  • Quick video of my experiences of tuning the timing with fox body mustangs with centrifugal blowers (Vortech, Paxton, ProCharger) using the supplied Boost Timing Master that normally comes with your kit. Sorry for the crappy quality of it, I just held my cell phone up to the computer screen, don't expect much with my video capabilities, so be kind.
Please do your research before doing anything I suggest in this video, I'm not a professional tuner, just an old man with a lot of experiences with fox bodies and Vortech blowers.

Well I know what it is I finally thought I found a used one for my blow through carb turbo setup but the guy didn’t have the controller that goes 0-3* in the car. If anyone has one they are not using I would love to purchase it or if someone could walk me through building my own would also be greatly appreciated

Hey i am interested in that spreadsheet

Also would the MSD 2 step be a useful replacement?

I can’t see how a two step would be able to retard timing according to boost, sorry.

Hi, do you have that spreadsheet available?

Hey I am interested in your spread sheet. I'm doing a old school street/strip ProCharger deal with a MSD BTM and this would be a nice tool for calculating my curve. If you don't mind sharing how do I get your email?

Good video, the timing settings you were referring to in your chart was that the timing physically set with a timing light let’s say at 12degrees advanced so I would set on the MSD 1degree?

Thanks. Look at it this way, if you leave your initial timing to the factory 10^ with the ‘sprout’ out and with a light, your max timing at WOT is 26^ (when the sprout is back in, that lets the computer take charge). Advancing that initial timing to 12 will increase your whole curve by the +2^ change, so max timing is now 28^ from the EEC. Now comes the Boost Timing Master to overlay an adjustment, and if you were seeing 10# max boost with the dial settings on 1, it’ll retard 10^ (10#x1^=10^) to your 28^ resulting in 18^ in total timing (little aggressive with 93 octane IMO). Same example except 1.5 on the dial, it’ll adjust 15^ now (the max retard the BTM will allow) to your 28^ resulting in 13^ max timing at WOT. Remember you have to be ‘honest’ about boost, it’s a big factor here.
The best thing about retarding to boost is all that great timing you’ll get when boost is low, and come down accordingly with increased boost.
Sorry for the novel, hope this helps.

Thank you that makes sense, I was trying to see how to set the retard timing on the dial. MSD states to drive the car in 3rd gear to around 2500rpm and then use the dial to adjust timeline until you don’t get detonation . Kinda of didn’t make sense, I have a stock 90gt with a Paxton supercharger 6.75 lower crank with 2.75 upper pulley. I was trying to find out a more detailed way of setting the dial on the 6btm. Your video was more helpful, any other tips would be great thank!

@@elegancehomepainting I’m not sure which Paxton you have, but you might want to calculate your impeller speed with that pulley combo. If it’s the same step up ratio as the Vortech V1 of 3.45, it’s spinning 50k at 6k rpms, which is max for say the old V1 S trim. I would imagine it would produce around 15# boost. Vortech has a calculator on their web site. Good luck.

I’m running a novi1200sl 5-6lbs of boost maybe now with the smaller pulley 7lbs of boost.
