This is a pure Tibetanized version of the story. The fact that this story fails to even mention the ancient Newar name for Boudha ‘Khasti’ is a great example of why you can’t gaslight history. The stories you mention are one of the mythological stories, but as Boudha was made by Lichavi kings, and is made in Kathmandu valley, home of the Newar civilization, is a deep oversight.

Agreed! Buddhism was present here long before the tibetan refugees arrived here. I feel this video is a bit biased towards portraying boudha as a totally Buddhist monument made purely by Buddhist. Nepal's ancient civilization runs deep into newa culture and the fact that it was totally ignored is weird.

People from every corner of the world comes to Nepal to learn and practice buddhism, Nepal is considered "MECA" of buddhist as the birth place of lord Buddha, but sadly we Nepalese always left it as a proud slogan " Buddha was born in Nepal, " Never tried to understand our own home grown religion buddhism , never tried to keen buddhas teaching ,his preach. rather more after others practice, Today buddhism is considered one of the fasting growing new religion in western world , instead of proving each others words wrong and useless arguments , lets all try to learn and practice buddhas teaching not just staying with pride as a land of buddha. sadhu sadhu sadhu

Very good digging and good insight.Baudha was built during the Lychavi dynasty in common era, let's be clear on that.Lichavi dynasty was one of the richest dynasty in the history of Nepal and some says, it was the golden era of Nepal. Most Lichavi kings were Buddhist devotees. Many Buddhists viharas and shrines in Kantipur were built during the Lichavi dynasty of Mandeva and Dharmadeva era.
Many great Buddhist saints and Acharya from the Nalanda university used to pass by the Kantipur during the Lichavi dynasty and before. They used to spend months in Kantipur for climatization since they were coming from Maghad (former Bihar) India on the way to Tibet.Kantipur has history of great Buddhists hub in ancient time.
It is true that native of Kantipur (Newars) has it's own name for Baudha which is called Khasti.Majority of Newars of Kantipur used to be Buddhists, and some tilted towards Hinduism when Jaysthiti malla destroyed many Viharas and made Vikhus and Vikhunis to get married with force during the Malla dynasty. There was a deep oppression on Buddhists and on Buddha dhamma overall during the reign of Malla dynasty and Rana dynasty.
    For the note,
However in the 21st century,Tibetan refugees and Himalayan tribal people like Sherpas,Yolmos,Gurungs,Tamangs played significant role to make Baudha popular pilgrimage.Even Bhutanese people come here every year to pay their respect. Many Rinpoches and Bhutanese monarchs have donated to make Baudha what it is now. After the 2015 earthquake, Nepali Buddhists community and international Buddhist community donated for renovation and reconstruction of Baudha. It was not Nepali government whatsoever.

How can you talk about Bouddha's origin without mentioning the original name - "Khasti Chaitya"? Also, the fact that Bouddha has an Ajima (Newar pre-vedic mother goddess temple should be talked about. Newar Buddhists played an integral role in Tibetan Buddhism. Even Tibetans learn about the Licchavi princess Bhrikuti taking Newar artisans and Buddhism to Tibet. Most people in Nepal unfortunately don't know this. Call it what it is - Khasti Chaitya.

Loved every bit of the video. I guess you may have glossed over the Newar narrative of “Khasti Chaitya” but as the title suggests, this is purely from a mythological perspective so i would like to push back on those saying that “its sad” or that “this is false”.. by saying that there are different versions of stories everywhere about everything.. just be conscious of your biases and how that might drive you into becoming overly defensive. I am from a Tibetan Buddhist family (although I wouldn’t identify myself as a Buddhist), and tbh, i really couldn’t care less if the video is trying to “Tibetanize” or “ignore” the Newa narrative.. the fact is that Boudha is here, its for everyone - as the video laid out - and we merely need to cooperate with each other in preserving this site (be it for communal, religious or economic reasons).

He was born in lumbini which only became part of nepal after king prithivi narayan shah.. Buddha's kingdom Kapilvastu is now splitted in two half in Nepal and half in india.. And lumbini was never part of any nepalese empire except the gorkhali empire.. Lumbini was under maurya empire the proof we have of buddhism the ashoka pillar mentions that ashoka deducted tax for people of lumbini cause buddha was born there...

Bro l ll make it clear that woman u r talking is a low cast woman and in old times Nepal has made animal husbandry as low caste so her 4 husband was of that caste rearing animals like pigs, hens so on...and all her husbands eventually died with good fortune with her she wanted to build something where people could pray whole heartedly so she ask king for a land to build her stupa and king just told her to use as size of buffalo skin. She was so deemed to think in better way using her idea making skin into thin strips of thread hence circling huge plot of land and the higher caste see her that situation and told king why u r giving such huge land to a lower caste lady and king told them he told her already and couldn't take that words back so stupa was made and to finished its holiness she asked one if her son to bring buddha tooth from India and that was later installed inside that stupa ..from that there was also next story of buffalo used in building stupa and the crow at roof which ll be related to rebirth of tibetan empire and king...ll tell u if someone interested ☺☺☺

Nepal has been a land of vajrayana bhudhism but unfortunately now its hindu rashtra. Thanks to China invasion to tibet, now vajrayana bhudhism is reviving back in nepal.

    Hey here's a idea of a video
How about a video series of time period of Nepal after Rana regime to 2nd civil war or end of monarchy
Like I see there are considerable amount of videos on the topic but they are kind of cringy so if u ever run out of ideas this could be perfect
