer's real secret was having such high self-esteem that he didn't care to be rejected 23 times by women before winning that one phone number. Notice how he was smiling throughout. The writing in this show is damn near perfect. The characters are believable, their dramas are realistic, they're relatable amongst themselves and their audience, and their lessons are true.
Bobby understands Boomhauer's speech without question. Its kinda hilarious that only the main cast understands him all the time. Do you remember the episode where he flat out tells a cop that they killed the crane and the cops just goes, well if you see anything call the station. Lmao

I knew a guy in the Army who was always hooking up, and it turned out this was EXACTLY his secret. He said it usually it wasn't even this bad - more like he'd get at least 1 yes for every 10 rejections. All he had to do was just develop the thick-skin to blow off every rejection and then he was in business. Of course it didn't hurt that he was a fairly handsome guy, like a young Burt Reynolds.
I’m surprised at how a lot of people don’t get this. looks, charm and success all matter a lot and the more you have the better but main thing when it comes to guys who get a lot of women it that they talk to a lot of women, they ask out more women than most do without the fear of rejection stopping them, they put themselves in better and more positions for it, they pursue it more than other men.

Back in 2009 I had friends that challenged me to do this. It was really hard at first. I got rejected a lot. I had some girls say yes but give me fake phone numbers. But I asked every girl I thought was attractive for their number and eventually found a girlfriend that way (although we'd eventually break up a year later). It's a numbers game like everything else, people saying "no" doesn't matter at all. It's about finding someone to say yes.

Boomhauer straight up teaching Bobby valuable life lessons in rejection. I've seen too many guys completely destroyed just because the girl they liked, didn't like them back. There's plenty of fish in the sea and one of them is for you. Just because the wrong ones said No, shouldn't stop you from finding the right one who says yes.
It’s also a great lesson in respect, boundaries and consent. If she says “no”, just back off and move on. It probably isn’t an insult maybe she just doesn’t want a relationship with anyone. Maybe she got out of one and wants to enjoy the single life for a bit. You just will never know for sure so don’t assume it’s the worst reason.
I mean there's truth in that, but the point of this scene was to show that Boomhauer's idea of romance is just asking until someone says yes, and why that's not the method to use if you want something meaningful and lasting. The answer lies somewhere in the middle as always (that's usually the point of King of the Hill episodes.) You have to make more of an effort than this, but you also have to get back up when you fall so you don't end up like Bill (which is also something this episode shows)

What I like about Boomhauer is his confidence and the fact that when Bobby said that he got shut down 23 times before he got that number he brushed it off like it was nothing. Honestly that's what I started doing in high school when I needed a date for an event, a dance or homecoming. Just asked every girl until one said yes. Trust me, it really does work.
In high school, my friend was on the wrestling team and they went to a meet in Reno, NV. One of the other wrestlers asked my friend to be his wingman in the under 21 section of the casino they were staying at. This reminds me of my Freshman year in HS, I was in JROTC and went to the Cadet Ball. I wish they would have written the ending of this episode differently. This could have been a real learning experience. Instead, they just made bobby realize that "This isn't the best way to pick up women and find true love." And perhaps that is correct. But the writers failed to use this amazing opportunity to teach a much more important lesson in life. That this wasn't really about how to pick up women at all. It was about persistence. How to succeed in business, in life, in anything. Overcoming your fear of failure and rejection, having the grit and perseverance to continue and keep at it. Most of the time it isn't necessarily the smartest or the best but the one who doesn't quit so soon. If you haven't failed multiple times, you've probably not been doing it long enough. I wish they wrote it so Bobby would thank Boomhower for showing that to him and apply it to his everyday life.
The cool thing about this scene is that Bobby and Boomhauer fundamentally misunderstood each other. Bobby was amazed that the Boomhauer has a secret to "getting women", problem is, Bobby doesn't know there is a difference in how picking women and courting the woman you are romantically interested in, is completely different. This is why Boomhauer himself laughs about the whole situation at the end. Had Bobby known to explain the situation, he wouldn't have suggested his "secret" method. Pretty wholesome all in all.

I knew a guy in the Army who was always hooking up, and it turned out this was EXACTLY his secret. He said it usually it wasn't even this bad - more like he'd get at least 1 yes for every 10 rejections. All he had to do was just develop the thick-skin to blow off every rejection and then he was in business. Of course it didn't hurt that he was a fairly handsome guy, like a young Burt Reynolds.
I’m surprised at how a lot of people don’t get this. looks, charm and success all matter a lot and the more you have the better but main thing when it comes to guys who get a lot of women it that they talk to a lot of women, they ask out more women than most do without the fear of rejection stopping them, they put themselves in better and more positions for it, they pursue it more than other men.
Heck even today you see it. I was at a lunch break with my coworker and he was on tinder and he was swiping literally everyone right. Didn’t even take the time to look, just spammed it.

Back in 2009 I had friends that challenged me to do this. It was really hard at first. I got rejected a lot. I had some girls say yes but give me fake phone numbers. But I asked every girl I thought was attractive for their number and eventually found a girlfriend that way (although we'd eventually break up a year later). It's a numbers game like everything else, people saying "no" doesn't matter at all. It's about finding someone to say yes.
I knew an italian guido type guy in college and watched him at the bar do the same thing, he literally made a circular lap around the bar and hit on every single girl while doing his lap to make sure he hit on every single girl at the bar. I was mind blown i never seen anything like it in person. He didnt hook up with any of them and he also didnt give a fuk one bit. Boomhauer straight up teaching Bobby valuable life lessons in rejection. I've seen too many guys completely destroyed just because the girl they liked, didn't like them back. There's plenty of fish in the sea and one of them is for you. Just because the wrong ones said No, shouldn't stop you from finding the right one who says yes.
It’s also a great lesson in respect, boundaries and consent. If she says “no”, just back off and move on. It probably isn’t an insult maybe she just doesn’t want a relationship with anyone. Maybe she got out of one and wants to enjoy the single life for a bit. You just will never know for sure so don’t assume it’s the worst reason.
I mean there's truth in that, but the point of this scene was to show that Boomhauer's idea of romance is just asking until someone says yes, and why that's not the method to use if you want something meaningful and lasting. The answer lies somewhere in the middle as always (that's usually the point of King of the Hill episodes.) You have to make more of an effort than this, but you also have to get back up when you fall so you don't end up like Bill (which is also something this episode shows)

I think the moral is that each person has their own way of viewing relationships. Bobby's isn't wrong, he isn't comfortable with asking random strangers out for quick dates. And boomhaurs isn't wrong, hes looking for quick hookups, he isn't deceitful, the women know what they're gettin into. That's why so many blow his advances off. I do also agree that having the courage to make advances is a prevalent message here.

This reminds me of my Freshman year in HS, I was in JROTC and went to the Cadet Ball. I didn't have a date so I didn't have anyone to dance with during slow songs, so asked around if a girl wanted to dance. I was shot down multiple times. However I did get a few girls that said "yes" The "no's" didn't matter anymore. The next day in class our Col. complimented me on it saying.
"He was not afraid to go up to a girl and ask to dance."
The worst a girl can say is no, don't be afraid of rejection.

@@peterparquer1873 In college I had a lot more luck with women. I was in a relationship at the time, but I noticed a lot of the women I knew didn't like that I was in a relationship. I don't know what changed, MS and HS I had okay luck, but college I could've had my pick.

I wish they would have written the ending of this episode differently. This could have been a real learning experience. Instead, they just made bobby realize that "This isn't the best way to pick up women and find true love." And perhaps that is correct. But the writers failed to use this amazing opportunity to teach a much more important lesson in life. That this wasn't really about how to pick up women at all. It was about persistence. How to succeed in business, in life, in anything. Overcoming your fear of failure and rejection, having the grit and perseverance to continue and keep at it. Most of the time it isn't necessarily the smartest or the best but the one who doesn't quit so soon. If you haven't failed multiple times, you've probably not been doing it long enough. I wish they wrote it so Bobby would thank Boomhower for showing that to him and apply it to his everyday life.

The cool thing about this scene is that Bobby and Boomhauer fundamentally misunderstood each other.
Bobby was amazed that the Boomhauer has a secret to "getting women", problem is, Bobby doesn't know there is a difference in how picking women and courting the woman you are romantically interested in, is completely different.
This is why Boomhauer himself laughs about the whole situation at the end. Had Bobby known to explain the situation, he wouldn't have suggested his "secret" method.
