Brian Scotto: HOONIGAN's Future; Carcaine; Working w/ Ken - TST Podcast
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 11 июн 2024
- Brian Scotto is the co-founder of HOONIGAN, a brand that either created or found a new kind of car enthusiast that loved their cars but drove them in a way that some would call abusive. To the Hoonigans it was what was needed to go drifting, rally racing, or to just have fun. Burnouts: evolved. Working alongside business partner and mentor, Ken Block, they created the Gymkhana video series, holding the attention of over 550 million people and brands like Ford, Monster Energy, and Subaru.
On this episode we talk about @brianscotto growing collection of Audis and VWs (some of which work); getting in early on the RWB Porsche craze; how a valve cover fix became a whole engine; the slippery slope of Audi love; the wonderful challenge that was working with Ken; and how the dark cloud of a sudden and terrible tragedy caused him and the HOONIGAN family to come together and reflect on the past and plan the future.

I loved hearing about everything Brian had to say and just how much Ken meant to everyone. Him being gone has changed everything in this community and Brian being the one to reach out to come on to the show this time where before, Brian’s thing was you couldn’t get a hold of the guy is a perfect example of this. Hearing about Ken from everyone around the community has made me think about my relationships and my work life balance, and even what matters in the work I’m doing. Thank you for everything Ken, and thank you Scotto for continuing his legacy through Hoonigan, your work ethic, and everything else you’ve done. ❤️

Scotto may not know this is but he is also a Legend.
Well said!! He means so much to this Community, he is the other half of Hoonigan that has made it so successful and created a community we love and truly get to be a part of! Daily Transmission changed the game!!!! I loved waking up in the morning and watching the new DT videos, I still watch every single video Honnigan posts on any of their channels. Much love Brian thank you bro!!
these are the episodes i love. i don't know if a human will see this but i want to say that the connection of companies with dtm, ralliey etc is what made them cool. as a kid i was looking at race cars and comparing them to what i saw every day. that is why i wanted a subaru, a citroen c4 etc.
I need a tshirt with brian scotto in a scuba mask while matt eats an oreo and both are hanging out of a shitbox audi saying "slow cars fast all day".
Huh?
Make it happen
@@xprettylightsx3781It’s from a segment in the podcast he jokes about it, although tbh this ep was so jam packed I already forget what the context to it was 😂

I love Brian he's such a good guest I've been waiting for this for a while. I was at the Olympus rally last weekend and saw Ken's Ford and it definitely choked me up
I have also been waiting for this for a long while I’ve rewatched just about every other Scotto podcast 3 times each😂 something about him is just so relatable idk he is a great speaker
It’s really wild to hear that Scottos mom helped developed the treatment for Hodgkins!!
My father has Hodgkinds lymphoma and thanks to the new treatment, he had a 1-year treatment period and has been in remission since!
Thanks scottos mom!!!! ❤
Scotto is such a great guest! I think him and Freiburger together could be an interesting 4 hour podcast easily.
This podcast is by far the best one to be subscribed to! Have been a Patreon since day one on the highest tier and doesn’t disappoint!

Hey Matt and Zack! That red AE86 is located in the Philippines. Those are Philippine plates. That shot looks like it was taken in a business district where local car enthusiasts gather in Sunday mornings for a cars & coffee style gathering. Cheers from the Philippines! 🇵🇭 long time fan here. Keep it up! 🍻
Come to think about it, that silver 911 in the background is owned by a guy who lives in the same residential area as I do.
Holy, 2 and half hours. Lets go
It's a good'n.
@@zackklapman3569 I bet
Send this guy back to work.
@@HooniganProjectGarage He said all his cars are running fine.
gosh man I could listen to scotto talk for hours, I love that guy
Scotto is probably my favorite person in the automotive world. 🖤⚡️
Really enjoy hearing Scotto! Not to tempt you in any way (carcaine), but I have one of very few ORIGINAL manual Audi S8 D2 restyling, in racing green over beige (leather/alcantara) and wood. Using it as intended as I just got back to Spain from Switzerland.
its a manual S8? Damn. Those early V8's were also cool as hell
@@thehumanoid6543 Correct. Only around 300 units in the world. Never available in the USA and not a popular option in Europe. Quite lighter than the tiptronic model (weighed mine with driver and 80% fuel at around 1740kg). In my case, it is a 40valve engine that revs to over 7k. Same engine and gearbox as the Spyker C8 uses if I am not mistaken. Cheers!
Such a good show. Love the conversation
In 2012 me and the boys went to LeMans24 because I got tickets as my birthday gift, and the days before the race started we just walked around and admired everything ate and drank the whole time, and on race day around 7 o'clock in the evening we dropped a trip tab each and just wandered around and found a nice spot to watch the race while it was still light outside. By sundown it hit us but not like full on, so we dropped another(never doubling again tbh)and went for a walk to find another spot...big mistake! When it hit us really hard like an hour later we found ourselves in like some forrest and the sounds of the cars were insanely loud, some sounds didnt sound like cars but monsters btw, and also you could see the headlights reflexions on some trees, it was a crazy experience. We kept walking around laughing like animals and having the weirdest and funniest conversations ever. During the night it started raining a little and it sobered us a bit, enough to realize we were like walking away from everything and found ourselves next to a fence, which was probably a surrounding fence of the whole area, so we decided to head back next to the track. We got back and said fuck it lets go to bed. After what seemed like hours searching we found our campsite, and we slept so much that when we woke up not only the race was finished, there were people around us packing their tents and all that. That day we sat around with swollen feet, drank tea all day and just gazed in the distance, all four of us being super silent. When evening came we had packed everything and hit the road around 11 at night so we wouldn't be stuck in the traffic jam of people also leaving. It was a sublime week and I not only reccomend doing what we did(wink wink), and would do it again myself with the pack, but now we all have kids and businesses and other obligations, and also some of the wifes wouldn't agree to let us loose like that again 😂😂😂
Scotto… such a legit dude. Class act, well spoken.. he literally has so much passion for things he can’t keep his train of thought 😂
I was lucky enough to meet Ken at that first xgames rally. That evening he introduced me to Colin McRae (hero at the time) and my current friend Tanner Foust. I bought them a round of shots that night and got to share some amazing words with my favorite drivers ever. Incredible moment and thank you Ken.
All hail the algorithm
This is the "Dances With Wolves" podcast. Gonna need a couple of cans of MONSTER ENERGY to get through it. 😅
Such a great episode… really had a great time
Watching/listening to this while I prepare my LS to drop into my 77 Trans Am build. Good motivation listening to Scotto talk about all the projects he hasn't finished 😂
The fact Scotto got told "ok that's it" and he's like "but let's keep talking? And let's go!" Haha
Brian you inspire so many of us, we love ya brother, thank you for all the great content you have given us throughout the years!!!! We look forward to much much more!!
I feel that this conversation was very therapeutic and very much needed for Scotto. 💙
Great conversation guys!
this was honestly one of my favorite episodes of the podcast I’ve seen. So fucking enjoyable. Scotto is a sweetheart and a legend
Dude, scotto on 2 bears would be the highest definition of 2 worlds collide in the best of ways
This was a really great episode! I can't wait for Brian to return!
Thank You for bringing Scotto
What a great guest to have, and I wholely support the "car guys getting into trouble" type of content. When you have fun, we have fun, everybody wins!
The Saab Turnpike Rally sounds amazing too!
as tough or toxic as a critic/partner/person Ken was, as a viewer and a fan... I cannot say how much each and everyone of us were blown away by the content Hoonigan and Ken would produce. truly mind melting and inspiring to witness.
Dude I've done Le Man's 6 times and 8 can tell you it's a party atmosphere around the campsites. Burnouts donuts around roundabouts beer bottle walls and some crazy camping setups with full on 60plus inch TVs and computer steering wheel gaming setups. It's madness. Also you can get around most of the track you just have to be committed and use the free coach and bus services they put on during the race and not be afraid to just walk through French countryside just using the sounds of the engines as a guide
I love Brian Scotto! Fellow ADHD, VW/Audi guy and shitbox enthusiast!
One of my favorite hoonigan cars was shitcar in stock form because the guys genuinely enjoyed driving the shit out of it without taking things too seriously. I really would enjoy listening Brian nerd out about VW/Audi and talk about his carcaine addiction!
I surprisingly didn't forget to eat today...
Amazing podcast guys. I hope you get all the views.
Easily the best TST episode
One of the best guests!
I hope the next Podcast with scotto is at least 6 hours or longer.
What an awesome show!!
Great episode ! I’m all for some Scottos Farm
Godfather scotto
When Scotto mentioned getting his pops a convertible to daily when he visits the ranch I IMMEDIATELY thought about Jason Camisa’s B**ch Basket 16v VW Cabriolet lol. It’s a convertible and would be a NICE driving mk1 and would make a dope build series.
Killer episode! You guys can break that podcast record time, set it up and send it, we'll be there.
I don't remember the last time I listened to every second of a podcast.
I love Scotto always. Always been a fan of his vision. Scotto also kills it in the 90's hip hop Spotify playlists. Thanks Smoking Tire and Scotto. 🤙
I could listen to Scotto for a lot longer. Amazing interview.
This is solid gold.
I would listen to Scotto talk about stupid shit for hours. My favourite parts of Hoonigan videos is when he goes on tangents.
Thank you, tst, Brian, and Ken. You guys are all pretty rad but this one meant something to me and was hard to start but not hard to watch. 🤘♥️😎♥️🤘 #KB43VER
NEW SCOTTO PODCAST LETS GOOOO
Great episode, Brian is a champ.
Sound is one of if not the biggest influence on a car
Running joke in the mini van head to head is a Previa that follows and gets all the real praise
this was a fun one. scotto is the man
Loved this whole show. Damn this was good
Great episode! Scott is a great guest.
2:26:30 “We just need to go back to being what we want to be” is the biggest beacon of light we’ve seen at Hoonigan this year.
We know TVT pays the bills well. It’s popular. It’s fun to watch too.
But you guys, YOU GUYS and your cars, your personalities, your shit talk is what keeps the real purists watching.
I don’t know what it’s like having millions of people know your face but you don’t know ours, but we’ve known you guys for like 10 years now. We fuck with you heavy. Just stay around, stay real. Hoonigan is raw and unprofessional, do the thing where you’re just professional enough not to get fired lol. That’s what we love.
We watched Ken for much more than just Gymkhana, it was the capstone yes, but Ken’s demeanor is what we enjoy. Just like Yours is. We’re not going anywhere, go get your cars running.
this podcast felt like a message which needed to be stated out loud after Ken's passing - Hoonigan is an important identity on its own, and without Ken it is ok to move it to new place/new format, which agrees with personalities of the rest of the team.
@@drivingpsyche between the Audi talk, feel like Brian vented and laid out the framework for where it goes next. I like where it’s going a lot. I think KB’s vision was to start an automotive counterculture and shake up the scene, reinvigorating enthusiasm for car culture and building things, having fun and being creative, shattering silos and bringing folks together. Goal or not that’s what Hoonigan did and continues to do 🤘🏼
U guys said it yourself... I enjoy watching car people do non car stuff. Great show always enjoy watching scotto. Can't wait for the 4 hour show🤣🤣🤣
🙌 YAH SCOTTO!
Great show today lads
Awesome podcast!
Hope to see you in the Palomar Mountains
Thanks for the great listen. RIP Ken and condolences to all the friends and family. Who's Rachel?
Asides from all of Puerto Rico. Orlando/Kissimmee Florida has soo many dope Samurai's, Rotaries, and old JDM classics.
Can Scotto just be on weekly? Can listen to that man talk for days,
The one time I got to meet Ken was the same time I also got to meet Matt ironically in Michigan. Brian said it perfectly, if Ken really didn’t wanna do something, he’d just leave and that happened. I looked at my buddy who I brought to the Octane Academy press event and just laughed and said “yea I get it”. The small time I got to talk to him changed my life., what an amazing guy. R.I.P Ken
Brain is the coolest!
Brian seems like a great dude. He's living the dream! Thanks for the long podcast guys.
Gotta get Jason Ellis on the show!! He would be an amazing guest
Matt you're looking really health.
Amazing
Waiting for Scotto's Farm will be a huge hit. Getting everyone to know scottto better and his home life, gotta run some 80s liebherr combine on an audi 2.2 tho..
Awesome pod cast just loved it there's hundreds of those Toyota vans here in New Zealand there called a Toyota estima over here JDM import.
Me and my baseball buddies used to absolutely thrash the streets with a Suzuki samurai. So sick. All doors can be taken off really easily
Great listen as ever. Just one thing to noted - Brian clearly did not have a representative experience of Le Mans! LM24 for the vast majority of people is camping, beer mountains, mad Friday, burnouts, creeping through the woods to the mulsanne, chips and mayo, the fairground.... And being curled up in a sleeping bag, on a cold concrete terraced grandstand, one earbud with the team from Radio Le Mans and the other listening to the GT class cars thunder by with yellow lights, glowing brakes and duct taped bodywork.
at 1:46:00 who does brian scotto reffer to as rachel? was she part of the car community?
I too am wondering who Rachel was
I have the same question. Googled and didn't find anything.
I believe he is referring to Rachael larrit, she was a member of savage garage and died of MS last year
@@jamesedington7903 Thank you for the information.
Since Scotto says the hill is super small; Why not build a racing lawn mower or something small? Small Shart Kart?
Respect ❤
Jdm version of the previa is the estima , seen one rolling around pretty cool with its rearview mirror on the back door
Thanks Scotto for reminding me of "Hot for Words"
Scotto is great man
The previa is called the estima in Japan
Looking forward to The Ava-Scotto Hill Climb
Scotto is one of the few guys I follow that I bet is a solid hang.
great guest, scotto's the man. btw, the audio sync is off
You could ask Scotto a question, leave the room for 30 minutes, and when you come back he'd still be talking.
SCOTTO!!!
27:56 glad I wasn't the only one that thinked this lol
Did 227mph in a Pontiac Firehawk back in the early 2000's and haven't passed 120 since, I agree with Scotto, that's not how I want to die.
Too funny when I was in the Marines stationed on Camp Pendleton in the mid 1990s my girlfriend (now wife) bought a Samurai. When I wasn't driving my corrado I'd use the Samurai and during lunch go out the backgate to Fallbrook and go off-roading in the riverbeds. I wasn't in to off-roading but was really impressed with it and often had to yank others out.
A Corrado man!!
I would have listened to his podcast for hours if the stories kept coming. Great podcast! #kb43vr
We all appreciate everything you have done Scotto. Keep up the good work but slow down and take time to enjoy the fuck out of life. You never know what tomorrow will bring. R.I.P. Ken....
I've never seen this podcast b4 this dude looks like the Joe Rogan of the car world
@55:00 yeah there is, its called the Toyota Estima.
I clicked this video cause I thought the left guy was Lew Later from unbox therapy 😂
23&ME-Scotto
Scotto needs to get some obscure tractors for his farm. I feel like a pasquali articulated tractor would be up his alley
I wanna see a 5 hour pod with you guys and Scotto the last 2 hours is just good whiskey 😂 only the real ones will watch the drunk parts 😂
I wish I could add a picture of my previa to this just because of that portion of the podcast.
Matt - your video was actually an essential part of me and my wife buying one lol
We got it for 200$$
Awesome episode! BUT: video and audio were way out of sync - which made watching it a bit painful... 👀
I love that it took him 1 hour to answer what's next to Hoonigan lol
