When I bought mine in the early 80s, the package direction said it was for signing oil paintings. I've used it for tons of art projects over the years but never signed an oil painting with it.
I always saw a similar item for pisanki/pysanky eggs But I can also say I’ve seen oil painters in school with these and it’s nice to use to sign so you don’t smudge the oil Never saw it in action though Just asked “why do you have pisanki tools?”
@@BrianTrainor-h5xthey were just saying, since some people might not know. It was probably meant in a lighthearted way, there was no need to say 'ya we're not stupid' ☠️.
There’s a tool we use for touching up paints here at our Bodyshop. I have a strong feeling this isn’t for lettering.. there is also an exact tool for filling enamel declarations.
I've been using writers like this for 40 years. The ones I use are for decorating Easter eggs. The fill is wax and it gets heated over a candle. The melted wax covers whatever color you want to keep and then you dip and wax the next part of your design. When finished, you scrape the egg and shine/seal it with the scrapings. Or you can use crayons and leave the colored wax on the egg.
Flat head pen changing width with angles of movement sounds way more appealing, if I have to micromanage open ink let me write in gothic font to outweigh the extra effort.
@@Dolrittoyou're looking for a broad edge nib, but if you don't want to dip all the time check out the pilot parallel pens. Also the paper you use is almost as important as the pen and ink used. Also also we call them scripts or hands, fonts and types are for printing

we also have pen like that in Indonesia, it's called canthing, it's a pen for painting "Kain Batik", and it use special ink called "Malam (Malam batik/Lilin batik)" which made from beeswax and it's also obtained from plant excretions, in the form of rosin or pine 🫢

Canting from Indonesia. Canting : A wooden tool with copper bowl and tip used to apply wax onto textile. Wax : A material used in batik canting process.
If I'm not mistaken, I think this writing tool originates from 10th century kingdoms of south east asia. Originally made of wood and brass. It is called canting and used to make batik tulis.
the tool is used in creating Batik, which is a traditional indonesian pattern on fabric. the tool would be called a canting with hot wax inside slowly being poured on a piece of fabric to create Batik. the result used to just be black and browns, but more modern materials and techniques let's us have clothes in those patterns with a whole lotta colors. clothes with those patterns are kinda seen as formal wear and now not many kids wear them unless if they have to.
If I had that, I would try to draw a picture of batik clothes in Indonesia 😌😔 A pen isn't just for writing, it can also make art on clothes more beautiful. In the country I mentioned earlier, I've been wanting to practice drawing since yesterday.

what is on the tip that is stopping the ink from just leaking out when lifted off the paper? Looks like its just an open tube but there must be something like a ballpoint in there or something, but it puts out way too much ink to actually be a ballpoint
@@RemedyKaplan do you mean surface tension? Capillary action is when something *moves* (usually upward against gravity) without a force helping it just because the space is so narrow, so that wouldnt really account for what is *stopping* it from moving. But yea surface tension is related and I guess could be the only thing 'plugging' the hole
@@SpydersByte No, capillary action relies on not only cohesive but also adhesive properties as well. Those adhesive properties are what allows the ink to stick to the sides of the narrow tube. Capillary action isn't necessarily against gravity either it just describes the way water or other fluids act in narrow tubes.
I signed oil portraits with it when I was young and still painting. I had to experiment to find the right ratio of paint to solvent but loved the way it looked. But can you show the back after it will got dry ,
This is also used for Pisanki - melted wax is added instead of ink then you draw designs on eggs, dipping in colouring before moving to the next layer
Funny
That’s what I commented!
That seems smarter! This seems like it would take forever to dry and waste ink!
I thought it looked like something you'd use for batik. same thing really eggs or material wax doesn't care.
Thank you! I was going to ask. ❤

Maybe dot the i with a small circle instead of a spherical drop to reduce ink? If the surface tension breaks as it dries, that will make a big mess.
