the chemistry gives me goosebumps even after 27 years. there something of the gauche teenager when he is around her. he just looks super keen, awkward but trying to look cool. and he actually does look cool, he is a cool man and a super keen boy in turn. She is this wonderful combination of vamp and vulnerable. the two of them together look like love; all of its vulnerabilities and awkwardnesses and greatness touching the face of eternity.
This was when Nick Cave looked like one of those pitiful middle aged men trying to be hip to impress a younger girlfriend. He lost all his street cred in my opinion becuase of this behaviour. It was very sad to witness, epsecially after he turned to religion to cope with his heartbreak after she dumped him.
You think he's been turning to religion for almost 30 years because of their breakup? lol She's stunning and talented - she delivers to this day, but I am sure he got over her @@maasaigeordie
That deep full voice, she makes me wanna cry. Memories pouring on me, late nights in dark bars, full of smoke, me and my best friend just in silence, drunk listening to the music. It seems like it was a different life, different me....
Bullseye, i guess - whatever it means, it's the coolest way to end such a brilliant stage performance, and if you're right, also a strange reflection of the lyrics. Obviously unforgettable.
Love these classic 90s tracks with that catchy chorus and that gut churning hook. I've always been a manic depressive with mood swings, and hated life at the best of times. But, in all honesty, I am grateful to have lived through the best and most progressive and predominantly moody years in musical history.
As an American, sometimes I think back to a time when I could really only see shit like this if I was up past 12AM watching MTV, or still watching NBC or CBS after the 11 O'Clock news wrapped. And when you watched it, you either taped it off the VCR or you let it slip into the annals of time, only retaining some mildly-inaccurate version of it in your memories. I never thought in a million years I'd be watching those television performances again, let alone those from like British/European, Brazilian, Japanese television etc etc. I know it's been said a million times over here on RUclips by its users, but I don't know, sometimes I'm blown away by it.
Thank God for people who obsessed over capturing everything about their favorite artists on every medium possible. I never had that much drive about it, but I am glad I can go back and relive the 80's and 90's because its been a desert of entertainment for the last 15 years.
@@gringofett3944 We did a lot of taping in my family growing up. In retrospect, we focused way too much time and energy on recording movies off Cinemax or HBO, not realizing how widely accessible these films would be in the near future. I think back to times when I'd be frantically setting a timer on the VCR because like "Virtuosity" or whatever was coming on and now I don't know how to feel about it.
I went to Rough Trade in Neal's Yard back in the day and she was sitting in the corner playing to nobody, except me. We had a coffee and a chat and she signed her debut album for me using a gold pen. Technically I class that as a date, and you can't say it isn't.
Real music Nick Cave I can not understand his pain of losing his son..He shares his pain you cannot be a fan and not understand the reality of life. A real musician you hear the pain.I saw her years ago at Manchester Appollo in 2011 9:38 was a bit empty on the night but she stripped you to the bone .PJ Harvey live is a crash course in life 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Love Nick. Great writer and performer. And suffered so much personal grief losing two of his three sons. Heart breaking. Still he keeps going. What else is there to do.
Yes, PJ in the audience dancing to Stagger Lee is great. And I also like guitarist Blixa Bargeld (right side) of the Einstürzende Neubauten. There he is the master and head of the band, and the main performer. And here with the Bad Seeds he is "only" one guitarist of the band and let Nick get all the attention. Nice (and by the way: I didn't know he could play guitar. In the beginning of the Neubauten early 80s they use EVERYTHING to make music - except real instruments :-)
I saw NC. do his Birthday Party farewell gig in London (some big, old ornate theatre along the Strand). There I was in a midsummer heatwave in my black leather trenchcoat and black pvc. strides and suede pointy boots 😅. Neubauten were support act and proceeded to play a set with most of band on pneumatic drills on steel plate they had laid over the stage. Amped up.. it was the noisiest noisy thing. This was a few weeks after they did a gig at the London ICA in the basement where they dispensed with the steel plate and dug up the concrete floor slab. They were in trouble for that.
perfect duo completely obsessed with p.j. in the day.. played her all the time at home and at my haight street clothing store so much so that my staff protested eventually ... and never got into the music of Nick Cave but somehow always loved him anyway it's the same with the director John Waters, never could get into his films, but always loved his thing anyway
Amo Nick Cave... La colonna sonora della mia vita... Musica che ti ruba il cuore 💜🔥✨✨✨ Amo la sua folle genialità, mistero e fascino.... E in questo pezzo mi fa impazzire l'urlo di Blixa Bargeld 🤩😁😎
Thank you ScottishTeeVee. You have an incredible archive of material and I really appreciate your content. I've always admired Nick Cave, especially this period. I remember watching this on TV. Saw Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds live many times. Great memories.
I love these two and i didn't live through the 90s but hello?? "Grunge" happened. Nirvana released one of the most iconic albums ever. Radiohead released OK Computer. Jeff Buckley released Grace. The whole britpop thing also happened. Oasis. The garage rock revival that went into the late 2000s. Wdym nothing else happened? 💀💀💀
What a hauntingly beautiful voice, great accompaniment to Nick Cave andThe Bad Seeds. Plus can never get to much of Stagger Lee performed live. Going to look up my favourite I've seen so far right now, the Glastonbury performance of it.
I have days where Stagger lee is my favourite song of all time and other days where it isn't even my fave nick cave tune but God almighty that outro gets me every time
PJ Harvey often looks weird in photos and I think she likes to play on that weirdness. But when you see her in motion, as in performing live she suddenly transforms. The truth is... she's fucking gorgeous!!!
This was on TV!?! I'm in the USA and can't believe Nick Cave used the word "motherfucker" about 100 times on a TV show. Also, for a while I thought Nick and PJ might be the same person. Now I finally see them both in the same place at the same time so that nixes that theory.

Nowdays nobody shut the fuck up during songs
Each of them truly unique artists, together one of the most alluring couples ever.
Just watching PJ Harvey with Nick Cave....just amazing...they seem born to be together...
Yes, probably in the other life
The way he looks at her and the way she smiles at the end... that's love right there.

It is very interesting to know what nick had to say about PJ after they parted .

Tu li hai vissuti in quegli anni, ma questa roba e' sempre contemporanea, stilosa e bellissima
I love your post but had to laugh about the 'catchy chorus' of this song
