I like your way to show the games, letting people guess the moves, joking from time to time, quick and well explained. I used to play long time ago and you are making me playing chess again. thank you Mato.
I feel that Mato should have much more subscribers that he currently does. I've watch commentators from other channels and they just seemed too long winded and not to the point. Mato's videos seems to be just right. Analyzing different variations at the most crucial points of the game and I love it when he says, " we have reached the critical position of the game"
Your accent is probably the best one for lecturing chess. Makes it more exciting in a way, and builds up the suspense. And in mixture with the actual content of the video it makes up for a very good cake to eat (for your brain of course)
Very good work, Mato! Many thanks for you effort. Funny observation: I have accidentally clicked "Transcript" icon (under view statistics) and it made my day.
I heard about a kid at the junior championships, tormenting opponent be capturing everything and collecting queens. "Like a draw?" he teased. "Yeah!" Head nods up and down. "Well you can't have one!" "Game drawn," observed an observant arbiter.
I tried finding but I noticed most of the videos, especially Fisher with White pieces. I would also like to see how he played with black. Thank again!!
I saw a double sac, but based it only on the craziness of your videos. How do you know when to spend time calculating past a double sac in a real game? It just didn't feel like he had enough pieces to mate after that.
I wonder how far ahead Karjakin could see when he sacrificed his knight and bishop to draw out the king. It reminds me of some of the Tal games Mato has shown us.
I was watching this with the volume off, thinking about NxG7 since it would feel right to me in blitz, then he actually played NxG7 in the video and I thought wtf? I thought the next move was pawn to f4 or something, I didn't expect the bishop sacrifice. Really nice game this one I enoyed it thanks.
Karjakin well and deeply understood that his 2 Officer's sacrifice was just in time hence Black's Rook & Bishop were out of active counterplay. Outstanding attack and primed for the history books. Ayye.
Hi Mato- Thanks for your video of this Scotch Steinitz variation. It is a truly awesome game by Karjakin (how old was he when he played this? 13,14,15?). This is a seminal game not only in attacking the castled king but also in playing against Qh4 Steinitz Scotch. There are other lines in the Scotch Steinitz and while it looks good for White he better beware of traps like this! Noone ever risked playing this Steinitz variation against the modern master of the Scotch, Gary Kasparov. Again thanks for your video analysis of one of my all time favourite games (I like playing the Scotch!). Best wishes :-)
Jonah Klein if the queen was lost at that time then for checkmate 2 moves would have been reduced, but i also agree with yu because these GM's like to play in such complications.
+Vineet Shilpa I would not like to play a GM, down that much material and with less chances at mating threats. The threat of mate is far more powerful and pinning the queen allows for other options. rf6 was best.
Does white bishop to e2 at 5:32 work? It seems the straightforward move. Perhaps you don't get the fancy mate, but I can't see anything to do against it.
I didn't get ANY of the key moves right on this one! This does teach a good lesson for not very good players like me who are always trying to get ahead on material. If you look at 5:20 you see that it's not much use having more pieces if the pieces are completely passive.
Pertaining to 5:13 bishop to e2 queen pin and trade up - - White loses his offensive white square bishop for a queen that is forced to be defensive because of the isolated black king. The black queen would be replaced by the black bishop and eventually the black rook as white has to move his rook out to re-create that pressure. White has to use his tempo and bully black into an even more awful position before he snatches the queen. I also forget to mention that black can also bring his knight to E5, but I'm not sure that would do as much good. In short, there's no point trading when you have a positional advantage if it doesn't give you good things, and whether or not something is good is best decided not by the individual value of a piece but the value of the overall position. Also, rooks take time to develop if they're single file. I think they're best played naturally into the game rather than forced out as that costs in tempo, though it can be really strong. See a strong move? Look for a stronger one.
"white offers draw" epic!
😂😂😂
i know this was written 5 years ago but this is funny LMAOOO
He realy got me there, lol
Black would definitely reject the draw offer in such a splendid position
Really? I'd take it right away...
Black would win. It is not allowed to offer a draw in an obviously winning position
_theJonz_ is that an actual rule? I thought an offer of draw can be made at any time
The Gentleman's rule of chess: when you have a mate in 1, offer a draw.
In every game there'd be a draw by that rule though. Every checkmate eventually becomes a 1 move checkmate.
You can resign
The Gentleman's rule #2 of chess: refuse to draw if you can be mated in 1.
I had a guy catch me off guard two days ago. As a gentleman, he offered a draw because he said that he felt he didn't deserve the win.
Joe Allen Barniak Did you deserve a draw though?
You got all the jokes, mato xD you really got me with that last one
Ford LaBoube whoa, your last name is laboob?? It's pronounced differently I'm assuming
"And white would offer a draw... just kidding checkmate" hahahhahaha
That's one thing you never hear these chess teachers do: say blatant crazy jokes like that. WTG Mato!!!
By offering a draw in that position, you would actually officially lose the match
why?
I see you everywhere
this joke always works.. :)
I like your way to show the games, letting people guess the moves, joking from time to time, quick and well explained. I used to play long time ago and you are making me playing chess again. thank you Mato.

"And then white would offer a draw" cracked me up :-D
Malinin was persistent but doomed. A very good game with instructive points.
Mato car si, svaka cast!
nice I liked the video and your voice
at 5:33 why not bishop to e2 queen lost!!!!!!!!
Good point.
+Vineet Shilpa because white saw that he had checkmate in few moves and did not want to waste time on queen
+Vineet Shilpa My question is why did black castle? That's what led to the loss.
Most amazing game I have seen now.
mato you are great more videos of karjakin
5:35 bishop to e2 can win the queen
that's what i thought...but i'm not a grandmaster...i suck at this game
True :) but Why win the queen when you can checkmate.
the queen was the only defender , get it off the board and u will get an isolated king surrounded with two rooks , two pawns and a queen
if there are two options...check mate and queen...always take queen...coz that may not be check mate...
Because checkmating with style is more important than winning queen ♕
Does white bishop to e2 at 5:32 work? It seems the straightforward move. Perhaps you don't get the fancy mate, but I can't see anything to do against it.
Keegan Idler Checkmate >>> Winning Queen
+m0skit0zindahouse Winning queen --> easier checkmate so you aren't dangered by queen mate.
Cheetahir Dude, what danger? There's no game after checkmate.
Rf6 bring mate in 8 forced, not Be2
AND.. White would offer a draw *whispering* Just.. Kidding.. Hahahaha!! I laughed so hardd! xD
subscribed. interesting videos

Super fun! Thanks.
Great game by karjakin! Mato I love when you jokes!
your jokes are gold
GREAT VIDEO!!!

Carjackin' is one gangster name.
Very nice game!
Beautiful unique game
DRAWWWWW....AAAWWWW...Sir ...U R GR8....
Brutal attack
"white would offer a draw".... said so dramatically..... too funny!
Never bring your queen into game in start.Opponents minor pieces harass your queen which hinder your development so badly!!
5:46 why wasn't Be2 played one move earlier pinning queen??
Wow, at the end position White can checkmate in *seven* different ways.
