@@cabinriveroutdoors📌Shawn, Shawn James dropped a video a few weeks ago on his channel My Self Reliance titled HOW TO PRESERVE WOOD WITH FIRE, the proper way to do it & why (I'm sure you know of him), goes into detail about the char method used on wood for building, he even uses it on his roof its gorgeous, it will help you A LOT (and all of us), I definitely recommend watching it (only a few minutes long) as soon as you can & before you build. You're doing a nice job!! 👍🏻
I am a big fan of Alone which is a multi million dollar high production quality global show, when your videos come out I am getting the same kind of anticipation of that same vibe, it is a pretty amazing achievement that despite everything else you have to accomplish you still manage to put out high quality video content as well, a massive thumbs up. This channel will surely blow up if you continue on this path.
You are a natural! You know exactly how long a sequence should be, to balance between "seeing enough" and "boooring" . And just enough talking too! You have a nice, clear voice and an articulate pronounciation, so your viewers don't miss a word. I enjoy your videos immensely. Thank you! 😍
Shawn I am thoroughly enjoying watching you build your cabin. I especially enjoy listening to you give commentary on what you are doing and the way you think out loud when you are second guessing yourself. Keep doing what you are doing, it is very enjoyable.
I'm enjoying this so much and you are doing a great job you're right quit stressing have faith in yourself that cabin will be there when we're gone. Thank you for the videos I'm almost 78 years old can't get out too much at all and this really brings me enjoyment I'm getting to see things that I've never seen before enjoy life and have faith
In all the cabin builds I've watched on RUclips...yours is the only one that actually shows how to join the walls at the corners...Thank You!!! Keep up the great work looking forward to more great content!!
your youtube channel sir us my safe space. i will do this when i’ve got enough savings. i will go off grid away from people. thank you for showing it can be done.
Excellent video and thank you for sharing. You know I love wild homestead, but the guy has weekly video on Saturdays and all he does is screw in some screws for 1 hour, you got the whole plan for the roof, built the walls etc. This is content we truly enjoy, so thanks. 🦖
From the start of your series I always thought to myself there will come a time where he needs to realize he has to change how to eat, what to eat on, and what to cook on. These are things that will save you money by consuming things correctly.
If people liked videos before watching them ( even just for the sake of acknowledging the creator MADE the video) then there'd be way more than 5 thousand likes for over 50 thousand views. C'mon people! It's ONE tap, costs nothing.
Shawn that screw you tighten is the fuel line pump that controls the fuel maybe back it out to get better performance back just turn it a corner turn at a time
I think my favorite part of this one was when you finally took a break and just sat in the chair and looked at the river. Youve been putting in some work Dude and the builds are looking great.
I like the way you reason things out by talking it over to yourself. Yes, it will last your lifetime, you are doing ok. Burn the posts first before setting them in the ground then use that clay to seal around the top to keep snow melt out.
As I commented to Wild Homestead; You really should make a floating hydro electric generator as you are being that close to the water. Power is always nice and the water flows even if it is cloudy.
BC is pretty stringent about their salmon rivers. Local laws may not allow it. Worth looking into but being Canada that river is also frozen solid for much of the year.
The videos are getting BETTER. Nice job framing too. Solid as all heck. I can tell you’ve framed at some point. It will take time but I can see this channel providing for you, friend. Right on
Gotta say, you definitely have worked in the trades! You are doing it right the first time and saving so much future work. Such a refreshing change from so many others where I find myself screaming at my screen or seriously fearing for their safety.
Talk our ears off all you want, obsess all you want, its all part of what makes your videos uniquely you. I loved this video Alot...may be my favorite so far...I'm so disappointed when they're over. Right at the 42:53 mark i think it's really beautiful right in there. Till next time.
You’ve literally had your nail gun for a week and a half and you’ve used it more than I’ve used mine. Lol. Nice. Love this tool! Have I mentioned that I envy what you’re doing? I don’t think so. Well, I do! Can’t wait for next week! Watching from Ontario Canada 🎉
I look forward each Thursday to your videos! Each week I think, this is the video where he will have adopted a dog to keep him company and chase the bears away. There are so many dogs needing a home and your home would be wonderful!
Amazing progress on the cabin. My little ones loved the trail camera photos. When my little man saw the bear. He did a happy dance. Can't wait for next week 🙌
ethanol in fuel is a very real issue. Invest in a good ethanol stabilizer to use in anything that may sit for even a week without use. the water it will absorb displaces the fuel in the carb. especially on gravity fed fuel systems. it will also occur in pressure fed systems as the bowl of the carb will collect the water. For the boat I would 100% invest in a Water separator system to ensure you don't end up stranded. Cheers to more progress 😎
Another great video Shawn. One thing I especially like in your showings is the way you show that "Good Life Fit_ _ _ _" gym bag. You could not be living any better life for all around fitness than what your doing. (mental & physical) That gym bag looks to be right in its element! 👍👍
Well done and carefully filmed. I built a 10 X 24 boat shed and ignored the rules about burying posts to avoid frost heaves. I live in Maine with a 4-5 foot frost line. I put the building up on leveled concrete blocks. It’s been 35 years and it has not moved! Sometimes you have to experiment and go with what feels right.
Shawn the old timers would use a 50/50 mix of used motor oil and diesel fuel! They would slather it all over the post and then they would use roofing tar to permanently seal the post but they wouldn’t put any tar on the ends of the posts so that water could escape down into the ground! My grandfather’s homestead was built using this method and there’s posts in the ground that have been there for well over 60 years and no rot whatsoever!
This was a beautiful video. I know how hard you worked on this, especially since videoing doubles the time on everything you do. Just know you are an amazing man.
I absolutely love watching you building your new home. Wow it’s amazeing to see you continue creating your new cabin .god bless stay safe…I say u still need a furry companion ..your the best blogger out here.looking good in the neighborhood
And the Olympic medal for speed saw horse build , goes to the Canadian......Shawn bear man . Congratulations sir , magnificent performance. 😅😂. Another great video Shawn cheers mate from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 🎉
@cabinriveroutdoors and we love our mates up north , thx for the reply , joined your patreon but no link to donate yet , all good patiencently waiting and hoping , mate 👍, I'd love to help out .. Can I direct you to a RUclips channel called , Chris Bamman , he's Aussie and just as genuine as you mate . Builds some awesome bush stuff , camps in wild SthE Australian locations, check him out , also mate dont stop talking to yourself , it's cool and solves problems and entertains .
My husband and I have become addicted to your show. When the world is crazy, I find it a great escape so thank you! I was fascinated when you steamed the chicken in the skunk cabbage because I didn’t know you could do that. I looked it up because I wanted to see what the web had to say and found that it can actually be fatally toxic. You may want to research this a little more before you do this again just to verify. You’re the hardest working guy on the internet so keep up the good work. See you in the next episode!
Seafoam is a carburetor mechanic in a can. You can use it in a gas or diesel engines. I also put it in the oil for all my small engines and my vehicles. Keep up the good work.
Hey Shawn As always, I love your videos and the incredible effort you put into keeping your viewers coming back. It is because of you and only you this happens. Your construction methods are so excellent for being a one man show. Keep safe and I look forward to next Thursday’s video. You are living the dream I could only wish. I am 71, so you are living my dream. Love it Don from Edmonton 😊
This is like watching a mini series, I'm loving the build and the river and the animals. You need a dog with you; one that listens to your commands, but is a good watch dog that doesn't roam off and is not afraid of your working noises. Like saws etc, well something to think about. Love your videos and watch many more than once. Bye from Michigan have a good one.
Don't worry man, you are way more skilfull than you think, you realize that most humans would not be able to do what you're doing, right? The house will hold, it will keep you warm and if you in the future wanna change something, you can do it, and you will have fun doing it!
Your attention to detail means you’re going to have the nicest little cabin in the area. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Hello Shawn how are you doing the cabin is looking great one person doing all this work that’s a lot I hope you have great week here from Ontario Canada ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦😎
If it can go wrong, it WILL go wrong. I love some Seafoam. I put it in everything and it keep them running great. The only other thing I do is keep a list of carburetor models for all of my equipment. If Seafoam can't fix it, a replacement carb usually can. They're cheaper than a rebuild kit these days. We've just finished up 2 years on our off-grid house build and got our certificate of occupancy TODAY... (We've been living in it as we've built, so it was just some paperwork showing we no longer needed a building permit). The inspector asked us if we'd be interested in doing some building for him. But the wife and I are just too old (63 and 67) to try anything like this again ourselves. Take a look at some of our vids and let us know what you think! We're pretty proud of what we managed to accomplish by ourselves!
By the way, food wise, consider getting yourself a cast iron Dutch oven that you can load up with beans, lentils, stew, even bread and slowly cook over the day over a small fire.
Shawn, the best hour I spend every week is watching the newest episode of Cabin River Outdoors. The Discovery channel has nothing on you.
Haha. Wow. What a compliment. Flattered

I just saw a new one come out an hour ago. Will be watching that in a bit.
I can’t believe how much I like your channel. I’m old but an adventurous by nature and Canadian. Watch and wait for the next video.
I can agree with that. I'm just scared of the Bears, mountain lions... Often thinking he hasn't looked around recently.😮
Thumbs up everyone it help Shawn’s channel

So who do you think wins this year? Dub or Timber?
@@TC72280808 I like all the remaining contestants, Timber has to be hot favourite though
I have a simular story Shawn was my Nieghbor a few years back.
Cutting and hauling that center beam was impressive.

Great video. You are the real deal. It’s so impressive how quickly you’re building things. Keep up the great work and be safe out there.
I really enjoy watching you work through problems and solving them. Your work is really good. I am proud of you Shawn.....................
Great content Shawn , i love seeing all the support and love for this channel , stay safe out there and looking forward to next video .

That nail gun is a champ! Saves you tons of time!
Sounds like a fouled plug, keeping a set of new plugs in the boat could save your bacon !
...and whatever tools (socket and ratchet) are required to replace the plugs. And, maybe a bottle of Seafoam. 😄
Look forward to these every week. Like the thinking out loud…
Best video so far. Your editing is getting better and better! Keep up the good work! 🙂
We can tell you are putting a lot of effort into filming and your editing has improved so much. What a video. Thank you.

It's crazy how a 300 pound bear will climb a tree to get away from a 30 pound dog. My heeler's treed at least 8 bears.
He does so much long distance traveling, including by air, it would be a challenge to properly take care of a dog.
My 40lb Ragdoll cat has chashed off a good sized yearling bear..he just puffed up and he screams..lol😊❤😊
I know the dog would be very near the top of the “to do” list for me that’s for sure
Great weekly vids love the thought of being out on your own piece of property building a cabin !!! Good on you!!!
32k followers already? Keep it up brother. You are such a fun watch. Love seeing the channel grow.

Looking like a cabin !!!! Keep up the great work !!! Sure love the area....
Love it. Really enjoying the journey
