Veliki pozdrav i naklon Majstoru Zokiju!!!! Drago mi je što mogu bar ovako preko neta da vas sretnem i privilegija je bilo biti vaš učenik 6 sjajnih godina.Hvala vam na svemu! well its hard to find ppl who use it to fight practically. but I know a black belt police officer that comes to my dojo and says that they definitely teach aikido in LAPD academy, they just dont wanna give it one name cus they add strikes too.
Difference is that I never claimed any martial art skill, while these guys do. This type of demo is as "real" as acting is in movies, and if it impresses you then there is nothing more to say.
Very cool. The only thing that caught my fake radar is when he keeps stepping forward when someone grabs his shoulder. very bad idea especially when the guys is heavier and stronger.
Actually, the majority of fights are currently won with strikes (knockout, or ref/tap/doc stoppage), followed by submissions from either compression chokes or joint locks. You may not be interested in fights, but don't you train to be able to defend yourself if you had to? I would have thought that the best way to test your ability would be against fully-resisting opponents, not complying ukes. And there are no bounds to mixed martial arts either, just when it is used in sport fighting.
I made the same observation. I'm curious though, I thought Iwama Ryu and Takemusu Aiki were different styles, one from Saito Sensei and one from Tomita Senseis interpretations of O'Senseis teachings, is this not so?
I don't disagree that people couldn't make these look good without great Uke, but if they weren't good uke they'd also have they're arm broken... ever seen a shoulder dislocated b/c of good kotogeshi? I have
You think that this demo could have been done without the "Ukes who make all these moves possible"? You don't think that this "Looks great - very fluid and well performed"??? Let's hear why you disagree with my comments...
Works, just like jujitsu or karate works, it is used when the opening is right for the technique. I agree these are some pretty weak attacks, but it does work... and usually you don't go up against "trained" fighters, more like bar brawlers, and drunkards.
I agree that Aikido could work on untrained noobs who have no idea what they are doing. I would also agree that Aikido has some great body movement training. Where I have a problem is when people think that Aikido is effective against other trained fighters who are ready to fight. If I am wrong, let's see it...
It happened when he was young, got his ass kicked in a bar, early nineties, I can't find the article right now. 3 times is probably an over exateration but my point is the whole idea of mma you keep bringing up is flawed, we're talking about something that is a singular art from, so that argument is off topic
Martial application is that. The art is derived from techniques that are designed for killing Heavily armoured samurai. Sure all of the lethality has been taken out of it, and allot of the real nasty stuff has been taken out. Then again- it does not take a 9th Dan MMA master to put them back in....
I think we can all agree that it's not about the art but about A)the person, B)the training methods. And the majority can agree that the current training methods of many Aikido dojos are seriously faulty. I do not doubt O'Sensei was formidable in his younger days (and by younger, I mean pre-60, hehe). After that, I simply don't understand the man. He largely stops teaching. When he does happen to appear on the tatami, he lectures about cosmic harmony and other esoteric stuff.
i would like to know what are the differences between traditional and real aikido. why real aikido is more effective? does that mean the real aikido already better than the idea of O sensei? i believe even the traditional aikido can be harmful used by high rank practitioner. i guess O sensei just want to hide the dangerous parts. No problem to use aikido to kill or hurt someone by just changing the basic idea of the normal practice.
A) you just said noobs, stop gaming and show me some real life knowledge, B) If you're looking for some evidence send me a message and I'll send you some links
I'm sure it all made sense, but he really forgot to explain it all to anyone. He forgot to make sure to pass on his experience on how to train. For the most part, the Aikido we see today is descended from people who were hardly taught by O'Sensei. Maybe this is why so much of Aikido sucks (excuse me). People like Saotome Sensei and Pranin Sensei openly point out that Aikido is losing that...certain umph that made the bigshots of the Japanese martial world acknowledge O'Sensei.
That's what I thought... another iffy claim that can't be backed up. Back on topic, the fact remains that while not perfect, MMA sport fighting is a MUCH better way to test your martial art ability then the non-resisting, complying uke techniques of Aikido.
Keep in mind what those attacks are supposed to simulate. Deflecting punches and kicks are basic enough. Those big ugly karate chops you see so often represent someone swinging a sword at you... or a bat if you prefer. I dabble in SCA type combat for fun, and those techniques that look so ugly are VERY effective when someone's swinging pipe at you. Yes... TKD hits harder... Aikido is the way of universal harmony, designed to escape conflict without "kicking real hard."
Sure, fall correctly to protect yourself - but how about the way the ukes are attacking? Not with any real intent or skill - more reaching and grabbing - no real strikes or takedown technique. Aikido might be great against this type of lame attack, but against a trained fighter?
@danfusavig What the hell makes it "not" aikido?!?!?! This IS aikido...it's just not YOUR aikido. Learn some humility and respect. Also learn to think outside of the box.
Please tell me this is sarcasm? please? You claim loyalty to a Chinese art, yet name yourself after a Japanime character? ... with ... THAT poor of grammar/spelling? Aikido has valuable lessons, as does tkd, wing chun, and the show Ruroni Kenshin... but I agree, shotokan sux. ... eherm.

The real "masters" of Aikido are the Ukes who make all these moves possible... Looks great - very fluid and well performed - just like in the WWE
well its hard to find ppl who use it to fight practically. but I know a black belt police officer that comes to my dojo and says that they definitely teach aikido in LAPD academy, they just dont wanna give it one name cus they add strikes too.

the "attacker" isn't evn pretending to throw a punch. he's just running at the guy with his hands down.
Very cool. The only thing that caught my fake radar is when he keeps stepping forward when someone grabs his shoulder. very bad idea especially when the guys is heavier and stronger.
its funny how he always makes sure to press the shoulder until the students taps out haha
I'm a policeman,,,it works to great effect

The nage almost look's clumsy, with his spinning around, but aikido aint something until u seen it irl.
this is realni aikido, there is big difference...
In every single sequence, you can see how the attacker and defender are working together--not against eahc other. How is that "real?"
"Real Aikido"? What do you mean?
You think that this demo could have been done without the "Ukes who make all these moves possible"?

THIS IS NOT AIKIDO!!!

This is much better than usual aikido nonsense. But it's still almost no good
Tell Mike Tyson that, he's gotten his face beaten in... what 3 times in bar fights?
That's what I thought... another iffy claim that can't be backed up. Back on topic, the fact remains that while not perfect, MMA sport fighting is a MUCH better way to test your martial art ability then the non-resisting, complying uke techniques of Aikido.
ça ressemble a tout sauf a de l'aikido,d'ailleurs pourquoi appeler ça le "real aikido"?
