Hi Chris! Joe from Rochester, NY. Great video! Is there a way to (trim or increase) selected automation using the range selection tool by 1 db at a time using a keyboard shortcut? I have played with the Project Logical Editor, no luck. I see a preset for trim by 10% but not specifically 1 db increments.

  • @iam-music

Great work Chris...I was wondering if you could expand this type of tutorial to cover Logical Editor and apply to automation eg You can compress velocities in midi events by applying eg 0.25 to get 4:1 compression...would be very cool...not only to scale, which moves the whole lot but be able to iteratively apply eg 1.25:1 to calm fader movements etc using a threshold...just a thought?

    3) enable "Show used automation automatically"
    4) set bigger PPQ

Is there a way yet to draw automation over multiple tracks the way that logic and pro tools allows? For example, selecting identical automation over adjacent tracks, and drawing it in one movement, with a mouse, without using additional VCA faders? That has been a workflow killer for me in cubase, and it has kept me from making a switch.

Thank you for the video Chris! I was wondering if you or anyone in the comments could help me with a workaround for the following issue in cubase...
Often times when I am working on a production I get to a point where i am decently into a mix and then the artist wants to re record a part. The problem I run into is that the inserts that I have used cause lets say 40-60ms of latency. Is there an option to disable the insert (like in pro tools) instead of just bypassing (which doesn't reduce latency) The only way so far that I have found to get rid of this latency is to delete the insert off of the channel which is kind of inconvenient when moving quickly with a client.
Any insight would be much appreciated!

    Hi Chris!
At first thanks for the video. I am still confused about the Cubase Pro behaviour of the "touch-automation".
Why the touch-automation is working in a different way then in Nuendo?
Sadly it is not possible to use the touch-automation as written in the Cubase Pro/Nuendo manual.
    From the manual:
“Touch: Writes automation data as long as you touch a parameter control, punches out when you release the control, and then sets the control to the previously set value.”
Right now the written automation does not jump back to the previously set value which is really annoying.
Why this is not working as described? Right now it is acting more like a latch mode.
So, some other pro users told me that this is a reported bug which should be fixed in version 11.
I am not sure right now - maybe you know more about it?!?

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  2 года назад +1

You're right, it doesn't work like on Nuendo, you need to have an automation point already for it to work. I don't mind that, but it would be nice to at least have to option to change it as described in the manual.

Thanks for sharing, that's good to know! Maybe by bringing up the Reduction Level to get less Automation Points, will be easier on the cpu.

Concerning Tipp #2: Isnt it way easier to use a gain plugin?

It does the same thing, but this feature is good for all types of Automations and not only Volume automation. I did this with Volume Automation cause it's easier to understand the concept that way, but you can use Trim on a Frequency Band Automation of an EQ plugin for example :-)

thanks for the video! very clear. i didn't really understand the trim mode before. another way to find your desired automation lane is to click + to add one, click the title, and just type in the search box what you need to find, or select it in the tree. but i think that the reveal option, or right clicking the control when possible is probably the fastest method.

If you want to raise or lower a track's volume over all but keep the relative volume automation you have done earlier, I think the answers in the video is not quite satisfactory. I would like to do that with a fader, not selecting ranges and modify with mouse wheel etc. A better answer can be to create a VCA fader, if you have Cubase pro. With that you can change the over all volume without messing with the previous volume automation.

A group track could also be a possibility. Just remember to to have effect returns in the same group track.

Good observation, if you use Scale Vertically like shown in this video, that will be very close to Relative Volume Automation since it uses percentage values. A VCA fader is also a good option like you mention, but on my side, I never use a VCA Fader to control only one channel. If I only need to change automation by a few dbs, I don't care much if the automation stays to absolute values ;) That could be a good topic for a future video.

Reduction is pathetic in cubase, setting it before you write there's no relevance unless you keep reperforming it over and over.
Just a slider afterwards to adjust number of points like other daws would be nice.

I'm sorry, but you talk too fast and move the curser too quickly. I can't keep up with you.
