This brings back memories. Esai Morales is one of my favorite actors. He was fantastic playing the tortured soul of Bob. But this movie is not just about music. It's the story of 2 brothers who had different fathers. There is a very powerful scene later in the film when Bob and his mother are fighting and she says to him through the window, "I have enough to worry about Ritchie." In a moment of brutal truth and pain, Bob turns around with wounded eyes and screams "You always care more about Ritchie, you couldn't give a damn about me. You turned me in, You locked me up." Pretty much sums up how the mother's favoritism between her two sons impacted them as individuals. She favored Ritchie because his father was white, served in the military and considered a hero. Bob's father was the opposite. In fact the movie doesn't reveal much about him. But we are to assume his son was a reflection of him. Richie wanted to play music and a way to provide for his family. All Bob wanted was the love from his mother.
