  • Hey everyone and welcome back to Iowa Classic Cars! We have a 1960 oldsmobile dynamic 88 two door hardtop today that we are going to work on. This car came from inner-city chicago and was free, but has some engine issues that we will address. Its sad that the car is so rusty and neglected, but it makes it even more worth it to rescue a car in this kind of shape that was destined for the junkyard! Make sure to stick around for future videos on this 60 olds, and if you enjoy old car videos make sure to subscribe for more!
    Thanks for watching!

Dude, are you kidding? She runs, drives, stops, actually has working brake lights, she’s not that rough my man. Right was that 59 that folded in half when you pulled it out of the Tara one and tried to trailer it. That’s rough. This baby is a jewel!! If the frame isn’t junk, that’s a fixer upper for sure. Excellent video Ryan. Big Al.

This old girl absolutely needs to be saved, by someone with metal fab skills. It is a rare body style. I've seen guys save Chevy's in worse shape and this is a way better car.
Engine is a 371 (gold color) 394's were aqua and most were 4BBL's. Rochester 4GC
Yes, I have a ton of experience with these, if anyone buys it and wants help.
Did you see Scott at Coldwar Motors save that '60 Plymouth Fury?? Convince me that this is worse.
Please do not part this out, The steering wheel is the coolest example ever from Olds. Kustom guys fight over them.
Engines can have oil pump and rocker shaft problems, but overall built tough.

She’s really cool! Correct me if I’m wrong - Oldsmobile did *not* use the cheesy X-frame? What kind of shape are the frame and floor/trunk pans in? Someone with good DIY bodywork and metal fabrication skills could make a great car out of it. Lots of potential! But if you had to pay to have it restored, it’s probably not worth it. I think GM made an error in eliminating so many of their original name plates. In different eras, different GM divisions kept the common coffers stuffed. It was Chevrolet in the fifties and early sixties especially ,but always remained a staple.. It was Pontiac in the late sixties and early seventies. It was Oldsmobile in the late seventies to the late eighties. (The G body Olds Cutlass was wildly popular as were the Olds sports jobs in the seventies) It was Pontiac and Geo in the nineties. Buick just happened to be taking it's turn at being the popular GM brand when the company decided that it needed to drop some nameplates. I don't think they gave any more thought to it than that. Otherwise, I think Pontiac would have been the survivor instead of Buick.

@@IowaClassicCars that’s the thing, I have the trailer but no cash. I’m retired now so funds are tight, an don’t let anybody tell you when you retire you don’t have to work.

Thanks, Ryan! So great as always! Love those GM early 60s. That steering wheel is so much my dad's 62 Olds.

i'd say keep it whole, esp if the frame is solid. if you are driving it 70 down the highway, then its decent. maybe some of the chevy sheet metal will transfer over as far as inner structure. if nothing else, it would be an awesome hotrod.

What’s the point of rescuing it if your not going to do anything with it. Make it pretty again. No rat rod or patina crap.

We had a 60 olds super 88 4 dr sedan growing up. Got it from my grandfather, original owner, around 1965 and had it until around 1974. In Massachusetts and it rusted out just as bad or worse than what you got. The rust got so severe that we junked it. Drive train was awesome, always fired up These are such great cars. If the frame is good maybe it can go to someone that can fix the rust on their own. If too expensive or too far gone to fix rust probably part it out or sell to someone with a good body that can use the parts. Love that fluid speedometer. Ours had that speed warning also. Once my Dad drove it at 120 mph with my brother and I sticking our heads out the window saying go faster Daddy, go faster. Well he did and busted the speedo and it never worked again.

That looks restorable. If the frames bad a Buick or Pontiac or even Chevy frame will work. You don't see alot of 60's Oldsmobiles , especially a 2dr. Body work shouldn't be to hard to fix.
