You don't happen to recall where the cam lobes were when you got the mark for timing after stalling the cam? I moved to TDC but the cam lobes I should have paid attention to before taking of the phasers. Trying to make sure they are in the right spot before bolting on the phasers in my job! How do I tell if ur cams are sitting right. With the vvt u put ur marks on crankshaft top dead center then mark on intake sprocket. Then when u put ur mark on exhaust sprocket it has to be turned to put on its marks

Replaced the timing parts and now I have a code saying the timing between the crank and cams are out of phase. I lined up the marks on all the sprockets with the colored links and checked it 4 times before closing the enigne up. Runs well, but cannot get the engine light out. Question, are the cam actuators the same part numbers? If not is it possible I switched them? I am at witts end. Please help

I have been building engines for 30 yrs and only done this procedure when the head can get line bored at a machine shop.

ok so i know the engine in the 2011 equinox i had at my shop was not an aui motor but i installed a 2012 engine. it ran great but would stall when you tried to drive it. i am wondering if the intake cam shaft would have to be switched cause the code i am getting is p0089. that was the only thing i did not do when installing the engine in the 2011.
Not if it's a 2012 engine. 2010 was a fuckin nightmare, unique timing, 1 year only cam reluctor styles, 2011 is same story but intake cam is set at 7 rather than 5(2010)
It's a 32mm I believe, 55 lbs if I recall, and once your all together you just press against the primary chain tensioner arm(just press against the chain) and it'll set.

Hey bro I got a buick 2.4L. 2012 buick verano. I pulled the head off to have it rebuilt to due bent valves. I rotated the crankshaft to clean the piston tops & forgot to rotate it backwards to the original place. Now I can't get it to run. It runs & shuts off. I replaced everything on the timing system. Upper & lower guides vvt sprockets. New pcm new key & new crank sensor. How do I fix the crankshaft placement for it to run. It runs for a few secs then shut off
Make sure the crankshaft is on the compression stroke! As you bring it to 12o clock, put a piece of toilet paper or a cigarette to watch smoke. Or have a buddy put their finger over the #1 to feel if air is pushing out. Not in.
Yes the mark is on the top of the gear. The crank keyway matches to it @ the 12 o'clock position that's TDC. The marks on the chain is a secondary timing mark to co witness it.

Hey so my question is could you put a 2010 laf motor in a 2014 and have it run right?
Crankshaft bolt is a torque to yield as well, so needs to be replaced. Camshaft bolts for phaser as well like he stated.

Did you have to crank the cam about four times to see if it lines back up on the marks???

The 2010 cam is 1 year only and gm discontinued it 🤦♂️ hard to obtain but there's some Asian website to buy a new one. It's $200 btw.. so eff'd up!

No body shows the actual process of setting the tensioner. I’d like to see what you’re actually prying against

I r been told a Malibu engines won't work in an equinox!! Something about decoding the cams part number. # is between 2 and 3 cylinders on the shafts.
Just changed an engine, same as you. Did not change phasers. Runs good except at first acceleration. Is it because phasers?
You have to change the phasers and intake cam or else you have issues with hpfp and timing

Solenoids are different also I believe.
The LEA is a great engine. I’m surprised more of these aren’t tuned. I’d love to see one swapped into a Sonoma.

The exhaust cam is the same on both motors old phaser will work.

You have to change the intake cam from the 2010 to the 2015 use the 2010 phaser with the cam when timing.

Yes may have to change out some brackets, covers and motor mounts but it's the same block and engine
