  • Here is a PC that I got as a trade in for $150 AUD (which is like $105 USD~~~) It has some good specs in it, though I was told that the computer just wouldn't boot no matter what the person did. So today we are going to go through a tech yes journey. Enjoy!

I used WD-40 on my aunts Dell to take off some stickers. Then noticed it looked like new. Spayed the whole thing down a year ago and it doesn't have any dust on it and still looks brand new. I did the same to my Razer Lycrosa. First took all the keys off and soaked them in windex for a few minutes then they turned kind of white. installed the rubberized keys and cleaned the whole thing with WD, It's been 4 months now and the keyboard still looks brand new. Side note. I let the keyboard sit for about a week unused to let the WD settle in and dry off. No dust and not slimy nor sticky to the touch. Also, I don't live in a dusty house. I vacuum frequently and dust often so that should be taken into account for the no dust settling on the Case and Keyboard.

Hey, Bryan: always enjoy your excellent refurbs. FYI: we've recently had a lot of success with a refurbished HP Z220 MT (mid-tower), i7-3770 installed: that motherboard comes with 1 x16 PCIe 3.0 slot. We installed a bootable Highpoint SSD7103 with 4 x Samsung 970 EVO NVMe SSDs in RAID-0, and migrated Windows 10 to that RAID-0 using a licensed copy of Partition Wizard. CDM measured READs at 11,697 MB/second. HP builds really good hardware, and spare parts are plentiful too.

Hooked up to my TV I have a itx rig - i7 2600 paired with a 770 for couch gaming and watching movies. Only upgraded to a i7 8700 to get some faster rendering times and m.2 support on the motherboard. The older CPUs were still plenty fast for gaming!

I encounter same problem with an OEM Foxconn motherboard, this is on Acer desktop mini-tower. It Fan spin then shutdown, that's all it does, it fan spin then shutdown, it won't boot, no error beep, nothing wrong with RAM, GPU or HDD. After a thorough inspection I found bent pins at the CPU socket, but accidentally broke 1 off while pushing it back, luckily it's only a Ground pin for this H57 motherboard... then I found corrosion on one of its SATA port & cleaned it up, and then a tiny inductor coil almost broke off on this board while I scrub it, luckily the wire is intact so I just tape it down... then after all that, only after I removed its CMOS battery will the board Boot up successfully. Also its CMOS is broken, it never saves its setting if on battery.

I'll admit... I laugh every time you break out the WD-40... you could be the Albert Einstein of restoring PCs, be 100% correct in everything you say, and by gum, WD-40 is indeed, the best thing you could ever do for a PC... and i'm still going to laugh... it just seems so darn goofy. I love your channel... maybe I just come to see "will he break out the WD-40 this time?". Keep up the great work!
On the CPU Cooler, while the CM Hyper 411R is either hard to come by or overpriced in the US, the closest 92mm Cooler Master option easily available in the US at a cheap price is the CM Hyper T2... though it lacks an LED fan (it could of course be swapped out with one though). There's so many cooling tower options in the US though at 92mm and 120mm sizes, there's no shortage of options there.
Oh, and oddy enough, I recently pieced together a "spare parts/E-Bay" system for my son... using an ASUS P8Q77-M MB, i7-3770, GTX 1060-6GB, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD... so, very similar to what you ended up with here, and he loves it.

What did you do with the Gigabyte board in the end? Did you try a full BIOS reset & new battery as described elsewhere here, or a BIOS restoration/flashback? Remove the coin-like BIOS battery on the faulty board, shorten the power button pins for 10-15 seconds and wait about 10 minutes, then put the battery back. If that doesn't help, replace it with a brand new battery with good brand. You can also measure it with a multimeter, if its under 3.00V then its not good.

A friend of mine had a similar issue with a Gigabyte board, but it wasn't Z77 it was H67 and it was brand new. He had to return the board and get it replaced 3 times before he got one that didn't boot loop. Then not long after the warranty ran out it started boot looping. Got in touch with Gigabyte and was told to send the board in and it would cost £50, but they also said if they couldn't fix it they wouldn't refund the £50. Turned out this was a common issue with Gigabyte non high end boards and Sandy/Ivy Bridge . Since then neither me nor my friend will touch Gigabyte with a barge pole.

Nice, kind of like my build... I7-3770 on P8H61-MX USB3, 16GB HyperX CL10 1600, GTX1060 6GB … Asmedia SATA 3 to get a bit more out of my SSD (but nothing like the speed it did on my AM3 with native SATA 3 - does beat the onboard SATA 2 though!)

I'd clean the stuff after finding out what is faulty... mate! But I guess you just love your sprays and wipes... and btw the 3770 can easily handle a 980ti or 1070 in my humble opinion...

I wept when you did away with the Antec PSU and instead used the one without sleeved cables. An absolute *SIN* in cases with side windows imo 😭
Love how the 3770 is still such a good CPU for games though!

I don't know what the problem with the ram on that G1.Sniper was... I had a G1.Sniper running two different kits of Corsair Vengeance (LP and Pro) and it worked fine. Maybe the bios is to blame?

I'm going to make a guess that the front IO is preventing boot.
Same thing happened to me, had a friend just give me his PC cause it was borked.
Unplugged front IO, booted right up.

    Try Forcing backup BIOS
    1. Shut your PC down (if you're reading this guide, than your PC isn't working anyways)
    2. Hold the power button until the PC starts and shuts down again
    3. Press the power button again, your backup BIOS should kick in now and should re-flash the main BIOS if there's anything wrong with it.

question why dont you use car dashboard cleaner instead of wd-40? the result is as good as wd40 and smells nice, i use a silicon based one and it works also the can is double the size for half the price wich makes it 4x cheaper

vaporized salt water would end up as normal distilled water with no salt, not trying to correct but I mean I've lived within miles of the Gulf of Mexico for 15 years, I was under the impression being so close to a large body of saltwater would encourage rust but that doesn't seem to be the case. The area doesn't get snow so the roads are not salted in winter just the Gulf of Mexico itself and rust was ironically extremely rare on vehicles or most anything. The case and screws could just be cheaply made and the electric/magnetic field created by the pc might have caused moisture and other partials in the air to attach themselves to the case. Kinda like reverse electrolysis.
What gets me is the rear exhaust where the fan motor is there is no rust.. if it was just the case material the rust should have spread behind the fans motor as well..
