    A battery life related video idea that I'd like to see is: which games would be good when you need certain battery life. If you want to game 2 hrs, 4 hrs, 6 hrs or even ~8 hrs. 2 hrs locks you out of certain AAA games (but which), 4 hrs even more, at 6 hours you're looking at only indies or emulation and at 8 hrs.

    Here’s my secret, I’ve haven’t seen any videos with anyone mentioning that you can lower the resolution before a game launches, check the properties menu and select a lower resolution and check apply to internal and external then FSR is enabled in every game launched.

      @GentlemanBikerVlog Год назад

      That works a charm thank you for that. I've been trying to get FSR to run using the in game resolution settings and they often don't activate FSR and a lot of games don't even let you go below 720p

      What about games that have FSR in the graphics settings? Do you just disable the game scope FSR and enable FSR in the game settings instead?

      Mileage will very with this method. Some games just stop functioning altogether. You can get to the menu, but the display has artifacting and there's no input. And unchecking the box for all displays just makes the resolution go back to default.

    Seriously appreciate the Steam Deck videos you put out.
    Thanks again

    In about half a year someone will make a backplate for the steam Deck with room for a bigger battery. Those geeks are already modding the crap out of the Steam deck. The Question then will be: "Do you want more battery or more cooling?"
    The best part is: Valve can browse the internet to see, what the customers most change on their Hardware and implement it in their next handheld in about 3 years. The variants will then be more of "lightweight", "Huge Battery", "Silent", "external SSD Slot".
    If we are lucky and Gabe holds the Board in check, we will still have the same repairability and be able to customize it ourselves at a later date, to change it to our liking again.

    Some newer games like callisto protocol, is already using a lot of resources at 30FPS, those games are harder to optimize. However, another important detail, i recommend to mess around the TDP settings, sometimes with little less FPS they provide way better battery life by providing just enough energy so it runs at the point we want it to run.

      Yep by limiting frame rates and tdp I can run mot older games(fallout 4, etc) at close to 10 Watts.

    I want my games looking good and running good. I only play at home.. so battery doesn’t matter to me personally. Also I noticed that the longer you game the hotter the deck gets.. hotter gpu and cpu drains the battery. For now we have accept that battery’s are not up to things like these handhelds yet. What i dont get is.. most of my games take around 20 wats anyway.. control on 30 fps medium high settings also.. so 25 for cyberpunk isnt that bad right? Noticed that most triple a games are around 20 watts.

    My steam deck idles at 6.5 watts, I’m sure it used to give an estimate of 12 hours battery life just sitting on the home menu with nothing working. Now I’m lucky to see 6 hours…

    This is the reason why switch games look and run the way they do.

    Hi there have you used the Decky Loader PowerTools plugin to up the TDP settings?
    And how well does it work?

    IM GETTING AROUND 4-5 HRS WITH MY SETTINGS WHICH GOES TO ABOUT 6 IF I REMEMBER TO TURN OFF BLUETOOTH AND WIFI AND BRIGHTNESS JUST AFTER THE LAST S ON THE DIAL PLAYING WILDLANDS AND TALES OF ARISE AT 40FPS AND PUTTING THE DECK AT 9 WATTS ITS AWESOME DON'T BELIEVE ME TRY MY SETTINGS AND REPLY TO THIS POST

    My deck crashes on The Witcher 3 when I set it to 30 FPS, after a few minutes of playing, every single time.

    The lowest I can get mine is 6 watts. That's a watt ish for CPU and GPU. And then whatever else is gobbling up power. Wifi and Bluetooth is off. I use this profile for pcsx2 emulation for person 3 fes. Smt disabled with max CPU clock of 1.6ghz and GPU max clock at 300mhz. Give me 7 and a half hours of batterlife ish. That's also with a 1/3 brightness and sound up a little bit. I did swap in a 512gb ssd vs the stock 64gb. Maybe my ssd uses more power than valves version they use. No idea.

    Can you optimize 5 different games per video? I think that would be a good idea and it would slowly build a directory

    do you change the tdp and gpu clocks or is it default in these videos?

    • @TheTerk
      @TheTerk  Год назад

      Not in this video. Hard setting tdp is a bit brute force in most instances, and clock speed manipulation is a bit finicky for a broad recommendation. I do use both in my Cyberpunk optimization video, since it's specific settings for a specific game
