- Barry White and his team have always been into recycling big time. They rebuild left-for-dead junkers into stunning showroom Super Muscle.
But this time they're going for broke; full-on, tree-hugging torque with an enviro-friendly '71 Chevrolet Chevelle.
Just how do you build a 'green' hot rod? You need more than a change of color. The plan for this eco-overhaul calls for improved mileage, reduced emissions and non-toxic paint, just for starters.
And to help Barry 'correct' this former gas-guzzling Chevelle, he gets extra muscle from a possie of Prison Guards who know all about Correctional Facilities.
In four weeks they'll need to bring the last of the original oil-thirsty Muscle Cars into the climate-aware 21st Century, in time for Barry's second 'home' auction.
But who wants to buy a 'Hippy Hot Rod'? Paint and Body guy Tony can't think of anyone. But Barry, Jen and Chris think it's the way of the future.

The whole 'WE'RE GOING TO LOSE THE SHOP!!" trope is heavy in this one LOL
Love, love, LOVE the color. And the white stripe scheme worked better than the leaf motif, imho. Tony did good, in spite of his reservations.

LS-1 / 6ltr V8 in a Chevelle! I love it! I had a similar idea for a build, but twin-turbo instead of supercharged (which means less low-end power, but much better fuel economy).

I love how most of you don't realize this show is over w decade old. it was a different time. crazy paint a big stupid wheels were trendy. And the fact they were only making 400hp from a supercharged LS motor is laughable. It's kinda cool looking back on how far we have come
I was wondering how that LS engine was only 300hp. My 17 year old LS430 Lexus is 300hp.

1971 Chevelle SS 454 did not have 450HP, it had like 375HP
The 1970 Chevelle SS 454 had the 450HP motor in it.. actually it put out somewhere between 450-500HP !!
but do to the insurance "crunch" on HotRods, GM booked the 1970 SS Chevelle as 450HP...
I saw this episode aired on the tlc channel. One of my fave episodes.
My favorite color green with the White stripes excellent. Question is did have cup holders and I would have made the lights modern that way it would make it a new facelift!!! I need to take this car and keep it original except for the mirrors and the lights in the front. Make the interior ultra modernized. ⭐⭐⭐ Course I'm a rag top guy this would have been excellent if it was a ragtop!!! 💥

My Chevelle SS is 6.0 LS2 Swap with a fat cam ! Pushing 485hp 500twq no need for a blower but would be nice
One more thing, when you install a late model drivetrain into an early body/chassis and don't have it mocked up first, it tells me all I need to know about the quality of the build

Thars absolutely gorgeous. I had a 71 Malibu that was dark metal flake almost black in the shadows. It was a great first car it makes me sick till this day that l totalled it out. Forty years ago. It to was perfect all original
Looks like a '71 to me, the front parking lights are different on a '72. My parents bought me a rallye green '72 Chevelle Malibu 350 Convertible for high school graduation in '77.

I recently paid 3000 bucks for my 70 Chevelle bodied El Camino and it came with a brand new cowl induction hood. Rust was a little worse than the car in the video but overall not too bad because I can weld in patches.
That's cheap here in the UK that would be more like 10 k atm I'm helping a pal with a ford consul but my dream is to find an impala wagon probably won't happen as I've never seen one in England
60.000 sunk into this thing. $80.000 retrieved from this thing at auction. That's a profit of $20.00. Which that is 3rd of the cost more than what was sunk into it. So that is borderline at the low end of my book. Not Bad.
Plus TV money, and they can use the paint shop refit equipment again.

They do these builds because they real money made is on the show. No one can make big money totally restoring old cars and selling them. There is money restoring for paying customers though. Ask Danny at Counts Kustoms.

water based paint really that fades very easily in the sun
Use the right clear and it won't, they UV block which causes fading.
I am sure the old guy with a limp will buy it for crazy money.lol
How much do the auctions get in commision? I feel like that could completely wipeout the profits on some of these cars

Soda blast is alright, but if you're going to use it for rust, forget about it. It's not happening. It won't even touch light rust. It strips paint pretty well though.
If the auction assistance were not a female, I wonder if that would even hit 65K.

This reminds me of the green parking zones in malls. They're green cos you have to walk a few meters to the mall entrance, so they call it 'environmentally friendly, healthy parking and paint the bays green. Fkn mental really.

you cant weld it with antifreeze in it you have to take it out of car drain it and perge radiator with argon along with aargon on out side

All right now I know this show is fixed... that car is a 71 Chevelle, it has an LS1 motor in it with the supercharger. It's not numbers matching there's no paperwork and while it's a nice car it's a $40,000 car. No car guy is going to pay that kind of money for a 71 Chevelle without some history behind it. it's certainly not some kind of restomod monster with tons of custom work and a $20,000 modern suspension system underneath it with an 800 horsepower drivetrain

72 chevelle Malibu small block 350 blue with a white vinyl top I took the vinyl top off and I pulled it in the shop and started getting it ready to paint and I wanted to take the blue seats and carpet out and put all black in it and paint it mid night blue

Figured it out. Its a 1969 Ford XL. The 1968 and 1970s were slightly different at the lower front fender marker light. Its missing the corner extentions off the front and rear renders. From the side it looks like it was in great shape , even still had the original hub caps.

phoenixkool compared to running a built 454 this car has far reduced emissions and has a catalyst to aid with this. Also uses much less fuel when cruising and driving under normal conditions.
so, the classic muscle car which was super pollutant, is just a tad less presently, got ya!
