I cried when I first heard this as a kid who grew up playing practically nothing but heartgold this song brought genuine tears of happiness to my eyes and the renewing love for the remastered gen 2 music

Ever since the DS games they went with orchestrated soundtrack for Pokemon games, but frankly these sound generic and lack variation in instruments (drums, french trumpets) and rhythm, especially the battle music. Back on the Game Boy Color/ Advanced developers were limited on 16/32-bit technology, so they pushed the music and sound effects to the limit of those devices. I thought the HG/SS soundtrack was weak despite loving the game in general.

Silver was a guilty pleasure... On the one hand, I hated beating down on his Pokémon because they were hinted at being victims of his abusive nature. On the other hand, his theme music was fire. 🤣
Frantic, heartfelt, and soulfull enough to match the idea of the rival from this generation... a thief who wants to prove to his estranged father that he can make a name for himself without his father's powerful influence. This just screams "I know I can do whatever I want if I put my soul into it!" Fits the character well!

This sounds like a pure personality vote, but Alain belongs at least in the B-tier. He's Ash's strongest rival in the anime by far thanks to his Elite 4-level Mega Charizard X alongside a Metagross and Tyranitar so his power is S-tier. No he doesn't push Ash to grow, only merely gives him something to look forward to in the League who ends up being his foil. That's not so great, C-D tier. Also, he beat him THREE times! That should average out to at least a B-tier, maybe C tier. He is NOT trash!
