"Use the force, Chris." I'd have ploughed straight into that cloud of smoke. Once the level of driving improves, I can see this game challenging ACC because LMPs are fun, if sometimes tricky, to drive.
I don’t have much experience in the LMP2 at all, and really struggle with it… particularly hopping into it after driving the GT3 on ACC. It is fun, and the feeling of speed is really good. The sim looks great too. Really challenging (and fast) combo for a rookies race, though. Not surprising there were so many mistakes!
People like the quote: “If you want to finish first, first you have to finish” Most people should really only be focusing on the second part: “FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH!” Can’t blame them though. Those LMP2s are tricky. Good race Chris 👍🏿
Great use of some pciture in picutre shots keeping everyone tooned in to whats happening, love the LMU content and hoping for more races on it! (and maybe a tad bit longer video)
It looks fantastic, LMU. Really nice. I enjoy racing it, even if this combo was a challenging one. Hopefully the next race will be more action-packed to make a longer video! In this one, the rest of it didn’t make the cut (me driving around on my own the rest of the time!)
Can't imagine how long it even takes to edit a video of this length and quality. I would love a longer video also as this is by far the most entertaining sim racer to watch and listen to. But we have to remember all the effort he must put in so I'm grateful for however long the video is
Eventful is a very apt description of that race. Your spidey senses definitely tingled at the right time. Big congratz on making it to the finish line in 1 piece.
Thank you, yeah survival was an achievement in itself. Crazy to think I got 4 freebies at T1, and then another 11 freebies after the lap one crash. That’s 15 free positions… there were only 20 cars on the grid 🤣
I love the experience of driving them, but I find them very difficult. I’ve never really raced them before getting LMU. Which is a good reason to get the sim… offers something a little different to what I usually race 👍
It is good fun. I wouldn’t recommend it as your only sim, as it’s quite light on content and would get repetitive quickly. But as an ‘extra’ sim to dip into for something different, it’s very decent 👍
Some shocking driving there by others but good job on the result. Imagine if you did the beginner races last week, they let rookies drive the hypercars, I seen some questionable driving then, probably due to them not being able to handle the cars. A tip for the starting procedure, you can use the pit limiter to hold speed at 60 without feathering the throttle and just turn it off on the green light.
That is a great tip, thank you! It always annoyed me that the pit limiter in ACC never matched the rolling start speed. This will make it much easier. And blimey, I’m glad I missed last week! I thought this combo was a bit too much of a handful for the rookies, but the hypercar? Wow. I don’t think I’m getting much closer to my licence as I’ve been hit hard with a couple of DNFs.
Greta race, I really want to run more LMU but for the life of me I can't get the steering to feel right. seems I have to put 30% more steering rotation in to get the cars to have the same steering rotation as all the other sims.
Great race there Chris, no you didn't break too soon, he just went in way too hot. Great comeback and finish!!, I love Leman and these LMP cars, great fun! Thanks for sharing w us!!!!
Thanks Walt, yeah afterwards I watched the replay again and the cars in front of me all braked at the same spot I did. So definitely him behind running in too hot. Cheers!
Yeah it was brutal out there. I don’t remember the LMP2 being such a handful at the other tracks I’ve raced, but I guess Le Mans has the toughest heavy braking zones at the end of all those long straights. Seemed to be catching A LOT of people out!
2:40 what you could have done if you both saw him coming in way too fast and was able to process it, you could have let off the breaks. The milder version of this would make you run wide for the corner. The more severe is completely blow through the corner and take the slow down penalty. Both will lessen the likelihood of an impact or at least less severe. Loosing a bit of time, mild damage from running through the grass or gravel would be preferable to LOTS of time lost and more severe damage🤨😅 As a precaition if you think there is a high probability of being rear ended, entering the outside of the turn, and have clear space in front of you, you could break really late, and run wide through the turn (be careful to not lock the breaks or run off the track). To decrease the chance of locking the rears at the beginning of a race you could move the bias a bit forward for the first few turns. This will probably be a bit slower but if you do accidentally lock the breaks, you won't spin. You could even adjust the bias throughout the lap to suit each corner. To do that, your bias buttons will need to be VERY easy to press at any angle of ur steering wheel. (I learned this from Danny Lee's channel).
Yeah that’s a really good backup plan to have up my sleeve for next time I race on this circuit, thank you. I hadn’t even considered it before this one, so I was caught completely by surprise. But it’s definitely a good safety net to have, positioning yourself so you can more easily abort the corner and take the slowdown penalty instead. Cheers
@chrisrogerssimracing a similar example of this happened at the 2023 Moto America Superbike race #2 at Road Atlanta, which has got to be one of the scariest set of close calls I've ever seen🫨 There was a 4 way fight for the lead on the last lap, two of the riders touched through a sweeping right turn at over 170 mph, The rider on the outside, Josh Herrin, got sideways coming ~ 2ft from running off track at over 170 & leaned over @ ~ 45°. He kept the throttle open and regained control of the bike. Now, going 176 mph he sits up to break for the last left-right chicane before the finish, but he has less than half his normal front breaking power (later discovered his front break pads got knocked loose). In his desperate attempt to slow down, he stays upright and splits two other bikes as they lean into the left-hand turn (possibly the closest miss I've ever seen, esp IRL). He then ran through the grass, kept it upright, and then got it back on track, still finishing 4th. From the live video, it looked like Herrin left his breaking for ridiculously late & intentionally tried to torpedo the other riders. What really happened was learned when they interviewed Herrin, and his account IMO was confirmed by a slow-motion replay.
Keeping yourself safe and surviving is absolutely the key in this combo. The cars are SO difficult to stop in the heavy braking zones. There’s a very fine line between braking too softly, and locking up. It was really tough.
I think it was more braking in general, rather than cold tyres. There was a really fine line between braking too softly, and then applying too much pressure and locking up. It was very challenging to find the sweet spot. A very tough challenge for a rookies grid to contend with.
I’ve had some decent races in it, but I think maybe the GTE cars are better suited to rookie races. I’ve not got a high enough rating yet to graduate into the higher classes. But these LMP2 cars are VERY fast and a handful… maybe too much for a lot of beginners to jump right in on
Thanks Chris, the racing standards in ACC has been so ridiculous the last few weeks, I've been thinking I should play LMU instead. But after seeing this, I know that it makes no sense to spend 30 Euros on another shitshow...
The other races I’ve done in LMU have been better than this. The combo here was really challenging. I’m not very good in LMP2s anyway, but braking was so difficult… a very fine line between braking too softly, or applying a touch too much pressure and locking up. So quite a tough car to handle in a rookies race. The GTEs are easier!
@@chrisrogerssimracing I've found LMU to be pretty bad for on-line racing too. Too many optimistic/aggressive over taking attempts and then people going postal if they get taken out and just turning it into a wreck fest..
I’m catching you out by uploading more regularly this week! More than my usual one a week. But I got this extra one out quickly as I’m away for the week next week 👍
Yeah there are, but I haven’t completed enough races yet to have a high enough rating. I only dip in for the occasional race every couple of weeks. I reckon 10 clean races would probably be enough to graduate. I must have done 10 races now, but they’ve not all been clean 🤣
Yes, afraid so. It is a rookies series though, I haven’t done enough races yet to gain the licence for the senior races. Very fast and challenging car for rookies, this one.
Lemans Ultimate has probably the worst race start setup of any sim I've ever played. If the car in front of you doesn't respond or is slow to respond the software tells you pass them....BUT if you do and they don't catch back up you are hit with a stop and go penalty as soon as the race starts. This happened to me 3 times over the weekend. To make things even worse, In two of those races I was rear ended before green by the car behind me. In both cases the people claimed to have connection issues. This should be an easy fix but Motorsports Games is too focused on additional monetization
Yeah the start procedure isn’t great. The new ‘track green/red zone’ is tricky to follow too… it’s much easier on ACC when it just pops up on the HUD. Far easier to see.
A lot of these drivers simply can’t handle the cars, also get overexcited and dive bomb the corners. Lot of beginners lack patience and try to overtake where it’s guaranteed to go wrong; if I see an idiot like that I just make room and let them pass, eventually they’ll crash out. Also, best to stay back in a race like this; one by one they begin to fall, make mistakes and crash out.
100%. If I do this combo again, I will absolutely be hanging back whenever there’s a chance of danger. I’ve raced these cars at Spa and Monza too, and they felt a lot safer then. But this was my first race since the update, so maybe the braking is a bit more sensitive now?
Man, this game never disappoints with its online racing. It’s basically the only racing sim I play nowadays.
"Use the force, Chris." I'd have ploughed straight into that cloud of smoke. Once the level of driving improves, I can see this game challenging ACC because LMPs are fun, if sometimes tricky, to drive.

Thank you. Yeah 11 freebies in a sprint race is crazy. And that doesn’t even include the 3-4 I got at T1 at the very start!

nice, this is almost on level with the LMP3 @ Lemans races that LFM did when they added AC :D
Haha yes! Funnily enough, I made a video of that combo too and it became one of my most-viewed - due to the complete carnage from start to finish!
I must admit I still haven't bought it but the temptation is increasing. You were lucky to make it to the end Chris.
Buy it.

Talk about survival of the fittest. That was plenty eventful and yet you survived. Thanks for the content.

well done surviving that. too many think they're max verstappen.

Thank you Lee!
So, is the radar standard now on the LMU HUD? I tried to add it with the rF2 plugin, but could never get it figured out.
Yes, part of the standard HUD now. I didn’t even have to switch it on in settings. It was just suddenly there 👍
My lord, what a crazy race! Is this sim always like this? I don't seem to see many "great" races in LMU
