I requested time off work so that I can kill-it on Booktubeathon. I'm so ready!!
That's commitment!!!
The Romeo & Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes is my favorite movie of all time! Highly recommend that one. Can't wait to participate in BookTubeathon!
Baz Luhrmann's version of Romeo and Juliet is amazing, it is done in such a beautiful way, has a great soundtrack and is definitely one of my favorites, so you should totally watch that one (and young Leo DiCaprio playing Romeo is a plus💕).
If you haven't seen this version yet, it is a must! I second about the soundtrack. Great movie.
Definitely agree, that's my favorite version by far!
On sparknotes you have the modern version next to the old English so it's easier to read (you can buy those in paperback too) so if it's too difficult you can also read that version :)
Romeo + Juliet the Leonardo Dicaprio one. We watched in school while we read it . They speak in the same kind of English in which the books are written in 😁
!968 version is great, but the most interesting is Romeo + Juliet (which is weird but I like a lot). You can also always stretch the rules and watch West Side Story.
If you want an accurate/period Romeo & Juliet, there was an adaptation made in like 1968 that's true to the story. Or, of course, if you want a really fun, light-hearted adaptation, you could go for the modernized Romeo+Juliet from 1996, including a great scene where one of the characters is in drag.
So excited for BTAT 2016. Trying to maneuver my TBR so that it fulfills all the challenges is always super fun for me, and I always love putting together my TBR video as well. I filmed yesterday, and will probably upload tomorrow!
Watch the 1996 Romeo+Juliet movie, it has the same original dialogue as the play and its got a cool aesthetic and a modern twist.
I'm very partial to the Baz Luhrmann's 1996 Romeo + Juliet myself, but mostly for shallow reasons such as Leo DiCaprio and Paul Rudd.
I personally love the Baz Luhrmann "Romeo + Juliet", I love all his films. also, if you wanted to check out a shorter adaptation, "The Fosters" had an episode featuring a "Romeo + Juliet" rock musical, and it was pretty great, I really liked it. the music was stuck in my head the rest of the day.
I love The-Booktube-a-Thon! It's such a great event to look forward to every summer for both booktubers and booktube viewers. Thanks so much for all the hard work and effort you put into it. I know it's probably a lot and a bit stressful but it really has a huge impact on this community and there are so many people out here that love and appreciate it! Good luck on your reading and organizing! Thanks again Ariel!
Omg the Leonardo DiCaprio Romeo and Juliet is so good and creative. Great music too.
3 videos in 3 days? YES PLEASE! 😍
The Zeffirelli's adaptation of Romeo and Juliet is perfect 😍👌🏻
I loved the Baz Luhrman's Romeo+Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio because it has such an original and modern way to look at the story. And also the 2013 movie is beautiful in a far more traditional way. They are both amazing ! I am so excited to join the Booktube-a-thon for the very first time !!
The Romeo and Juliet adaptation movie with Douglass booth is so good. It's almost word for word from the play and I highly recommend
I can't wait for the BookTubeAThon to begin!!
I'm so excited for the BookTube-A-Thon! I keep on looking at my TBR pile and itching to start it. I love that you're reading Romeo and Juliet! I personally love the 1990s move adaptation with Claire Dane and Leonoardo DiCaprio. It's super weird and ridiculous, but it's awesome and still a great adaptation.
Once you get into the swing of Shakespeare, you can read it quite quickly. I studied an whole subject on it at university and, by the fourth Shakespearean play, it was super easy to breeze through it :) Good luck with the BookTubeAThon!
omg the cover of that Romeo and Juliet edition is to die for!!!!!
I'm so pumped! I've got 3.5 hours until I can officially start reading for the BTAT. This is my 3rd one & I am just super excited for all that's to come this week! Thanks for running the show Ariel!
I love Shakespeare and Romeo & Juliet is my absolute favorite. One thing that helps when reading is to read it out loud or at least mouth the words as you read. It helps you get the rhythm of the lines down and for me that helps to understand it a lot better.
Also the best adaption of it is the Leo one hands down. I had the movie memorized before I read the book.
I discovered the existence of this literally yesterday while binge watching booktube videos! I've now picked my books and I'm good to go! X
these past two weeks have been so draining and horrible, and your positivity and excitement is just wonderful to see, ariel.
thanks for these videos and i hope your booktube-a-thon goes awesome.
as for a romeo and juliet adaptation, i would recommend "private romeo". it's a gay romance. it's a weird, quirky film. i saw it a long time back so i don't remember how good it was. but definitely unique and a great acting aswell.
Romeo +Juliet I definitely the best adaptation that I've seen! It is super weird but also super good! (Or if you want something entirely less serious you could watch Gnomeo and Juliet!)
Your enthusiasm is always so contagious! 😚
This sounds like loads of fun! If I wasn't in school right now, I would totally love to participate. Good luck everyone! :)
The Baz Luhrmann Romeo and Juliet adaptation is one of my all time favorite movies!!
I'm one of those nerds who loves EVERY adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, but just because no one else has mentioned it I'm going to suggest the 2013 version with Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld. The language has been adapted toward modern English ever so slightly, but the costumes are gorgeous, the acting is wonderful, and I just really appreciate the casting and how stunning the film is visually.
This is my first booktubeathon and I'm so excited! Ever since I discovered BookTube earlier this year booktubeathon is the main thing I've been waiting for!!! ❤️😆
Thank you so much for putting this read-a-thon, because I am finding so many booktubers through their tbr videos. I love it! So many books to explore!
YAY I'm so glad you combined the challenges, too hahaha. GREAT TBR... I'm so eager to hear your thoughts on literally all of these books, especially A.S. King! And OMG that edition of R&J is so beautiful... :)
'You see it on BookTube, then you gotta do the research' SO ACCURATE
YEAAHH ! BOOKTUBEATHON !!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I AM SO EXCITED FOR BOOKTUBE-A-THON!! I just filmed by TBR video and I can not wait to read all of the books!
Yellow in the cover? Thats it.. I'm sold.
Yay booktube-a-thon! I'm so excited! :D
I think i'm gonna throw together a last minute tbr and low-key participate
I'm thankful for the work you and many others put into it!!! This is my first year on BookTube and I'm sooo excited to participate!
My favorite Romeo and Juliet adaptation is the one with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes! It's so good!
For Romeo and Juliet adaptations, Romeo + Juliet is a fab modern-ish adaptation using the old language (Leo DiCaprio! Claire Danes! Neon Jesus!) and Warm Bodies is a looser adaptation where Romeo IS A ZOMBIE, so I would recommend both for your movie adaptation!
YES BOOKTUBE-A-THON! I am sooooo freaking excited, wahooooo! I absolutely adore the 1996 movie adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. Excited to hear your thoughts and which movie you chose!
Im so excited to take part in the booktubeathon this year. I have my books picked out. I hope I can complete all of the challenges.
For Romeo and Juliet the 1960s film by Franco Zeffirelli is my favourite. It's such a classic movie, not as well known as the 1990s modern adaptation but just gorgeous to watch :)
I'm so excited for the booktubeathon! I can't wait to see what you think of these books, hopefully you manage to complete your goal. The challenges are especially great this year... Again, sooo excited!!😊
I'm going to be apart of Booktube-a-thon this year!!! Yay! And this is my first year doing it so I'm super super excited!! :D
I'm so, so excited for the Booktubeathon! Can't wait to hear what you think of all the books you're reading :)
Also, your shirt is AMAZING.
Your hair looks so pretty! And With Malice sounds so interesting. I'm excited to see how you like it
Looking forward to the next videos! I challenged myself to read more in order to complete the Goodreads challenge. I looked for shorter books, so after I finished a 700 page book, I naturally bought a 1000 pages book (that did not go well). I feel you with Shakespeare, my native language is not English. In addition, I get distracted by all the endnotes as well! Happy reading!
You are so positive and your videos makes me so happy!
Best of luck with your reading and thanks as always for continuing to host such a fun event!
Private Romeo is an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet that I absolutely love. It's set in a military training academy and all of the characters are played by guys.
That edition of Romeo & Juliet is so beautiful!! I'm excited to hear your thoughts on the new A.S. King novel!!
I am and I am super psyched about it! 🎉📚🎉📚
Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet with Claire Danes and Leonardo Di Caprio is fantastic
I am totally participating! I cannot wait for this BookTube-A-Thon! It is my first one and I am just so excited!
Romeo + Juliet starring Leo Dicaprio and Claire Danes!! Definitely the best adaptation I've seen.
The Romeo and Juliet adaptation I love, is the one with Leonardo DiCaprio. Also the director did The Great Gatsby 2013 version 😊
This is going to be my first time doing BookTube-A-Tho and IM SO HYPE
OMG! I have to know where you got that adorable shirt! With Malice was fun, I hope you enjoy it!
Good luck with your reading!! :D
im really excited its my first book tube a thon and i hope i can do it ✊
With Malice is on my Booktubeathon TBR too!!! I'm so excited to get to it.
IM SO EXCITED!!! This booktubeathon happens right after my 18th birthday
I'm participating for the first time this year and I'm so excited, thank you Ariel for organizing such a cool readathon & putting so much passion into it :) ♥
Watch the Leonardo DiCaprio version of Romeo and Juliet! Apparently, while the setting is different, it's one of the more "accurate" depictions of the play (Plus, it's really beautiful)
Romeo and Juliet is also an opera! I've seen the French one by composer Gounod, but there's another one I think by an English or maybe Italian composer (I can't remember). But if you want to try something different, watch that! There are plenty of videos on RUclips and you could find one with English subtitles. It's very emotional and I enjoyed it more than the book and any movie version of Romeo and Juliet that I've seen.
Ooooh the R&J 1968 version is SO GOOD. Also- there's a newer one that came out with Hailee Steinfeld that I loved!!!
Yeah, like most everyone else has said... the Leo/Claire R+J is A+. I definitely think it's a good counter to the original.
Great TBR Ariel. I like your strategy very reasonable
I can't wait!! I'm so pumped!!
I'm so excited for next week to begin. It's my first year and I'm ready for the fun. I'm so glad that you chose to combine challenges and only picked three books like I did because I was starting to think that maybe I should have picked seven books like everybody else...
I love the BookTube-A-Thon! Thirs time participating!
new to booktube... didn't know that she created it. so cool!
I am so excited to take part in the Booktubeathon for the 3rd time! :D
I'm so excited for this readathon!!
i suggest the 1960s adapatation, because of the old time-y costumes and old time-y movie feel ☺👇
Great TBR! I'm so excited! Obviously you're not expected to read as much when you are, ya know, RUNNING THE ENTIRE THING! Haha. Definitely give yourself some slack on that. You always do an awesome job.
just learned about this but sure as heck going to participate! I am very excited!
Baz Luhrman's R&J adaptation is the best.
#late
This looks like a fun TBR! I hope you complete it I personally enjoyed the Leonardo Dicaprio Romeo and Juliet film. It's a cool adaptation and twist, but I know some people hated it so just go into it being ready for something different.
My TBR includes:
Out of Easy (book with yellow on cover and by fav author)
Friends with Boys (book after sunset.) (it's a graphic novel so should be easy to finish)
Mrs. Peregrines (Book found through Booktube - Jesse)
Pride and Prejudice (book that's older than you and book to movie adaptation)
Those are my main goals. If I finish those, I'll just pick up whatever I feel like.
Oh cool, I just made the 600th "like" on this video! 👍. I'm really looking forward to the Readathon. Thank you, Ariel, for all your hard work pulling this together!
I would definitely recommend watching the Leo DiCaprio adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. We just watched it last year in my English class and I really enjoyed it! It's a great modern take and reality of the play but still keeping the same lines :)
Loving the hair style...your curls are poppin...On a different note, I shall participate this year cause why not? Why not add on to my 1 million things to do list
Your reading style is completely different than mine, but it gives me a different perspective than what I'm used to and broadens my horizons!
This is going to be my second time doing booktubeathon and I can't wait
depending on how true to the play you want to get the 1968 Romeo and Juliet is fantastic and is even done in the original language, other wise leo and clairs 1996 version is a great one as well.
I watched the Romeo and Juliet adaptation with Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth, and I really enjoyed it!
Can't wait! This is my first year participating.
The 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet is the best one!
I am participating this year. It's actually the first time I'm doing it, so I'm excited. I even started a RUclips channel to post videos.
I LOVE your jumper!
I am! :D and I also have three books to read for my official booktube-a-thon TBR. If i can get through those and still have some tie left, i'll just pick up something else that i might feel like reading at that moment.
I recommend "Pivate Romeo". Just because it is a very alternative version.
so excuted for booktubeathon! it's quite a challenge for me because it's my second readathon in a row (almost done with make me read it readathon) but I couldn't miss it!
I Love Romeo and Juliet! I think it's one of the easier Shakespeare plays and you should be able to get through it quickly :) a great adaption is the one by Paramount publish in 1968!
first time participating and I'm so so so excited !!
First of all, your shirt just made my day.
Hmmm, Romeo and Juliet adaptation? There's one that was made in the 60's that is quite good. I just put up my own tbr -- I'm so pumped.
Good luck!
The Leo DiCaprio adaption, it's hilarious and awesome
For me, the best adaptation of Romeo and Juliet is the one from 1968, but the newest one is good too, this one with Hailee Steinfeld, Ed Westwick and Douglas Booth.
I hope you like them.
:D
