  • Helping NEW players decide on which weapon is the most difficult to learn.
    AS A REMINDER, this is MY OWN OPINION on the difficulty of each weapon in the game. I know that some people will disagree on what I may say and that's fine but please don't roast me.
    THIS VIDEO IS NOT A GUIDE FOR LEARNING EVERY WEAPON NOR IS IT A GUIDE ABOUT MASTERING THEM. It is video talking about my OWN opinion on the difficulty of learning each weapon, to a POINT, of being able to defeat monsters. Additionally, with the insight of being a NEW player to Monster Hunter World.
    I also chose to NOT discuss some advanced if not veteran mechanics/techniques because I wanted to give NEW players a basic understanding of what they can expect when learning said weapon.
    If you found the video useful or entertaining in some way, please leave a like on this video and subscribe to the channel, thanks.

    TLDR: Please no hate.
    Well this might get me some hate. This is just my opinion and seeing through the eyes of a new player.
    I was also a new player to the Monster Hunter Franchise so I'm just saying it from my experience from learning and playing with each weapon.
    Also there's only so much that I can say within a 15min video, so I might miss out valuable information about a specific weapon.
    Please do not hate me as I'm trying to helping out NEW players, thank you for reading (if you did read this lol)
    UPDATE:
    I did not anticipate how big this video would blow up. Please remember that I'm not trying to hurt anyone here with what I've said about each weapon. Also I did NOT mention any advanced if not veteran techniques because this video is for NEW players and I felt that it was not necessary for them to fully understand the deep mechanics of a weapon. This video is more of an basic understanding of a weapon to defeat monsters.
    Either way, all of these weapons are great and fun to use. I would love to hear your list of easiest to hardiest weapons as well since we are all different.
    Thanks for watching guys, please be kind to others and keep on hunting!
    UPDATE 2:

      I think we all realize this video was not ill intended, however I feel like the information you’ve gotten was from maximum 20 hunts with each weapon (from the clips, I can only say that you haven’t played the weapon enough and understand the mechanics well enough to gauge the difficulty). I think you underestimate the difficulty of most weapons and that’s the backlash. And yes, the 15 minute video makes for over simplified explanations for each weapon which doesn’t help.

    • @ShortD3vil
      @ShortD3vil  3 года назад +1

      Thank you for understanding that this video was not ill intended. The reason why I wanted this video to be oversimplified is so new players will know what they will get themselves into without talking about complex mechanics that might scare them from playing with some weapons. And yes, I might also be underestimating the difficulties of those weapons and as I have said that this is just my opinion, just as you having your own. Either way, thank you for once again understanding that this video is not ill intended.

      @AJDC_5 3 года назад +28

      @@cestlezooicimw That still goes into the difficulty of the weapon though. It's still true only for some weapons. For example the GS requires a deep understanding of the monsters movement and moveset, its a commitment to go for the True Charged Slash while the monster is moving about and if you miss it is a waste. That is not a thing in all weapons. If the monster moves with the lance for instance you might miss a poke or two instead of your big damage dealer. But in all honesty it's true for every weapon. Capcom have been developing these same weapons (with a few additions) for nearly 10 years at this point. Adding new mechanics and moves and overall polishing them, so it's not unreasonable to say that every weapon has an insane amount of depth. Switch Axe main reporting in. I would definitely say the hardest thing to learn (and this applies to pretty much all of the slower weapons) is to learn how big of an opening you have. Axe mode is slow and sword mode is even slower, so being able to learn how far into a combo you can go can be tricky for people who are used to the faster weapons that can dish out move after move. Sometimes all you can do is stab into overhead slash and you have to be okay with that. However, when the monster in knocked down being able to wild morph into a sword mode combo that fully charges your phial feels INCREDIBLY satisfying and not super hard to figure out. There is some management involved, but there’s definitely a flow to it. Prioritize charging your sword mode phials, activate power axe when you need to switch back to axe mode, and repeat. And most importantly.....DON’T EVER RELOAD.

    • @junky2fk
      @junky2fk 3 года назад +15

      Also as a SA main, I disagree with the “don’t reload” notion. True, you don’t want to be caught in the middle of a Monster attack trying to reload your phial. BUT reloading does come in handy when you are at a good resting point or when you don’t have monster aggro. I usually reload whenever I find myself needing to get an extra ZSD in before my Ampied Sword Mode finish up and I don’t have enough time to switch back to Axe mode to recharge a completely used up phial. It’s a last resort move and it helps with increasing DPS if you like using ZSD.

    • @yetijunior
      @yetijunior 3 года назад +6

      S T That’s definitely a valid point. In that situation you can always try to clutch claw into ZSD since it doesn’t matter if your axe gauge is charged or not. Granted you do need to have your sword mode charged up, but it’s a great way to burn off the end of a phial charge with some good dps. Now being able to stay clutched is a whole other story lol.

    I think it's important to make a distinction between skill floor (how difficult it is to pick up a weapon and start doing okay with it), and skill ceiling (how hard it is to master the weapon). From this video I get that you were talking about skill floor as it's for new players but the terminology might help if you want to discuss the topic further. There are also different types of difficulty, mechanics for example, is how hard things like combos and gameplay are. The bow guns have super easy mechanics but the difficulty comes from learning how to build for the weapons, and which ammo types are effective on what monsters.

    • @ShortD3vil

      Yes there is a lot of mechanics involved with each weapon and it would help to discuss the topic further. However, I didn't want this video to be discussing those topics as I would be moving away from the main topic of this video. @@SubjectE57 I came to the comments section for this comment. doing a segment about this being a "barrier to entry" evaluation at the beginning would probably help to clarify your discussion.
      As Zimmy said, Bowguns have a rather confusing set of ammo stats, but there are half a dozen guides about any style/ammo you want to play, so the community has almost eliminated any difficulty in getting set up. after you have your build they are basically just point-and-shoot with a quick stick flick when you get low on ammo.
      Personally I find the micro-management weapons the most difficult (SA, CB) as you are constantly juggling weapon states and charge levels.
      As mentioned elsewhere, GS is a great example of a weapon that has a really low barrier to entry (skill floor) and a CRAZY high potential output (skill ceiling); its one of the top 3 weapons in speed runs for this reason.

    As someone with roughly 400+ hours on HH, I can say that it is a difficult weapon because not only do you need to think about your combos to efficiently string together the proper melodies, when to unleash the buffs and their uptimes, your positioning because you are a blunt type weapon so face is the place but also which horn do you bring to an encounter. Do you focus on raw damage and play it as a weapon or do you consider the buffs a horn has on it because it’s gonna help the team the most. As a friend of mine once put it “A good hunting horn player may not get high DPS, but with their buffs, everyone else more than compensates for it.”

    I'd say the simplicity of SnS is always a little deceptive. Like, with Longsword you might play poorly and even know that you are playing poorly and still get a somewhat acceptable result.
    With SnS you can feel like you've been doing alright and then you realize that the hunt has been going on for 25 minutes and the monster isn't even limping. The issue really is that it doesn't give you much direct feedback and it's very easy to stay alive, leading many players to think that it's just underpowered and moving on to other weapons which is why you see so few SnS mains.
    It's easy to learn, but even easier to get the misconception that it has a low skill ceiling and is not worth mastering which is why it annoys me that Capcom and parts of the playerbase keep on perpetuating the myth that it's a good beginners weapon. It isn't because it doesn't tell you when you are making mistakes.

      As a SnS main, I agree with you in that SnS is easy to pick up, therefore it's suitable for people new to the game. I mean it allows you to stay alive and enable you to do damage. However, it will not feel powerful until you've gotten to the end game. And if you've stuck with SnS until the end game, you'll likely have become somewhat decent with it. I think perhaps very few people stick with it until the end where they have fully awakened and augment Safi SnS with max out cirt eye, boost, WE, atk boost, and agitator.

      SnS main, and gotta agree. The weapon requires you to be a weird kind of defensive aggressive, where you are a dodge/block demon but always in their face. You also have to learn timing and movement, but is able to unload a flurry of hits if you can time it all out.
      I do have one caveat, and that is how the end monsters of these updates make SnS less viable with their sheer health pools. Alatreon has thousands of hit points in solo, and you are against a timer to do enough damage. Definitely where the weapon type feels like it falls off.

But applying the bug into the fight is a must for the extra damage and with the slinger ammo you can buff the kinsects stamina. Also IG can avoid most attacks because it is the ONLY weapon that can jump with a significant distance but you can’t get carried away with your aerial attack barrages since attacks with full body hit boxes mess you up but I think that part applies to most weapons, just don’t get greedy. LS: Started off as LS when game first came out. Only time I did that one jump attack (Helmbreaker I think) was on complete accident. After completing main story I went on to HBG.
    HBG: I never went to the cluster bomb meta (tried them once along wiht sticky, spread, pierce, and wyvern, hated them all) and stayed with Chrome Assault II since it had wyvernheart.
    LBG: My friend also was HBG but SWITCHed to the AXE. I decided to stay hbg, but my friend told me it was a trash weapon (only using normal ammo 3, I agree) so I went to LBG. I picked up Empress “Ruin” for the hasten regen and I liked it more than the “Styx” because while it would’ve freed me from wearing 3 pieces of xeno, I didn’t like its ammo options and went ruin (even though I never noticed any regen lol). At this point I moved on to a “do everything solo” mineset and my friend was like “LBG sucks.” So I went back to LS.
    LS (the trash sequel): I failed, and hated LS. Wasn’t for me.
    DB: Only one month ago, and I still hadn’t gotten Iceborne. I decided to try my dad’s weapon, Dual Blades. I had an amazing time and still use it to this da. Got Iceborne 2 weeks ago, and DB held up well. Am about to do defense of seliana and can’t wait for Fatalis (even though I’m no veteran)
    CB: I decided to branch out and tried the only Kjarr weapon I got from a kulve seige, Charge Blade. It was so much slower, and so hard to use, but I enjoyed it. With school though I haven’t been able to try it much. I am going to start grinding up mats to get some CBs and start 2nd maining it. (DB still my main). The trick is to get into different mindset for different weapons - the difficulty lies in the adaptability of the individual hunter to think and plan reaction-based tactics against knowledge of monster behaviors. Some people think Tigrex and Nargacuga are impossible to beat with the lance, for example, because with the lance you feel planted in place; but once enough hunting is done with the weapon and the correct decorations/skills/mindset is applied, both are easily toppled (monsters like the two mentioned above have large telegraphed attacks that can be punished using the Claw Counter, BUT significant investment is necessary into skills like Guard and Constitution, and of course Weakness Exploit are all great ways to make the best of it).

    My suggestion to any newer players is to try to become a Jack of All Trades between weapons. There are some weapons that are just better suited to some monsters than others and its also good to switch up your play style to keep things from getting stale. My personal 3 favorite weapons are the Lance, the Charge Blade, and the Heavy Bowgun. But sometimes I swap to another weapon for fun. I'm the only one in my hunting groups that is willing to even touch the Hunting Horn.

    Idk if we can say that here but...
    I can use the GS,HH,SnS,L,HBG somewhat decently. (If not mediocre at best)
    So a thought about them:
    GS - Study, Predict and Strike. All tails shall be yours. And all true charges will connect.
    HH - Once you're able to pull out any buffs without looking at the sheet, you're basically using a better hammer.
    SnS - Slice and dice, but also bash and smash. Your slinger and grappling hook are your best friends.
    L - Block and Retaliate with deadly well placed pokes of a stick.
    HBG - "It costs 400 000$ to fire this weapon, for 12 seconds..."
    Well, also use other ammo types at the right time and gather stuff.
    Those were my opinion of these weapons.
    LS,GL,DB,IG,SA don't stick well with me.
    CB,H do stick but barely.

    The longsword is quite easy to learn, but to use it to its fullest potential is still quite challenging. It took me like 100 hours to actually be able to pull off foresight slashes consistently. For most of the base game I would completely botch the foresight slash and just get clobbered. But after about 140 hours I started to master the weapon and now I can get foresights consistently every single hunt. It’s very fun and rewarding getting perfect counters, filling the gauge and doing helm breakers. It is incredibly versatile and doesn’t do the most damage but it still holds its own for sure, foresight slash is your bread and butter and learning to use that will make you a much better hunter but it was difficult for me to time it at first. As a passionate switch axe player, I think that its fairly difficult to master. There are a few things that need to be understood to optimize your approach: 1. How to manage your amped state and sword gaige efficiently, 2. Understand the monsters pattern well enough to know when you can safely go in and out of sword mode, 3. Be aware of the fact that more often than not HOPS are your only defensive option and 4. Be cautious of its very tempting long animation attacks. Switch axe has some loooong animations. However, ZSD is pretty viable and consistent whenever you have mantle uptime, this can definitely help to keep the pressure up. Except against AT velkhana. You will feel 4 monster attack later or so. now you can use the lance and do nothing impactful like you showed and get results but mastering need skill eg know which of your 6 counters to use in a split second and how it will affect you. or know can I K.O this monster on my own with the lance. The way you described the lance is like using charge blade with out axe mode or AED and no file charging, or hunting horn with no music. And the lance gang is okay with that, we are simple folk with simple needs... And that need is to poke things with a pointy stick

    One thing thats missing about the bow is stamina management. It is not mandatory to know but using the right combos and such is making you feel very good.

      @@ShortD3vil Yes... yes you have. The only ones I don't really agree with though are Bow (stamina management, increased dmg taken, as well as needing to shoot the right parts of the monster) and Charge Blade (guardpoints)
      As someone who used to main Dual Blades for the last 6 or 7 years, I agree it's easy af.

    Honestly, HH and IG are hardest imo. IG is hard because you need to nurture kinsect, and each kinsect can have a different dust and damage type. Along with that, you also need to learn where on each monster gives the buffs you want.

      and had lots of moves arial and ground attack and complicated kindect charge buff

    • @xellanchaos5386
      @xellanchaos5386 2 года назад

      Just aim and send Kinsects to gather Extract at head, leg/wing, and body, (recalling each time,) and boom, you're fully buffed. Then have fun with vaults, (preferably triangle if they're below you, circle into triangle if you need to get over to them,) and when on the ground after staggering the monster, triangle twice, then circle, then repeat until it gets back up. At that point, double circle, (Tornado Slash,) and go back to vaulting for the mount again.
      Rarely have to even use your Kinsect. I mainly only use it for the buffs so far.

    The switch Axe, if you stay in Axe mode, it's an extremely easy weapon to use, thanks to its simple moveset. When I did base game, I barely used Sword mode for 3/4th of the game simply because I found it clunky. Like Axe mode still packs a punch, even with lower DPS than Sword.
    And also the new moves with the Iceborne DLC makes it even better.

    I loved the style of this video and how chill it is ☺️ one thing I'd say tho is that I play hunting horn and a few others and I'd definitely say that hunting horn isn't as hard as it seems! Now charge blade is just insanely hard for me to learn 😂

    Lance main here. Just a few things to add to anyone thinking of picking up lance...because it does have some additional pros and cons.
    Some advantages are lance has good range and fairly precise strikes. Lance can also reach the fastest straight movement speed via it's charge. Lance boasts great defense and high uptime through positioning (leading to some fairly decent dps), lance also does quite well in breaking parts off a monster.
    Some disadvantages are 3 at a time. A lance can only combo 3 hits at a time which limits the dps some (exempting the multi strike nature of the charge), the slowest sheath time, low dph (damage per hit.), learning counter and superguard, as counter can put you on the receiving end if used against multi hit attacks and superguard eats stamina fast. You also need to know which attacks are blockable too, as this means the lance must do its slow sheath to retreat (or to heal/use items/use slinger). It also eats through sharpness somewhat fast, so you do need to see breaks and openings to sharpen your weapon.
    For anyone newer to the game or lance, aside from what information the content creator provided, I want to add this information with me trying my best to be non biased about my main weapon.
    Naturally, there are certain things down the line that make lance and every weapon easier as you advance the story, so I won't spoil that for anyone new. I just hope this helps anyone thinking of maining lance.
    Note: It's 4 a.m. here and I'm somewhat sleepy so forgive my grammar.

    Can definitely agree with HH's placement, took me a month to comfortably say I could play it effectively, and now I solo the HH so it was worth the time lol.
    The only placement I disagree with is LS (and maybe IG). The barrier to entry is quite low I would say, the weapon easily clicked with me back in my first MH game. And judging by its popularity, new players felt the same.
    Cool vid man, will definitely be helpful for introducing the game to new hunters!

    Good, clean, well made content. Liked it, and I’m commenting for the algorithm, but I do have to disagree with a few of your ratings, namely Bow. On the surface Bow is pretty easy to pick up, but if you want to not run out of stamina, not get hit by everything, and just in general do optimal damage it’s going to take a bit more practice. But that’s also just my personal opinion.

    For me, ive used every weapon except HH, IG, or SA, but from easiest to hardest except those 3:
    Greatsword (Main)
    Lance(First weapon picked)
    Hammer(dont use as often)
    Dual blades(little to no use)
    Light Bowgun(Use often)
    Heavy Bowgun(Use often)
    Bow(little to no uses)
    Gunlance(Am very rusty with)
    SnS(Use frequently)
    LS(trying to learn)
    Chargeblade(Use very Frequently)

    For Bow if u are okay with small damage number yeah its easy to use, but if you focus on DPS its a damn hard to use, always gotta keep an eye to stamina bar while facing the monster in close range and its attack pattern

    • @pierce3195
      @pierce3195 3 года назад

      and if you're meant to really DPS as a Bow, the challenge of managing that stamina for evasion and attacking comes as the challenge as Bow hunters would tend to be really soft on the defense
      It's also demanding with specific-use decos

    I like your videos. Cool. Calm. Collective. I would like to say I mastered greatsword as I have just about 2,000 hours just using that one weapon. Decided to try another weapon and chose gun lance. Now about 100 hours in with that bad boy I love it. However I actually found learning a more defensive weapon has actually made me a better great sword user. Incredible. The real endgame is mastering all weapons and using them situationally. All weapons are just as good as the others. But if you you learn them all you will find yourself choosing the tool for the job. Incredible. That’s just an assumption as I’ve only spent time with two however that’s what I’m starting to think.

    Came here for general weapon info, never played a MH game before. Got World a few days ago. I tried dual blades and sword/shield then moved to Charged Blade. Been having ups and downs with it. Had a really nice fight earlier where I chopped off a tail and got a really nice combo that sent the bad boy limping away. Thanks for your insight to the weapons.
    Edit: Not using that Defender / Guardian stuff. I felt like something was wrong with how good it was and learned it was catch up mechanic. I dont need to catch up hehe.

    This is my first MH game and I HAD to pick it since it seemed like the only weapon that had actual difficulty, and I was not dissapointed.
    And to add more headaches to it, I used it as it is meant to be, a support weapon. Have the song second count, their order, make sure your teammates are buffed, check their status, keep them alive, be the wallbanger, softening the monster, (for the gunners), check the monster's location, your positioning, the others, and let's not forget that you need to be doing damage, cuz you must not be on a corner dooting the slinger pod in the wall...and some other things are what made me fall in love with it.
    Obviously I learned later that the other weapons have their own difficulty and level of mastery such as IG or CB, so I am neutral with this.
    But the amount of headaches and tasks I perform in my playstyle with HH is just...wonderful.
