This is exactly what I needed. Everytime while working on a project I used to think the lights are too harsh. I used to change the size but it would lower the intensity of the lights. I did used to think what if we had a softbox to diffuse light like in real life in blender 😂
How to hide the plane, if the camera accidentally passes over it, the lamp plane will appear
Thank for help
as a photographer and artist these are fundamental lighting understanding, well done on utilising this!
Omg. I can't believe this channel is real. Simple solutions (with fast tutorials) that make so much difference. Thank you man.
Happy to help!
Can't you get this same effect by increasing the size of the area light? Thats typically what I do. Larger source = softer source. Or is it different?
This would be different, take a look at the keyboard at 00:25 you can see the hard edge of the area light in the reflection of the keyboard case. Then take a look at 2:05 the hard edge has been replaced by a much softer gradient giving it a much softer look overall.
On a technical level he is changing how blender calculates the light by adding that plane.
Bigger light sources have softer shadows because bigger source = more light shooting in the same direction over a large area which helps the light bounce around the object and soften the shadows without affecting reflections.
Adding the translucent plane essentially scatters the light so instead of a bunch of light rays going in the same direction, they go all over the place causing the light to be less focused and softer overall.
Hope that's helpful!
I think it may look kinda similar, but the quality of light differs
@@jonojibway9379 Thank you for the brilliant response!
That's two different method for different purpose. Your method is for producing soft light effect but it lack the texture of the specular. You can watch Area Light Map to understand it clearer.
Different light sources are programmed with different fall off parameters that mimic a source in real life
In comparison to some of your other recent videos, I think this one is really hitting the balance of memes and knowledge. The editing is fun, but there is little on the specific portions of the video where you're actually running through the process - apart from maybe background music. Saving the editing to predominately the transitions helps prevent the main message from getting lost in the noise! Great job!
Thank you honestly
You're just not the targeted audience.
This is great, why in my 25+ years in 3d have I never tried this exact setup? Thanks a million for this tip! 🤘😄🍁🍂🍃
I've been using Blender for a little while now, mostly making silly little still image renders with two Pokémon characters, but I do wanna start digging more into the intricacies of working with Blender and really learn how to make things look good in it. Seems this channel is a pretty good starting point, as, in less than three minutes, I learned about a technique that I now feel stupid for not thinking of sooner, one that would've solved a lot of problems I've had with past projects (if they can really be called that).
Thanks! /gen
The problem with this is this is indirect lighting, and it have a cost. Noise and render time.
You can simply build a procedural node setup for simillar.
Or if render time doesen't matter, leomoon light studio, with real hdr studio lights is perfect. (almoast perfect, i used to add some other hdr-s for ligjt sources)
I also think building a node setup for the lighting is a better solution, and you also gain much more control. But did you actually tested if there is a cost in noise and render time?
ruclips.net/video/C4UM57HAt0E/видео.html
@@itayozari6252 shouldn't couse its direct light, doesen't need more samples for a good result.
I use area lights with procedural gradients and have found it’s more effective than this method. However I do still use this method when I’m looking for a particular quality of light and just take the hit of more noise and slower renders.
exactly very noisy image and render time increase like messive where my render useto take 2 mins after this technich its hitting 14 to 15 mins
damn thats like an actual photography technique cant believe I've never tried that
Eyooooo! Great tip to get some amazing soft lighting. Love the video!
🎉 Thanks man! A nice lil quick tip!
Just incredible.
Very cool tip, thanks for sharing
great tip thank you!!
whoa nice! will try this to my current project! thank you for sharing this!
Nice! No worries
Definitely going to try this with my next render
Let’s gooo!
dope trick!
Wow this video help me so much thank you
You could also create a plane mesh and give it an emissive shader :)
The problem with emission shaders is that they are really noisy, so this technic might be slightly better. I think testing is the best way to answer
@@titouansom i see thanks
Will try this technic too
@@petermorales2342 :)
@@titouansom there are node setup for lights too, and also IES lights, with huge light library.
the best 3d channel! Thank you for video
Thank you for watching!
Dude i love your content they are joyful an not like others boring an
And I really think you should make a video blender curse for beginners it will help us an i sure think it will help your channel to
An sorry im not native English speaker so you will see some misspelling
Would an IES texture for the area light help?
Hello, i would appreciate if you would do a tutorial on greece pencil, thank you !
Would it be more simple and effective to just create an emission shader with an image? What's the technical difference between both methods?
I imagine an emission shader modulated by an image would calculate faster. Whatever I was planning to do today, I'm shoving aside to experiment with this.
...and here I thought large area lights were soft boxes. Now I have to soft box my soft box. The last time I tried that irl she kicked me.
Either way I've never heard you so excited _ever,_ so that's good.
legend
is there any “light catcher” or is there only shadow catcher and i need to composite light reflections from a pass?
The randomly placed memes are gold
Which font did you use on the thumbnail pls?
Yeah this lighting setup is awesome...gotta try it next
Can you please tell how can I make a rigged character move its part (like hand) into a portal , and the hand comes out of another portal a bit far away from the former portal...?
Is that possible?
It is possible, and you would want to use geometry nodes
Lol, so specific
Of course it’s possible, just would take some trial and error with geonodes and other stuff in blender
@@Smeaf lol yeah its specific
Thanks 4 the reply btw
If possible anytime can u pls make a tutorial? I didn't find any on youtube so...yeah..
@@Arghya_10 RUclips wont have your exact creative process, which is why you need to experiment.
I don’t know exactly how to make a perfect portal, but I have an idea of how you can imitate one. Make your character, rig it, then make its animation. Next duplicate it, move it to where you want the portal to exit, then in geometry nodes you will want to make a proximity setup to dissolve the model (you should use an empty), once you have the model dissolving based on proximity, simply reverse it for the duplicated character in relation to its empty. Then make the object you want as your portal, maybe a ring with a plain in it, set up its material, and key frame transparency/transmission nodes with noise nodes so you can have a quick appear and disappear at the specific frames.
This is a very rough idea that I thought of on the spot, sorry if it can’t work.
There are tutorials for making these effects, like iron man’s nano tech suit, and they can look good if you refine it.
So you need to simulate a diffuser manually? Why isn't that function integrated into the lights?
heres one stupid question , what is the empty boxes in the assest for?
The Rigby clip caught me off guard.
This video helped me marginally. Still had to figure out some stuff u did not explain in here. Unless it has changed in blender 3.5.1, this video is outdated.
Hi
I can add a plane, how attach a light source?
I have a problem my renders come out super pixelated? Even when rendering on 4k. What am i doing wrong?
Damn ! You are the master in 2:27 minuts , super Fun fcking powerfull tip , thanks !!! Memes + sound Just top !!!
Thanks Filipe!
Problem with lightning is thath plane is visible in front of camera. How to fix that?
Super entertaining vids man! Could I get the 1:16 soundtrack ?
Lol, it’s the Wii Sports Main menu
i have a difficult to make cools backgrounds to my products, could you help me?
does this work if you hide the plane in renders?
Yessir
So the light and the diffusion plane are in the exact same position in space? Why is the light shining *through* the diffusion if that is the case? Wouldn’t it need to be offset back from the diffusion, even if just an inch?
It is behind the plane but he just not say it (we can see it at 1:27)
Your editing style is just hilarious! Those funny video fragments that you add between cuts.. amazing xD
Brother when your academic will available
It's a large undertaking, and there isn't a set time on it yet, but once I get it closer to completion i'll let you know!
Another Smeaf upload?!?!!!!?!???!!
Absotutely
@@Smeaf The goat of Blender! ( I would say god but that title is reserved for CGMatter)
idky but it didnt work for me
I love your channel so much everyday I learn a new thing about Blender like lighting animation hacks etc ur the best!
Thank you! Glad I can help you out 🔥💪
thanks but the random pulp culture interjections were impossible to ignore so had to leave before 2 minutes were up
This video makes very little sense to me, and I have been studying 3d for years. It doesn't help that like half the video is just meme edits with useless clips.
highly appereciate the editing
Thanks!
jesus whats with all the effects and sounds?!
I understand why you are doing it but i really dislike the clickbait title and over edited videos. It's so off putting for me and I really hope that other blender channels won't follow this trend.
Yeah I feel the contents of the videos aren't nearly as good as he makes them out to be
Yeah it's over edited but I thing the contents are great and the title isn't that bad
I will say he at least gets to the point quickly without trying to draw things out for increased view time.
Lmao god (smeaf) is on my side rn fr because I literally have this problem with most of my renders and rn I’m working on my Demoreel which has a lot of chrome in it and this is literally all I needed to know 😅 thanks mate!
Get that demo reel money my man 💰
Gen z editing 😞 are we cooked?
I don’t think this type of editing really works for a tutorial content. For general theory, when you want to spice up some boring and mundane topic- yes, but when people are trying to follow step by step all the memes are just killing the line of thought. It’s super annoying.
too heavy editing/memes for a tutorial imo
did the job tho
Doesn't that make more noise?
Increase samples and denoise
@@sm71485 yes but you get artefacts and longers render time. Even if it's like 10 seconds, on an animation, it's a lot
@@titouansom then you should go for Eevee. It's very much capable of doing product renders if you know how to use it properly.
Also try using renderfarms.
@@sm71485 yeah I use a lot renderfarms, but even with that, I always try to have te best optimisation for my scenes !
@@sm71485 those are not solutions man :D
It’s not working 😢
While I'm learning from blender, I have this qwasun :Does animation require physics I'm curious coz I love animation?
Depends vastly on the end result you want to achieve. When in doubt, learn both lol
@@bryangrunauer what if you don't study or learn physics and u know animations well?
@@stonealicious_playz7426 well In broad terms, you want physics to simulate natural environments and its effects. So gravity and collisions, rain, dust, oceans, lava etc,, in general give a much better result when calculated by a computer. But to something more specific like a character moving or motion graphics in general you would animate by hand, be it pose to pose or frame by frame.
There's an advanced middle ground in "art directable physics simulations", like the snow in Frozen. It needs to feel realistic but can't be loose and unpredictable like in the real world, so there needs to be a knowledge intersection from both worlds.
@@bryangrunauer well here's the thing, I clearly understand about those without any knowledge of physics.
Well you dont have to study physics much but u need a slight knowledge if you need stimulations in your animations...
Man, I’d actually sit through this without the amount of memes in here. I just want to watch a quick informative video
Your videos are great and very informative but no need for the memes every 15secs 😅
my lighting is fine, thank you haha
Can you please remove unnecessary and irrelevant parts from this video? For example: 0:40, 1:12, 1:31
No
You can just increase the roughness a little and can acheive that same effect....
This is really good and all, but is anyone going to bring up the whack-ass Regular Show interlude for step 2?
I know it was already a video, but it's still fuckin *WEIRD.*
what is bro saying?
Bro your edits 💀
cycles is so much better than eevee
Well yes, at a cost
Depends on your goal.
@@A_Train indeed, I'd argue that for increased render time, cycles is more convenient/intuitive as well as generally more impressive especially for realism.
As a beginner to blender, i am not a fan of how you edit your videos. Really distracting
👍Taught me about softboxes.
👎 Annoying, loud, and nonsensical memes (1:12, 1:31, 1:47), that make me want to dislike your video (though I didn't). Would've also been helpful if you did direct on-off comparisons of the softbox vs regular light.
Please ease up on the fast-paced editing and memes. It's very distracting.
dude you gotta stop editing your videos like this. all the memes make it so hard to watch. just want simple solid tutorials
Shutup
editing is insanely annoying
Your editing choices are distracting 🤔
I came here to learn, but this video and editing choice is so distracting and overwhelming..... Less entertainment, more educating.... please
Does anyone really like the constant interruption with useless cartoons when learning ? Do you see movies, shows, or documentaries doing that ? No. Why not ? Because it is annoying.
Argh. These overlaid clip cuts are horrible and are dating badly. May this style of editing be banished forever as it’s ruining what is some really good content. This has to be embarrassing for the poor guy.
Al posto di fare video con intermezzi di cagate si potrebbe pensare di precisare meglio le cose ed approfondire i passaggi che si perdono per strada
Very good 👍👍👍
