A few months ago, Materia Collective announced their Johto Legends Gold and Silver album and created an incentive to have me do a track on it! Love it when people combine the overworld encounter music themes and the actual music - makes it a more complete experience! Also it looks like the bass was hard to do in this one... or maybe that's just me

To be honest, that is the best song for a rival, it feels you fight with the worst of yourself
Silver was always my favorite rival, especially the backstory with him being Giovanni's son.
Stole a pokemon, earned every badge, helped take down every team rocket member, championed strength above all else, met you at the entrance to the elite four...
Its easy to forget that silver did in fact smack some fat team rocket ass
And if y'all read the manga: he's also the prince of Team Rocket and the son of Giovanni :3

@@Nynja123TRTthat's canon to the games too actually. It's more clear in the Japanese version but there's still a couple things that spell it out. Most notably HGSS Celebi event.
The way the Rival theme was MEANT to sound like....
@Maio nayz It's not the technology. Ever since the DS games they went with orchestrated soundtrack for Pokemon games, but frankly these sound generic and lack variation in instruments (drums, french trumpets) and rhythm, especially the battle music. Back on the Game Boy Color/ Advanced developers were limited on 16/32-bit technology, so they pushed the music and sound effects to the limit of those devices. I thought the HG/SS soundtrack was weak despite loving the game in general.
I backed Johto Legends AND bought a physical copy because you were advertising it and godDAMN it was worth it.
This track is so good, I'm so glad you were able to contribute to the album!! 👌✨

Your covers are simply outstanding; been subbed since 2012 and honestly everytime I listen to them you hit the exact notes as they are heard in video games, like an harmonic tune. Plus adding the energy and passion you put in every cover I simply think you are great man, keep it up!

I cried when I first heard this as a kid who grew up playing practically nothing but heartgold this song brought genuine tears of happiness to my eyes and the renewing love for the remastered gen 2 music

I still miss the badass rivals we got in the old gen games. They actually felt like an actual rival and a friend at the same time/ or in case of Silver a focused and determined rival. But the rivals nowadays are just...too soft
Or theyre bede. They said "you want mean rivals. Well here" and bede just cant measure up to the greatness of the TRUE mean rivals. Hes mean but never a rival. A rival is supposed to help push you to greater heights and vice versa but he litterally wants you to fail so only he can succeed

Thank you, FamilyJules. You brought back memories from when I fought trainer silver from the game god so many memories just float back in. I used to hate him as a kid but I understand he was a misunderstood kid that understood things right and made things right.
Best rival in my opinion, mostly just because he's not friendly with you and its a nice change of pace. His theme being badass helps a lot too.

Frantic, heartfelt, and soulfull enough to match the idea of the rival from this generation... a thief who wants to prove to his estranged father that he can make a name for himself without his father's powerful influence. This just screams "I know I can do whatever I want if I put my soul into it!" Fits the character well!
