I'm going through the top 20 Favorite Video Game Songs of all time as voted on by my community. This came in at number 15!
It is always extremely unnerving to cover a song that's this important to my childhood. I have done this one twice before I think in various medleys but never as it's own arrangement, and it's so awesome to get to pull it off for this top 20 project and let the whole song stand on it's own, because it's truly a masterpiece in my opinion.
Hearing this song was probably one of the first times I fell in love with the sound of guitar and it certainly motivated me to want to study classical guitar when I reached college. This is not by any means a traditional styled flamenco piece, but it is essential to be versed in picado style playing I think to play it correctly. The intro lick is also no joke to play and I took a lot of inspiration this time around from how my friends in Super Guitar Bros play it. Their Ocarina of Time Medley is a must watch by the way if you haven't.
I was extremely lucky to also have ArtificialFear on this as not only is he an incredible guitarist on his own channel, he studied Trumpet in college and was so perfect to fit the only instrument in this song that I can't ever hope to play well. I've known Mat for a long time and have done lots of projects with him over the past 13 years, so please do me and yourself a favor by checking out his channel if you haven't already.

yeah it was bugging what version of Gerudo Valley I'd heard that sounded like this, realized it was Cadence of Hyrule, and went "oh yeah that tracks" lol

I feel like I've just heard this song so much I stopped appreciating how good it is. It's a really good song. The fact its only in 1 game from over 20 years ago and I could still hear it so much I got tired of it speaks volumes about just how great it is.
Holy hell the ending gave me chills, transitioning into the Requiem of Spirit, with the added flair of a tiny bit of Ganondorfs theme from ToTKwas just superb.
Wait when did the Totk Ganon theme play? I heard Requiem of Spirit transition into Hyrule Castle theme

if you havent seen it...Dr. Pez made a YT video thats basically a Prog Rock/Metal Medley of many OOT songs (45 minutes long). It's possibly the greatest "original" cover of any video game music i've seen.
I've seen it, and it is amazing. But as you have said, it is part of a medley (which I do like). In my comment I am talking about a cover that is specifically and only that song. I still appreciate the recommendation tho. @@soocool78

Requiem of the Spirit to Hyrule Castle SNES ending was sick dude
As a child playing OoT on the N64, I usually went to Gerudo Valley for two reasons: Jumping off of the bridge into the river below and this song.

This literally made my day better. I was sitting at my desk bouncing around in my chair while typing like mad. Here, at last, is the fully realized potential of the Gerudo theme. Love that little twinkle at the end. Favorites list, playlist.
There were many times I looked over at my imaginary friend next to me, brows furrowed, head boppin, lips pursed and I whispered "niiiiceee." And then the requiem of spirit at the end got a quiet "hohhhh." So good. As I get through the first of month of my third year of my music major, it's fantastic to me how many things are transferrable between metal rock and "classical." you're so damn good.

I have always loved this song since I first heard it and this cover brings me so much happiness. Absolutely smashed it with the mixing and instruments here and I especially love the short Requiem of Spirit and Ganon bit at the end. Just such a nice little touch you don't here anywhere else :)
I love this SO FREAKING MUCH. Truthfully I was playing American Truck Sim when this came on, and it is some of the best background music I've ever heard for trucking along the desert lol
