      I would recommend adding a pneumatic foot pedal between the compressor and the water reservoir. It helps to control the speed and volume of mist, so you can apply only when the steel makes contact with the belt and you don't end up drenching your workspace especially if you're using a toolrest/ grinding jig. The foot pedals can be had on Amazon for $20-30 and very easily integrated into the air line.

      @@merwat Honestly, that's way overkill. I only use this when I'm doing bevels and there's a water bucket directly below the grinder so there's no mess at all. The toolrest got just as wet by dunking the workpiece when I didn't have the misting system. Thanks for the thought, though!

    I would not have thought a misting system like this would have provided enough cooling for a blade, but I guess I would have been wrong! Seems like this would be very useful when freehanding a bevel, as you could keep the same angle more reliably if you weren't dunking the blade in water every several passes.

    I first saw a mister just like that on a walter sorrels video a couple years ago or so, it looks pretty awesome.
    Im curious though, have you tried grinding with it yet? Does the belt running at normal speeds hold enough water to sling it around mist your face or does it all go down into the bucket? I've heard someone mention this problem before but wasn't sure if you could just control it with the pressure of water or belt speed.

    • @TyrellKnifeworks

      I have used it. I was worried about the same thing but I’m getting zero water in the face. You can adjust the spray power and water flow so it’s really easy to control. I love it! You’ll see it in use in this Sunday’s build video! 👍

    Very cool. Air line fittings have become more complicated. There is a "T" also an "I/M" in the male and same in the female but the female also has a "U" this one is universal and will work with either male connector. Took me a while to figure out. Good luck.

    I have an 8 gallon compressor. I have held off on getting one of these because I was afraid my compressor would be running constantly. I noticed you only had a little 3 gallon. Are you having any issues with it keeping up?

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  3 года назад

      It depends on how much flow you have set on the mister. I haven't used it all that much yet so I'll have to see. It might run the compressor a lot but I would generally only use this when I'm doing bevels (and copper!!) so I don't mind if it runs the compressor. Thanks for checking it out!

    • @joshyingling
      @joshyingling 3 года назад +1

      Yeah I would run it on my 80 gallon compressor because those pancakes don’t tolerate heat for too long. We use that exact compressor everyday for pressurizing pool plumbing lines and they usually last just under a year and fry, some last longer but they don’t do well without a break, I’d imagine if you are just grinding a knife it wouldn’t wear it out because you wouldn’t use it constantly. If you were a production shop that would be a different story
