Hi my name is Danielle, welcome to my True Crime and Makeup series! I’ve been interested in true crime for the longest time now, what started with me watching true crime on TV with my Nan from a young age eventually turned into studying for a degree in Law & Criminology.

hearing that robert is still in that glass cage to this day actually made me cry. he did everything he could do to get help and warned everyone what he would do if he wasn’t helped and no one listened. he does not deserve such cruel treatment. and the prison and justice system giving him the worst punishment i’ve ever heard of for killing pedophiles while pedos are let off the hook with only a slap on the wrist regularly makes me sick to my stomach
Seriously though why is that so often the case. Too often. The dirty paedo aliens being given carte blanche. Devil in control of some of our judges in the world. Our laws are meaningless in serious crime.

The fact that he had to stay in solitary confinement for 40 years when majority of his trauma started from solitary confinement when he was a kid is crazy. He recieved a way harsher puishment than we could even imagine.
That’s a great point, oh my god. I totally forgot about that he was locked in his room as a kid when so much of the abuse happened. That’s heartbreaking.
He shouldn’t be In solitary confinement in my opinion those attacks he did were because of incompetence on the part of the guards

Every system of this entire case failed this man. My heart honestly hurt for him. Murder is never excusable but he was crying for help for YEARS.
Robert probably saved more lives than he took, this poor man who went through so much was only in his way, trying to protect others from what was done to him. His mental state was so fragile and for him to face this type of punishment is so inhumane. So revolting that actual pedos/child killers still get less punishment than he has and usually aren’t even caught.
And when they are caught it's a light slap. But this person who asked for help and didn't get it, who never did anything to anyone other than pedophiles, has spent so much more time than pedophiles do in prison. It's so so sad.

Look up the Alaskan Avenger. They gave him 20something yrs for beating pedos. I think the last 1 died. He luckily just got 10yrs off his sentence due to public outrage. Meaning, w/ enough pressure this man's conditions may be improved. That pressure got him in that box. It can get him out of it. Politicians don't like looking like monsters.
This is probably the first time I've had empathy for a serial killer. The torture the state alone has inflicted on him aside from his horrific childhood trauma is horrendous.

As Danielle pointed out numerous time, there’s no way that guards and nurses didn’t know what was happening. They chose to ignore it and they were damn right to do so. After the extreme torture he went through as a child I cant say I’m surprised that he ended up messed up :( he tried so hard to be good and to get help. He was failed his whole life
He didn't fail; the system failed him. Coming from such violent and sexual abuse, I think he turned out well. He was a Dexter; he didn't randomly kill anybody. In addition, he handed himself in. he needs more humane treatment.

As a survivor of child sex abuse, thank you to this man. My abuser is still out there living his life, and these kinds of stories leave me feeling thankful that someone was brave enough to give justice in MY eyes. Pedophiles dont deserve air.

yep, my abuser is walking free and living normal but I get always get comments from family about how I should "share my story, it will help others" but...who was there to help me? He did some pretty fucked up shit but I don't feel sad that we lost a couple of predators who did nothing good in the world.

Maybe I'm a bad person, but I feel very bad for Robert. Being in solitary confinement will make a normal person go insane. I can only imagine what all those years did to him. He had none to communicate with, but the voices in his head. His punishment was exceptionally cruel.

This case is actually so sad for Robert himself. He tried to get help, he didn't want to be the dangerous person that he his trauma shaped him into. The video of him talking about loneliness at the end made me so sad for him. He was a victim of predators, the healthcare system, and the prison system.
This case honestly upsets me so much. This man has literally been begging for help his entire life. He belongs in prison for his crimes, but the treatment of him in prison is just outright abusive.

It’s infuriating that a man who has been abused his entire life, tried to seek help, openly said he would kill sex offenders has been locked up more than awful awful criminals. So many people out there torturing and sexually abusing children and get away with it. I do feel for this poor man. He didn’t even hide what he’d done from the officials. Clearly the justice system everywhere need to be updated and fixed
ABSOLUTELY! In my opinion authorities are the only one to blame for not taking such things seriously and ignoring it. Sure, it was different time, but for fricks sake, if anyone is telling me repeatedly that is hearing voices to kill someone (in this case parents and child sex offenders), and basically WARNING me about what can potentially happen, where is the logic in ignoring it, not taking such things seriously and be like "yeah , whatever. We'll be fine, sure, sure, have a nice day".
I feel like this is the guy that was a PRIME candidate for rehabilitation if they did it right. He was so self aware of his issues and mental hurdles and the fact that he reached out for help BEFORE he went on to do what he did speaks volumes. I understand the difficulty of murder is murder and there are consequences, but I also struggle to feel remorse for those he harmed... what a difficult one. I hope Robert finds peace and I'm glad his family is alongside him!
Yes! He's like a textbook rehabilitation opportunity. He's mentally ill but very aware of it and tried to stop himself.
If only social services all over the world was more active. I wish it would change but I would have to do something and make sure it’s accepted where possible.

As a CSA victim myself I can understand the trauma Robert went through and why he did what he did. It's just so crazy that he tried to get help but no one really helped him. And what really makes my blood BOIL is the fact that people who have done far worst than this man and get treated better. He's been locked in a glass box for 43 years when some serial killers have been released from jail even today! I feel so sorry for him.

Meanwhile child molesters and other sex offenders continue to get slaps on the wrist and are released back into society to hurt more people.

When I was in jail I was sitting In the hall with a man facing 40 yrs for killing the man to sexually assaulted his young niece and several other children.. he was waiting for transportation to court for his sentencing. A couple of older officers sat and prayed with him and thanked him for what he did saying that he saved so many children and then told him if they could get away with letting him go they would. They cried with him and consoled him and spoke to him with so much respect. It was wild to watch them ❤❤❤❤ think about it often…

Sad that he probably got life, while a child rapist who rapes several children gets only 7 years for raping children ages 8 months old to age 13 years old. Some heroes are never recognized.
It is a very difficult situation. I think if I were a guard, and the inmates were taking good care of a pedo, I would look the other way. It is slippery moral ground, but….the flip side is that if they are released, they start killing the kids to keep (in their minds) from ever going back. The only solution is automatic life/no parole for child sex offenders. There are folks arrested for dealing pot that served longer sentences than some of this garbage.
honestly this is the only serial killer i actually feel bad for because compared to other famous serial killers hes done so much less and got so much more of a punishment and the fact he also tried to ask for help multiple times and no one ever helped him says alot about the system

I do feel bad for a lot of killers because of their past but this is the first case that I honestly wasn’t even mad at what he did. It wasnt the typical “abused becoming the abuser”. He had a genuine purpose and I aint even mad at it. He even tried to get help which really surprised me. Thats more than you can say for most serial killers. He tried to get help, got let down, and at least he chose guilty victims.
And the prison system is doing more to protect sex offenders than it is doing to protect their victims out in the public. Sex offenders and violent murderers get released due to ‘overcrowding’ but this guy gets a special level of punishment. The amount of resources spent on this exercise alone would have been astronomical. And I really struggle to imagine public outrage at this guy for being kept only in standard solitary confinement and wanted him to be specially punished. Who were these people protesting? Prince Andrew!?

Solitary confinement is so heinous, it was outlawed in the US for a long time! It's outlawed in many first world countries, still - it literally causes you to go insane, and start seeing and hearing things. Not great for someone who already does...
Honestly, the only time I'm not mad at the serial killer. To me he was just doing what so many of us want to do to S.O. especially of children. And after all the horrific childhood trauma and being failed by so many, I feel genuine empathy for him.
Yea tbh the only thing that really makes him dangerous is it seems his mental health made him unable to control his rage once he's set off. But I'm not mad at how he decided to direct that, and I feel bad that none of the guards would even say hello passing by. I think they went overboard with his punishment. They could've just restricted who he comes in contact with so he isn't put with any sex offenders.

The thing about solitary confinement is that there is not one person on this planet who deserves it. I experienced solitary confinement for a couple days while on a psych ward (I'd said I was actively suicidal). I would never wish anything like it on anyone.

I've never once thought I'd actually root for the killer but being a victim of s3xual child abuse, here I am. Rooting for him.
I too am a child of sexual abuse and at 60 years old it still affects my life...with that said this man imo has saved a child from a lifetime of trauma! What they are doing to him is wrong. I never thought I would feel sympathy for a serial killer but this brought tears to my eyes. I pray there is a large enough outcry for this man that his circumstances change for the better.
I am also a child of sexual abuse, and I will be 60 this year. Yes, I am affected by this every minute of every day. The fact that those pedophiles are dead has saved untold numbers of children from possible harm inflicted by them. I do not believe that it justifies anyone murdering them. What if you or I killed them? Would we not deserve punishment for our crimes, just because we have been victims? These murders were so violent. Who is to say that in his mind, the next people to die wouldn't be other prisoners? He obviously has no control over his impulses. It doesn't even matter what CAUSED his lack of control. He is obviously a very dangerous person and the authorities don't want a repeat of a gruesome murder scene. Make no mistake, it was murder. I cannot feel sorry for him after hearing what he did to other human beings, no matter how vile those people were.

I've never wanted to be friends with/hug a serial killer, but as a victim of childhood s/a, I am really liking this guy, Robert. He's a hero who prevented lives of more children from being destroyed.
What bothers me is that Cheesman (the one who helped him in the murder of Francis) was in prison for raping a 16-year-old... Why did Maudsley not care about this then?

I also was s/a as a child and I always wanted someone to stop the abuse. To just come and beat the crap out of my abusers.
I’m 57 now and I still am effected by the abuse.
Same with me. I was s/a by my own father. I told my own mother and it was swept under the rug. I’m now 68 and it has affected me my whole life. I’ve been married 7 times and never could have a meaningful relationship with a man because memories would pop up and I would destroy the relationship I was in. I’m single now for 16 years and it’s better thus way. I don’t have the mental capacity to handle a healthy relationship with a man.

Edit: The offenders he’s killed in prison *were* likely still a risk to children, they usually only get about 3 years for destroying so many lives, potentially for generations to come. It’s not just the survivor that suffers.

I can tell you in my state it's not. I was abused by 2 different men.
And attempted abused by a 3rd.
First 2? No punishment or charges.EVER.
3rd guy? He was a janitor at an elementary school. He had been assaulting a friend of mine for years.
A fact I didn't know until he decided to shove his hand down my shirt at her place, I was 10/11 at the time. I took a brush to his hand and he removed it. She told me he had been molesting her for years at that point.
We went to my house and told my mom. She was terrified of telling her parents thinking she would be in trouble.
Nope her parents were livid! So much so the 5 of us went to the cops.
Charges were pressed and trial was set.
But the case was dropped.
Why? Because they moved to Georgia. Without her testimony, case was over.
That was in the early 1980s. He got his job back. I wonder, even after 40+ yrs how many victims does he have. Before and after me and friend.
And in case anyone thinks I don't know my first time being abused I was 5! He was 12. It was 1 time with him.
2nd abuser? Started when I was 8! Went on for over 3 years! His reasoning?
" No girls in my school look like you!". That's a direct quote.
What has it cost me? My relationship with my dad for 20 yrs. He disowned me.
Mom not looking at me as her daughter. Until she asked directly and he couldn't hid it.
Self esteem.
Fear of men. Or using my body to get them.
Just breaking the cycle 8 yrs ago.
Not giving my dad what he wanted before he died in 2017.
Telling a family member that if there is a family reunion, I will not be there if they are. And meant it.
And it was my 2.brothers.
1st one was my step brother.
2nd was my bio brother.
He just laughed at me when I brought it up to him a couple months ago.
Is it funny? To him ABSOLUTELY!!!!

We know for a fact that sexual predators can't be rehabilitated. They ALWAYS reoffend. They don't always get caught but they reoffend at every possible opportunity but they still get let out? Make that make sense. We also know that sexual predators only get caught for their crimes about half of the time. So, even a "first offense" is almost never their actual first offense.
My heart absolutely breaks for this man. He deserves better. He needs to be in a secure hospital, wwhere he sees the sun, and gets to pet a therapy dog and as long as there are no pedo's everything will be fine. He is not a threat to the general public. He deserves another chance

I think he's been hard-core punished enough. His childhood was horrific. He, on more than a couple occasions asked for help, but was denied by the same system that now clears it's conscious, but he still suffers from his childhood and crimes against him by both his family, friends, and the system which should be helping him, not killing him with torture.
I went thru alot of what this man went thru and it has messed me up even tho Im in my early 50s. But I changed things by being a diff kind of parent. My kids and grandkids are doing great. However, my 1st marriage was abusive but I stood up for my kids and still will to this day. No one is more important than my kids and grandkids.

See this is EXACTLY why sex crimes need to be taken more seriously! Yes there's a chance he would've still had mental health issues but damn. What he endured by the hands of his father growing up definitely paved the way for these crimes. It was his motivation to do what he did. This is honestly such a sad story. Imagine being locked in a room as a child and later being fated to stay in solitary confinement for the rest of his life. I think the treatment is too extreme.

To be honest I feel like Robert is being punished because almost every single person in his life failed him starting from his own father the man who was supposed to take care of him. The security of the Broadmoor and prison failed him and he definitely doesn’t deserve all that. Not saying that he isn’t dangerous but there are people who have done way worse shit actually eaten brains killed hundreds and have still gotten lesser sentences

I have to agree. Society failed to protect a child (and his siblings) from terrible abuse that is bound to have impacted his psyche. The beating across his head carried out by his father with the air rifle could have caused brain damage effecting his future behaviour. We, quite rightly, have sympathy for victims of child abuse when they are children but condemn them for violence carried out by them later on. Society can contribute towards to the creation of 'monsters'.

This story always makes me melancholy. An extreme case of being failed by the system. Robert did not deserve the way he has been imprisoned all these years. And when he asked for a parakeet, it broke my heart 💔 Cruel unusual and criminal punishment.
I totally agree with you on this. Yes, he brutally killed. However, he wasn't lurking in the dark waiting for a random victim. It's clear that everything he did stemmed from his own abusive experiences. The fact that he was self aware and seeking help makes this even more tragic. I can't understand why he has been denied so much for so long. He's had far long enough time "in his own head" to truly be rehabilitated enough to at least get more time outside of that living grave. He can still be supervised, but why can't he even have a pet bird? You would think allowing that would demonstrate what his current mental state is. Also, I feel very certain that he would not still be the MOST dangerous anymore.

Honestly, I find it VERY difficult to sympathize with Robert's "victims" when they're being described as sex offenders and child molesters 🤦 also I feel really bad that Robert's in a cage while his sad excuse of a father was free to horribly abuse the rest of his children. I don't agree with what he did but there are far worst criminals that get much more lenient sentences.

I am a victim of sexual abuse and physical abuse. I understand the emotions and if he had been given the help he needed at the very start, it would have taken him onto a different path. The system, I hope, will truly make some changes to ensure things like this don't happen. My heart goes out to Robert. He doesn't deserve this theatric form of punishment. It feels inhumane. He's not that much of a danger for that level of containment. There are worse people out there who deserve that cell he is in.
One thing that stands out to me (randomly) is that his father locked him up in a room alone for 6 months, only entering to abuse him and then the irony of him being locked up in a cell alone for life is just…. I don’t know, it’s unsettling to my heart even though he is a killer. This case was one hell of a way to bring in 2023! lol

I thought the same thing and I kept waiting to hear a valid moment in the story where he deserved this and I didn't. Since he was a kid he just kept trying to protect children and he is still being punished for it so crazy.

I rarely comment on videos. But this one hit different. Dealing with s/a and physical abuse from my stepfather starting at the age of three until 14, I still have horrible nightmares and triggers. My first boyfriend was the same way, worsening the trauma. I do agree that murder is wrong, but in Robert's case, he wasn't some evil man killing just for fun. I feel sorry that he tried so hard to get help and he was let down over and over. This is the first video I have more sympathy for the killer. My heart goes out to him. I'm so glad he was able to connect with family. Thank you for making this video. As always, it was amazing.

what makes this so sad to me is how often he tried to get help, and how he genuinely was making an effort to get better because he knew something was wrong and that he was a danger to himself and others. Every single person he encountered failed him terribly. one has to think about what kind of man he would have become if his parents never took him and his siblings back. while he still needed to be punished for his crimes, i definitely believe he could have eventually been rehabilitated and lived a successful and happy life.
You should definitely do a video on Broadmoore! The history of asylums and how those with mental health problems were treated is so important so we don’t go backwards. It’s also very interesting.
Edit: After finishing the video I don’t understand how the public can be so mad at him for killing Child molesters/sex offenders. I don’t think those individuals deserve to suffer. This case is so heartbreaking for Robert. He was failed by so many people in his life and honestly did the world a favor by killing his victims. Yet he’s treated like trash being locked in a glass box for over 40 years. What a sad case but this time for the killer.
I feel that Robert is a broken human being. It’s so sad that everyone has let this man down his entire life. The prison system obviously is punishing him because he made them look like bumbling fools. As much as my heart aches for the little boy who was so abused he still should be in prison for the crimes he committed, he needs mental help and not a glass box.

I couldn’t agree more. He was totally failed at every turn. He ASKED for help, he always turned himself in, he was broken. And watching those interviews, I don’t see evil in his eyes. Not one bit. The public should have been mad at the system. The guards who let this happen. This is a paradox of a case for sure

This is one of the scenarios where SOCIETY is COMPLETELY to blame for how one individual turned out. HE WAS PUNISHED FOR BEING THE HERO HE NEEDED BUT NEVER GOT.

I was abused in pretty much every way by my alcoholic father when i was little and trauma really screws you up for life. Depression, anxiety, insomnia etc. I really don't blame this guy. He took the trash out and no doubt saved more kids from that trauma.
This case tugs abit at my heartstrings. There are people who done way worse than him and gets treated better with less of sentence.

This is one of the saddest cases I've ever heard about. My heart breaks for him. You can clearly see the pain in his eyes, and just knowing that he has gone as far as to ask permission to die... it's almost just too much. He didn't deserve this life. The man literally reached out for help and got none. Clearly, if ever there was a time that the system totally failed a person, this is it. I'm glad that he has reconnected with his family. That has to be something, but honestly maybe it's time he be released, or at least taken to a mental health facility, where he can resume his treatment. I pray that somehow, some way Robert can find peace in this life. I pray for all in similar situations.

I found this case genuinely upsetting. Usually I do not feel quite so bad for perpetrators, but I really feel for Robert and his story. They very clearly made an example of him, and he feels like more of a victim than his own.

I think Robert is a hero and honestly was getting rid of the worlds worst trash. He was failed and hurt for so many years and I feel so bad for him. He should have been helped and loved properly. Whether they wanted him to "clean up the prison" or not, it's a miscarriage of justice to have put him in that situation when they knew his history. It's torture for his own childhood.
I didn't expect to watch this video and feel so empathetic towards Robert. It's so sick to me that he's been forced into the conditions that caused his trauma and mental instability from the get-go. I do feel he absolutely needs to remain in prison or a mental hospital, but the depravity of his conditions are appauling.

I can't help but think they did this to Robert because he was sex worker, and a male one. The system failed him and still is failing him and many victims that are sex workers that have serious PTSS. Wow. I was not prepared to feel bad for a serial killer after he was a serial killer. But the way you told this story made me understand that things are never black and white.
This is the only time I have felt so bad for a murderer. He tried to get help and didn’t want to suffer with hearing voices and he was failed by everyone. His parents treated him and his siblings like trash. Children don’t deserve to be treated that way.
I truly feel for Robert. As a child of abuse myself, I know how difficult it can be to seek help and be failed by the system. It’s very sad how society punishes victims of abuse more harshly than perpetrators. I’m sad about how things turned out for Robert, and I want to know if his parents were ever held accountable.

As some with past SA, he his helping future victims. There are a lot of predators that are released after a couple years. I honestly feel for him. He was denied the help he seeked and is now wasting away in a "glass box" when he should be getting help and the abusers should be where he is.

It always upsets me when I hear a case where the perpetrator reached out for help and didn't get it. Poor Robert knew what he was experiencing wasn't normal and no one helped him. I don't usually feel sympathy for serial killers, but I feel so bad for him.

This case actually made me cry, i feel robert has been failed in every respect, he was upfront and i agree je tried to get help, he held his hands up to his crimes and he never killed an innocent person!

Not gonna lie...I feel for Robert. He got a raw deal from the begining and he made choices. Feel zero sympathy for any of the victims. Authorities seem to have gone out of their way to punish him for their own incompetencies. Seems like if you where a decent person, you would have zero to fear from him. Man lived a hellish life, amoungst demons, and was punished for being against perverts existing in our world.
Even more infuriating is that sex offenders aren’t even taken seriously in the justice system. And yet Robert gets this treatment from the justice system. Just so sad. Also there’s no way that the hospital staff and prison guards didn’t hear anything or know anything. They definitely had to have turned a blind and knew what he was planning to do. No one likes sex offenders in prison.
