Bernie was so unpredictable even for a genius like Bootsy , he was a volcano able to spit the hottests licks in the funky business and no Clavinet will ever scream again like that ... RIP Mr Worrell !
Man...this is PRICELESS! This kind of footage shows the importance of practice & rehearsal......i rehearsed with Slave in dayton Ohio 5 days a week and the weekends off unless we had a gig! These are the most important elements of FUNK coming together...the companionship and true LOVE of the music we create. Thank you BOOTSY and the RUBBER BAND FOREVER!!@
Saw these guys in 95 and bootsy walked into the crowd and to me and my friends and he danced with us, singing we don't need security he had his hand on my shoulder so to be touched by the bassmaster is an honour man.
It's easy to forget with the stage presentation just how intelligent these guys are. They are casually spouting music theory, working through understandings, communicating with complete professionalism, and yet they are having fun at every level. Even when they are joking around, the joke is shared, work does not stop, and yet the joy everyone is experiencing is celebrated. Far cry from the kindergarten classrooms of the stereotypical rehearsal. Gotta admire the talent, wisdom, work ethic, and depth these men show here. After all, it's far easier to have fun in performance if they are having this much fun in rehearsal.
Then Interviewer to friend: "See !...Told you man".. I used to play that song when driving my my daughter to school when she was very little and ask if she was a superstar and she would give me the " twinkle..twinkle" response. Now she is 28 and still sometimes listens to Bootsy. She is still my superstar...eventhough she just recently moved back home ( temporarily I hope)...lol
Bernie Worrell in this video is one of those intimidating funk player who uses his clavinet like a sharp knife and can play circles around you. Incredible. Didn't know he was this scary.
Hardly any drums anywhere, and still as funky as a muff!!! Like Deelite sang, groove is most certainly in the heart. Much respect to the house of P-Funk...
That boot was made for funkin Bernie is probably the most unappreciated keyboardist of all time when he plays tou can hear the gospel come soaring thru it's all about that Trombipulation well funk on baby bubba PEACE🤟
This funk by the bucket loads. Also to all bass players listen to how BOOTSY keeps time. There are no drums or drum machine playing. And that keyboard is awesome!
"Yep" ! Just keep it on the one. I'am from Ohio, living in Orlando,Fl. Moved here in 1993. I'am a musician. I play in various churches, but i definetly keep it on the one. It works every time. When the drummer is on the one, look out. Here it comes. Heavy funk. I can't help it. Love it. Still works, in 2018, and always will.
Surrounded by good musicians and the groove is tight, this will be a good set. Then Bernie reminds Bootsy how deep the funk was back in the P Funk days; Bootsy smiles.
Que agradable ver y escuchar a estos genios del Funk, como al Sr Collins y al Sr Worrell (R.I.P.). Desde Chile y desde 2023 al pasado, presente y futuro,un viejo Funkateer.☝️🤘
Johnny Guitar Watson's great nephew looks just like a younger version of Bootsy. He's a singer rapper called Poetic Lace on "You Tube" He can Portray a young Bootsy in any life story documentary.
Agreed. He is legend and without him many people don't know that a lot of musical "sounds" and samples wouldn't exist if not for him. Example, Bernie Worrell was the first person to play bass licks on the keyboard..that sneering deep synth bass sound/groove. He was in a band called Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains in the mid 2000's I saw them in Chicago..Bernie scared the audience. He played some weird DEEP bass chord, sounded like one note, but it was a chord and it only lasted about 3-5 seconds, but those 3-5 seconds sent a chill up everyone's spine..scared me and I'm a seasoned Funkateer!
Brilliant music here...thanks for posting this excellent video...its great for musicians to see the detail work of rehearsal....the band working it out is a process that is under-valued in peoples minds...they dont often get to see the cake being made.
+Moody Hyadd Thanks for the info. Everybody, leave this comment at the top. Don't post anything else above it ... unless it's musical notation or something else high level. .
Bootsy is the connection between James Brown and Parliament Funkadelic and Prince through Eric Leeds. Not even sure how many people understand how incredible Bootsy is to modern music
These guys are very strong in 1993.Parliament Funkadelic and EWF were even stronger live in 1973.Musicians in 2020 can learn a lot from the old school about creativity and showmanship.
As much as their stage presence creates a wild out of control party atmosphere, these MEN were and ARE PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS!!! That is one tight sound. There is NOTHING out of control with that sound.👊🏾
Today, I marvel at the thought that when Bernie was @ the keys, most of the synth- sounds he made were nEW to earth! Originator/Innovator RIP Bernie Worrell!
i have heard bootsty parliament funkadelic live 6 TIMES and once in high school we went down to united sound in DET AND SIT IN THE BACK OF THE STUDIO WHILE BOOTSY TRACKED

Bootsie: Well, Twinkle Twinkle, baby!
Blind Whittlin’ Chitlin yeah, bootsie smooth like that. ✌️

4:08 - that look Bootsy gives Bernie after he unleashes a funkilisious lick on his clavinet. Priceless.
That was pretty incredible. I was thinking the same thing ✔🤘🏾👍🏿
At that moment he realizes that there's a space alien in his band...
You could tell boosie and Bernie had so much fun playing together. I'm so glad I saw the Woo warriors before Bernie passed away

Impossible to listen to Bootsy without getting funked up - confirmed.
As Prince would often say......"REAL MUSIC BY REAL MUSICIANS".
IF THIS REHEARSAL CLIP WAS 12 HOURS LONG, I’D WATCH IT TIL THE END!!
RIP All The Members That Passed Recently................
Bernie started putting some hotsauce on those keys...Bootsy had to turn around and give a smile!
I miss Bootsy on stage. One of those stage performers with something extra and with a great band.
Look at the musicianship. Everyone brought their own style and it jelled well together.
Every single depressed person should watch this video again and again - I challenge you to not start grooving after a while of listening to this.
2chains wishes he was as cool as bootsy
Bootsy, your still bad. Funk on brother, funk on.
Considering how private Bootsy is terms of rehearsals, we are very fortunate to have this piece of footage.

William " Bootsy " Collins , The Soul " Professor " of Funk .

One of the most impressive scene I’ve ever seen.
Maestro Bernie.

Will miss Mr. Bernie Worrell dude!! A piece of the funk will always be missing from my heart.
You know, Bootsey should consider some bass effects to make his sound REALLY COOL.....Ha....This man is a bass prophet "with the groove" for the ages.

Incredible to see them practice. Such respect for everyone, quiet, low key, getting their marks, and getting it tight as hell.
