I love this pattern. I mainly fish terrestrial flies for coarse fish, this one looks fantastic.

So. I'm gonna ask a stupid question.
Would you be willing to do some tutorial videos on the basics of fly tying, going over tools and whatever? I'm wanting to get into tying, but I don't know where to start.

There’s lots of videos on beginning tying. I inherited a vice many years ago. The first thing local flyshop owner sold me was Charlie Cravens Basic Fly Tying book. I read it cover to cover 6 years ago. It was around $30. I’ve literally spent thousands of dollars since then 😂. I have to say it was the best $30 I spent, still refer to it often. Just get an inexpensive kit to start, if you don’t like it your not out much. I’ve hopped on both feet, probably be at the flyshop tomorrow! 😅 Hope you get into tying. Nothing like catching fish on flies you make, especially ones you design for specific circumstances. Good fishing to you! Have fun! 👍👌🎣

Get some locking needlenose pliers or find a way to jig it up and get it to hold at this angle, then hit a fly shop and buy materials

I used to use live hoppers to catch trout, you see catching the trout is the easy part, the hopper on the other hand... Great substitute!

Very good fly, had the most success with a version using black foam and brown dubbing.

Awesome fly! I’ll definitely be making some. I’m going to tie knot in back legs to give it a bend. ( I also tie one almost the exact same. I made a version of the local Llano bug, also a Great fly. These are my “Go To” flies to catch fish.) Largemouth love em! Thanks for sharing this! 👍👍👌🎣

What size hook are you using in the video ?

  • @electrontube

If you put two holes in a water bottle cap and bend that razor blade into the inside curve, you can secure it with some small zip-ties. Use the space in the middle of the razor for the zip ties.
It safely trims away elk, deer, and moose hair and would really help you speed through finishing the heads on your hoppers.
    1. It's a bottle cap.
    2. You live in Maine, you have zip ties.
    3. The cops can't stop you.
