The only thing I don't understand is why her parents, in the first place, allowed her to stay the night and spend so much time with her boyfriend; without first insisting on meeting him?? She was 14! I would want to even meet this supposed boyfriends parents if my 14 was staying overnight at his house?! Not at all blaming them for what happened, but this thought just struck me so hard.
I was wondering that too. There’s no way I’d let my 14yr old stay the night with someone (bf or not) without meeting them first. But who knows, maybe she lied and said she was staying at a friends. But still, it should strike them as odd that she was staying there every single weekend like that 🤨…
I don't understand that either. I also don't understand why her employers, the parents she was babysitting for, were ok with their nasty, 46 year old, creep, friend, coming onto their 14 year old babysitter. Normal people would have a problem with that. Good, normal, people who aren't sick creeps themselves would see what was happening, and tell her parents, and report it to the police. Edit: Also I am actually kinda surprised that when she finally introduced him to her parents, right there in their home, and they found out they had been lied to for 2 years, that the father didn't just beat him to death. The mom too really. They should have murdered the sick freak and buried him in the backyard. Just IMO of course.
@t.n.h.ptheneohumanpatterna8334 Calm down edge lord. Lots of parents in history have killed the murderer or rapist of their children. It's not that far fetched.
Ya. The man knew he could get away w anything the moment she spent any time with him and her parents hadn't known exactly where she was at. And sadly he was right. So sickening
What you said about Kelly being mature for her age struck a chord. No doubt that's what this vile monster told her. For all the teenagers watching this who might be in relationships with adults, it doesn't matter how mature you are, you're still a child. Even at 20, the idea of dating a 15 year old was not something I'd even consider. At 30 now, I cannot even fathom why someone my age or older would want to date someone half their age. There's no common ground there, no shared life experience and no equal footing, the only reason an adult would want to 'date' someone who is that much younger is so they can manipulate and control them and that is the hill I'm willing to die on.
I 100% agree with you. At 32, I am repulsed by the idea of dating a teenager. To be honest, at this point in my life anyone 20 and younger is a child to me.
Amen. No excuse for this happening and anyone knowing of it and it continuing to be allowed. Is unfathomable. Just will necer ever understand how they didn't stop it even if it took cutting his junk off and then leaving him to die. Idc anything. It's your child for Christ sakes
The fact that this girl walked around with bruises everywhere and her father, neighbors, classmates did nothing says everything about the society we currently live in. The fact that men didn't beat the living fuck out of this man before it even got close to what happened is sickening. Everyone in manchester should be ashamed
I totally agree. Everyone should b punished on that note. I mean every single person that saw and new anything. They are all cowards. They should be punished for being destructive cowards and allowing this in are society
I mean... I don't think they could and it's not really fair to expect only men to do that. mostly because I mean one it leads to toxic masculinity but two some people have so much on their plate that they can't do anything if they tried. also her parents tried to do something about it but the police wouldn't do anything. beating him up would do nothing, it'd give him an excuse to get them locked up
@@chocomelo454 This whole “Toxic masculinity” movement is the problem. Women are weaker than men, we just are. The women beaters are always going to be women beaters. The only thing the movement does is turn the good guys into beta males, and are so soft or too scared to protect women when they need it. Men are suppose to be protectors, hold the door, pay for the first date, why is that bad??? Maybe if he knew if she went out looking the way she did that he would get his ass handed to him, he wouldn’t have been beating on her so much.
@@chocomelo454how exactly is masculinity toxic? We need men to build roads, machinery, buildings, houses, do plumbing, hvac, woodworking, automotive work. I could go on and on. Women can’t (or either refuse) to do most of these trades… because of our feminine nature we are wired for different things. Just as men are wired to be strong and providers. ALSO a man is supposed to protect a woman. ESPECIALLY fathers protecting their daughters. Ugh, that’s an incredibly ridiculous mindset you have on that topic.
I googled this case straight after watching, I came across a Daily Mail article which was released on the 16th Jan, he's been denied parole just this month, aged 74. Rightly so too, may Kelly-Anne rest in peace.
This reminds me of the Junko Furuta case. These are two of the worst cases of torture I've ever heard. Kelly lasted 5 weeks, Junko lasted 40 days. I can't even imagine the pain. What is most infuriating is Junko's torture/murderers are free & served barely any time in prison. I'm a atheist, but sometimes I do hope hell is real for these monsters to get some form of punishment.
Same. I immediately started thinking of Junko Furuta, Sylvia Likens & then David Parker Ray (too many victims, mostly unknown, to refer to them by name). People who torture people like this, especially children, deserve to have every ounce of pain they delivered returned to them sevenfold. I feel so heartbroken for Kelly. She deserved so much more.
@@AnnaJ292 yeah it also reminds me of the toolbox killers, they recorded the audio of the torture of some of their victims and many in the courtroom that day that it was played had to leave and we're crying and vomiting in the hallways of the courthouse because of the horrendous screams of their victims.
YES, oh my god, the way that poor girl was tortured. that was the first case i heard of that i had trouble sleeping because i couldn’t believe such evil could exist in this world
Junko’s case will never leave me. I read it on Christmas Day and it was easily the worst thing I’ve ever heard. This is on the same level for me. R.I.P Junko & Kelly-Anne💔
Her parents and the authorities failed her. Period. Who lets their daughter date a complete stranger for TWO YEARS at FOURTEEN in the first place??! Unbelievable.
Also what parent lets their 14 year old spend multiple nights with her “14 year old boyfriend”? I don’t care mature or headstrong they maybe, they are kids! My first boyfriend at 16 had to come over and meet my parents before I was ever allowed out with him. And he got the intimidating dad “touch my daughter and I will kill you” chat. Poor guy. Any school friends I wanted to stay over got a phone call from Mum to their Mum before permission was granted. So grateful my parents kept me safe.
What could the parents have done? She would just of run away. Its not as easy as you think when the law isnt on their side! Please don't blame the parents. They have been through enough.
At 14 The parents should know everything about their daughter! She is Stil a child, my 6 kids have never slept out and never will, they can have their friends stay here if the parents are ok with it (I talk to them not my kids) if they’re not with me I can’t 💯 keep them safe, and as their mum it’s my job, her parents failed her
@@babsywoman4212 I would really hate for them to read all this too but unfortunately it’s the truth. I would have forced my daughter to stay home if I had to, no way would I let my baby be groomed and just sit back and watch. Sometimes you have to show tough love because it gets your loved ones out of bigger trouble. You can’t let a minor make decisions for themselves when there is an old man taking advantage of them right in front of you. I just can’t ever imagine being polite and respectful while all this is happening. You can’t let your minor child leave to pack up to go to her “boyfriends” house when he’s double her age. This is basic parenting. Let your kid hate you if that’s what it takes. They’ll understand eventually.
Yep 100 percent agree if that was my child nd she brought home a 46 yr old dude first i have a bat or a rifle nd then i call the cops for me cuz i would beat that pervert nd the cops should have did a report nd do a warrant when the mother nd father found out his real age
As a mother, to be honest, the day that my daughter turned around, and I saw bruises all over her face, that would be the day that I go to jail for killing that guy I would’ve much rather do the time and save my child then to endure a lifetime of regret and memories and thoughts, of what had happened to her because I did nothing her parents were way too are passive especially after they knew the police were not interested RIP Kelly
PERIOD. I was looking for this type of comment and couldn't find anything (other than my own). My parents would solve the issue by any means necessary and happily go to jail about it to keep me safe like wtf
I feel like they should’ve called the police the moment he came down the stairs. Because that man does not match the description of the guest they were expecting.
Who else shuddered when she said "burned with an iron!!" Anyone who has accidentally burned themselves using an iron, heated hair tools, or cooking knows how painful that is. Poor Kelly! RIP sweet girl.
I was burned my finger and the skin turned white it was so unbearable 😢the white skin inflated and peeled off after a few days and there was healthy skin underneath
When I was 16, I was groomed by a 23 year old. My mother tried to stop it and I ran away. My heart feels for Kelly and that quote you read out almost made me cry, realizing that that was me.
When I was 17, I was groomed by a 23 year old as well. My mom did EVERYTHING to try to stop it and it only made it worst. She called the police, she even nailed my window shut and it only made me think she was the bad person. I guess there’s just so much parents can do.
Yup I was 12 with a 16 year old online who ended up being 27 years old. I was with that person for a year. I tried leaving many times and was threatened which me being so young, I was scared to leave or even tell my mom about it. I’m glad I got out tho and nothing sexual ever happened. I feel so bad for Kelly.
Call out to parents to know what the hell is going on with your children. It’s absolutely appalling that for two years they never pressed to meet her boyfriend and was fine with a 14 year old girl sleeping over at her boyfriend’s house. That’s horrible in itself.
My son couldn't stay at a friend's house at that age unless I met their parents and knew how to get ahold of them. This was any friend, he certainly wasn't hanging out at girls homes at that age!
I do this I have 4 children, 3 girls my oldest is 12 bout to turn 13 and I’ve had the but my friends are allowed out to wonder and but my friends mum lets her have Facebook and Snapchat. She’ll realise her she’s older we are just trying to protect her and I’ll be damed if any of my children will be “wondering the streets with friends “ , they can’t stay at friends houses until I’ve met and spoken face to face to their parents .
This is why im thankful for my parents being strict and not letting me stay overnight at friends, unless they met the parents and had their numbers. I wasn’t allowed to have a boyfriend. I had curfews. I’m 28 now but when I was a teenager, I did rebel at times thinking “im old enough, im grown” but nope. I realize now they were indeed protecting me and keeping me from being in a scenario for something bad to happen to me. At 28, I look at 15-16 year olds as little kids.
having a curfew and not letting you sleep over at people’s houses that your parents don’t know is…normal. not allowing your kids to date is not good parenting advice💀
As a 16 year old myself, I am shaking. I don't want to blame the parents but why were they letting their child spend so much time at a boyfriend's house - who they had never met?! I am appalled at how the police did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Usually I am not effected by cases but this one really got to me. People like James need to be put away forever. Although this case is horrible, you told it in such a good and respectful way Danielle
Yes I agree i don't want to blame the parents but I'm sorry as a parent myself there is no way I would let my 14 year old stay the night with a boyfriend secondly once I found out said boyfriend isn't even the same age I'd been like no way, this is not happening,, imma look him in the face and tell him straight up leave her alone or I'm gonna shoot you cause this isn't right.. if I was her parent when I went to go to his house and saw my daughter on the couch like that I'm grabbing her by the hair and dragging her out of the house and look at him and be like try and stop me.. this case has got my blood boiling..
What kind of parenting was this?? I can't believe these parents allowed a 14 year old to stay overnight with a boyfriend. Even if they thought he was 14.
@ReggiezombieAgain... what PARENT (you know the one who is responsible for protecting and raising their kids) allows their kid to not only date... but sleep over a grown man's house. If they parented their kid, this wouldn't have happened. That mf would've been a vegetable the minute he walked down those stairs.
@Reggiezombie We're blaming the killler for killing, and we're also holding the parents responsible for not keeping their child safe. Both can be to blame. It doesn't have to be only one person to blame, it's a complicated issue.
@Reggiezombie it is her parents fault to an extent. What parents allow for their child to spend the night at a SO house? Ig they would want to be early grandparents if that’s the case… would you allow for your child to just spend the night at ANYBODY house if you haven’t met the parents? Or would you want to meet the parents to make sure that your child would be safe. Anything can happen at friend’s houses. More so spending the night at a bf house as a teenager is fucking WILD… like that’s actually INSANE… I could NEVER imagine that even happening she’s not 18-20 she was 14-16 spending the night at a bf house. That shit is WILD again
You know what's sad... If her parents had of just locked her in her room or found a way to lock her in the house, CPA or the RCMP would have jumped on THAT and arrested her parents, yet the authorities are ok with THIS kind of abuse "because she's 16". I tell ya from experience that there is hardly any true justice in the justice system these days! 😠
There is no way in hell that James Patterson Smith has done this out of the blue... what he did comes from somewhere deep in his psyche, and there is no way he could manage for almost 50 years to suppress his urge to murder to just Kelly. The police really should have investigated other unsolved murders/missing women, and pushed hard for him to ask his whereabouts when they took place in the north east of England.
Yeah after hearing the details I agree with you. This doesn’t fit the “first time” profile. I mean it’s possible that once he maintained full control of her that maybe the depraved floodgates just opened up.
I have a case suggestion for you. There was a young woman who lived in Homer, Alaska named Anesha “Duffy” Murnane. She lived in an adult care facility and was missing for approximately two years while her family and the town searched desperately for her. Recently, it has been discovered that she was abducted, tortured, and murdered by a man named Kirby Calderwood who was working at the care facility she lived at. The case is truly heartbreaking 💔
As an abuse survivor myself, this case makes me sick, the lack of empathy from police is something that still hasn’t really changed to this day. Thank you for being so respectful covering this case❤ ~Rest in peace Kelly~
Police are the same kind of people as the killer, they're just competent enough to pass a screening process so they can get official sanction for their bloodlust.
This woman warns us before difficult situations, I appreciate that, thank you… 😢. He only gets 20 years to life… She no longer has/had a life. I think we should bring back public hangings
I am really not trying to blame the parents, but my parents would have literally not let me out of my sight. I understand that they wanted her to be independent, but that was a dire situation. Could they not have sent her off to a boarding school? I am just so confused how did this even continue? They're her legal guardians, how was it that her parents could do NOTHING? I'm not sure what the laws are in England, but surely they were well within their rights to take their daughter away. I am just so baffled. Homeschool her? Move? I know these her all extremely difficult to do but surely your child comes first? I'm sorry I just want to add on, something drastic should have been done once they saw the bruises :( ESPECIALLY once they saw her like that on his couch... Don't get me wrong, I absolutely feel AWFUL for her parents, no parent deserves the loss of a child, I can't begin to imagine the pain they are in. But I also just don't understand why more was not done to keep her away from that man.
I do agree with you but some boarding schools in the Uk are upwards of £20,000 per year in the Uk (a years wage for some) and in the outskirts of Manchester homeschooling might not have been an option if her parents needed to work full time to provide for her. I do however think they should have done more earlier. But I think the police are to blame here
It’s hard for you to understand because you believe being a parent means loving and caring for your children. Most parents DONT love their kids or care about them. Kelly’s parents didn’t care about her
@@LL-px1rz and what do you know about that? you don’t even know these people. and most parents actually do love their children and try to make the best out of their situation. it’s so disgusting and disrespectful of you to comment that on two parents that have lost their daughter, not in just any way but in the most inhumane way imaginable. they are victims to. as i said you weren’t there. you didn’t see the face of her mother in that court room when she learnd what her daughter has been suffering with in the hands of this man. that’s all i have to say to you and i hope you learn what respect is.
This is completely unfair and amounts to victim blaming. Not only was Kelly Anne a victim of this monster, but so were her parents. They TRIED to get help, they went to the police (and other services) at least twice and were blown off. What were they supposed to do? Storm that anal sphincter's house and drag their daughter out? Wow, way to get themselves arrested and charged and end up not being able to even be there for their daughter should she finally break free of that bastard and want their help. The system failed Kelly Anne. Not her parents. I had a mum that loved me to bits. She'd do anything for me, to protect me, and she couldn't always. Same with my dad. Mum and I had issues...a lot of issues, much of it due to her being such a young mum and me being very stubborn, willful and independent. I also had a secret life. Only in the last decade or so has she been finding out what I had been up to as a teen and as young as 13. She was aware that I had a secret life, but wasn't aware at just what I was doing in that secret life. I was an A student, I was involved in extra-curricular activities and had many a parent of friends fooled that I was a "good girl" and was used as an example of what they hoped for their own daughters. When I was 17 there was no way on this earth that my parents would have been able to stop me from doing what I wanted to do, going out with who I wanted to go out with unless they tied me up and even then, I would have found a way to get around that. It's not for lack of love, or for trying when they did find out some of the things I did. I even left home at around 18 and while I still maintained good grades, had a part-time job, still did my wholesome hobbies (and some not so wholesome ones, since back in the day working in theatre was still not considered a good idea for someone young who didn't have a family who was into the same thing), but I had a wild side that I really did keep fairly quiet around family. I can't count the number of times I ended up in some really dodgy situations that could have ended up with me dead or worse. I was thankfully clever enough to get out of them. I thank my lucky stars that I realised the root of my risk taking and got help at a fairly young age. I'm lucky. Not all teenage girls or young women are and in no way, short of them being in a situation where family is committing crimes against them, is anyone to blame except the perpetrator of those crimes. Not the victim, not the parents, not anyone but the criminal who tortures and kills young girls and women. There is a special place in hell for this monster and I currently hope he is living in fear of the other inmates while he's in jail.
I dated a man much older than me when I was around 13 and this story hits a little scarily close to home. It’s terrifying how easy it is for these men to get time alone with young girls and how no one can or is willing to do anything about it. Rip Kelly, she deserved so much more from everyone around her ❤️
I have a 12 year old, and honestly, i have no idea how any grown man could ever have any time alone with my child. Could you please tell us how do some of these men do that?
@CrystalRuizEnriquez when I was 13 I was in contact with a 21 year old man from a few states over through an online game. Strategy based, my parents figured it was safe. It should have been, but I was gullible. He emailed me, we "watched movies together" over phone with my parents in the room, he was muted. I made my Facebook account around that time. It took me too long to realize how awful he was. He was on my friends list for years, he watched me grow up. I knew it was wrong because we covered it to other by claiming to be siblings. I dont know what would have happened if he was closer. I'm absolutely terrified to think about it. My parents monitored by media, but I was "smart" enough to cover my tracks. Keep an eye on their media, and make sure they know the danger out there. Grown men don't care about them, make sure they not only know the world can be dangerous but HOW that danger manifests. Good luck, truly
The fact that Kelly stopped taking care of herself and only wearing black makes me think that James forced her to do this so that she'd be unattractive to other men. My ex believed that a woman should dress ugly when she wasn't with her man in order not to attract other men. He also didn't want me wearing colourful clothes when I wasn't with him in order not to attract attention. Abusive men want to control you and want you 100% to themselves, if another man even looks at you they think that it's YOUR fault and you need to take measures to make sure men don't look at you.
This detail also hit me. I wasn’t allowed to wear tight or short clothes, no makeup and my hair had to be natural or pulled up. Nail polish was also a no. Luckily it was only a year and some change and got out but I can imagine others slowly falling into that trap..
I'm glad to hear these are your ex boyfriends. My very recent, and now, ex-boyfriend was insanely jealous as well. That jealousy is an admission of guilt, imo, as well as a form of control. They can't be trusted, so they can't trust their partners.
@amanda poole Yea 100%. And it’s sad that so many years later and now in a a heathy relationship I find that some of my ‘bad habits’ still come out! Ie: asking if my look is okay to my partner or saying sorry for stupid things. it’s a lifelong reprogramming of the manipulation. **Correcting screen name
I’m sorry for everyone who has endured abuse fro: partners. It’s awful. I’m a survivor as well and also find myself still trying to break out of brainwashing almost 10 years after retaking my freedom. It’s a lifetime of invisible scars that only the most loving and understanding of partners can understand when you reclaim your mental health and autonomy enough to seek love. I am truly humbled to have been so lucky as to find someone like this in my life four years ago. I truly wish this good fortune to all of as well. ❤️
Hi Danielle. I found an article. Kelly's mother died in December 2020 of respiratory failure after battling cancer and other illnesses. The murdering scumbag who took Kelly's life was apparently eligible for parole in 2021 but I am assuming he was refused parole as u say there is no record of his release. Rest in peace Kelly. I cannot believe what happened to you 😭
@Lucyboyce thank you for updating us on this I hope he never gets out ! Her poor poor mother and father well her mother is with her now I hope their buried near and beside each other !thank you again!
Omg finally someone is talking about this case! I've recommended this case to so many other RUclipsrs! Thank you for talking about it, I think more people should know about what happened to Kelly!
Her parents failed her first. Why would you allow your 14 year old daughter to go sleep out with her boyfriend? Even if he too was also 14 years old???
Now I'm not making excuses or condoning their actions, but I think they thought that they would be sleeping in different rooms under parental supervision. Edit: To be honest I had friends whose parents let them sleep over at their boyfriend's house, mine didn't but it isn't unusual. I always thought it strange that both parents were fine with it but it happens frequently.
That was real surprising to me as well. I don’t want to blame the parents, because I’m sure their grief and regret is eating them alive, but yeah. That was a huge mistake.
@@Areniapixie mine either! And I have 2 daughters… they would never spend the night anywhere until I knew the parents of their friend. You just can’t trust people like you used to! So unbelievably preventable…
I don't usually get affected too much by true crime stories but this one has me shaking. Like, my hands can't stop trembling right now. I can't imagine how the parents must have felt. RIP Kelly, she deserved to live. I hope that man never leaves prison, he doesn't deserve a thing.
Same here, honestly made me cry and physically sick listening to what this monster put Kelly through. And I’ve heard some awful cases but this…. I have no words to describe it.
Horrific. Her parents and the UK police failed her. They need to change the age of consent from 16, that’s just too young and too easy for predators like this to take advantage of those laws smh. Just so sad 😢
I agree it should be raised. It's way too young. Back in the 90's things were not like they are now in the UK most things didn't cause concern like these days. We are more aware now of grooming and how teenage girls are just that girls! We understand the situation and how grown adults take advantage of vulnerable kids. Lots of girls had older boyfriends back then ( I was 15 in 1994) and very rare parents called the police and statutory rape was proven. Not saying all of these relationships were abusive at all. I myself met my husband of 25 years when I was 15 and he was 22. At that time we didn't see how wrong it was!! We are still together after 28 years have 7 kids and a granddaughter. If any of my daughters were seeing an older guy I'd call the police before my husband killed him! I was always home In bed by 8pm. I didn't stay out, i was good at school had great friends so my parents thought I was with my friends ( only in day time ) until i introduced them to him by then I was 16 and I moved out to live with him. It wasn't illegal and I still went to school. All I'm trying to say is these days it's very different, thankfully. If that was the case now parents could get the police to bring their child home. I have no words strong enough to describe how I feel about this monster and what he did.
@@emmalouise7884 ummmm idk how a 22 y/o didn’t understand how wrong that was. That’s really really bad. U have 7 kids growing up thinking that’s ok……………
@Jayden Lyn back in the 90s (times were different so note this is not my mentality this was just how it was) girls often sought to marry early anyway so the concept of power dynamic was never really widely discussed or given much thought at all
@@jaydenlyn7233 at that time most girls like I said had older boyfriends it was not seen as wrong same as previous decades when 16 year old married their 20 year old boyfriends no one thought anything of it. Now we know it's too young! Back then it was not unusual or strange and we didn't see it as wrong. Most of my parents friends and some of mine had the same age gap in their romantic relationships. All my kids are all lovely, doing great at school or work and are respectful very caring humans. They have a good understanding of the laws we have in this country now and what is morally acceptable and unacceptable. As I said before thankfully now we recognise the issue.
Life in prison with ONLY a MINIMUM of 20 years? AYFKM?!!! Even the Devil wouldn't accept him in Hell!! 20 years is an utter & outrageous insult to not only Kelly, but to all of humanity!!!
I love in Gorton, Manchester, Lancashire UK and this case was a turning point for Manchester City as a whole where we no longer left our doors and windows open like we used to or trusted everyone on face value. Gorton is a rough area with much poverty and unemployment and drug addiction and a high crime rate, but it's also a very tight knit community where we look out for each other and look after our own. This young girl is buried in Gorton cemetery and our local council set aside a memoriam garden in the cemetery grounds with a bench in her name. It's still etched in the memories of many in Gorton and will never be forgotten. Thanku for doing this horrific story justice and bringing to life with a sense of care, the victims involved. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
I watch a lot of true crime on here, but you're the only person who I've seen genuinely get emotional over the victims. Not just in this videos either, I've noticed in the past. It just shows how much you care, and I love that. Thanks for bringing this case to us, she deserves to be known, she was incredibly strong
It's crazy bc she is so kind and caring. I like Bailey and Mr ballen but Danielle actually cares and it's a shame she doesn't even have a million followers. She always puts an entire week, sometimes two into every case and does her own research. She's a rare gem indeed!
Clearly haven’t watched Kendall Rae she’s the only true crime RUclipsr who actively works with the families in the cases to help get the story out, sells merch that she donates 100% of the proceeds to many organisations helping prevent and solve crimes. Yeah Danielle sounds upset when she tells the story but she’s still profiting from it? If she cared as much as she acts like she does whist telling the stories why isn’t she doing more. Kinda sick of these RUclipsrs profiting of peoples pain and telling stories that aren’t theres to tell… not trying to be rude and I’m not directing this at Danielle directly as many RUclipsrs are doing this.
@@alextaylorjones I fully believe Danielle will donate more money as she gets bigger. She has done a few fundraising things but currently at her sub and level of sponsers she's not earning ridiculous sums of money. Give her a bit more time.
@@cherryshortstak8034 doesn’t have to donate simply giving visibility and saying how we can support organisations like Thorn or Woman’s Justice is enough.. Like most true crime RUclipsr that do weeks of “research” none of them mention anything like this, I get wanting to hear about these cases but they aren’t stories! It’s not entertainment! If your going to tell a story and bring awareness to it and help make sure we’re talking about it for the right reasons! everyone was outrage over the Netflix Jeffrey Dahmer series but how is this any different?
A fact which really drives home how awful this case is: literally all the jurors ended up with PTSD and were given counselling. Rest in peace Kelly Anne. I’m so sorry this happened to you.
I’m of Asian background and we’re used to having very strict parents growing up. It baffles me how her parents did absolutely nothing knowing that she was dating a much older guy, seeing that he’s controlling her and knowing very well that she’s being abused. Heck, my dad would have knocked the guy cold the day he was introduced to them. Yes the authorities are to blame, but I blame her parents. They should have intervened. She was after all still a minor.
My favorite thing about Danielle is the end of her videos when she discusses the victims. She always holds them with gentleness. Danielle sort of tenderly describes them with so much dignity. I think it’s really lovely that even in these victims intense suffering, at least after their deaths they are held by someone as kind as Danielle.
I teach teens and so many girls have older boyfriends - they seriously need to hear about cases like this. I'm trying to get through to a girl who literally won't go home because she wants to be with her grown boyfriend. She used to be so colorful and positive, but she's changed completely. She doesn't want to go to college anymore, and that's really scary to me because she's burning bridges to her family and planning on depending on this older man. It's scary how young girls are so easily manipulated by these men who can become monsters.
Also, while college isn't for everyone, this girl excels academically and is gifted - she is literally the type of person college is for. It's extra troubling when a man discourages a girl from seeking an education, especially when she is academically gifted.
Any update? :( An underclassmen in my highschool is dating a 24 year old man. Nearly 10 years older than her, and she's ran away to be with him multiple times. Its scary man :(
Countries have laws. If there is a breach in the law of age of consent, the age of being an adult etc, that their relationship is deemed illegal, then get the police involved. All adults have a duty of care to those who are not adults.
I have never, ever, been so shaken, horrified and heartbroken listening to a case. How a human could ever do anything like this is unfathomable and beyond anything that a normal person can get their head around. These sorts of cases make me wish the death penalty was legal in the UK. Rip Kelly, may you rest in peace sweet girl. I hope her family somehow found closure and find the strength to heal somewhat.
Yes- I've watched all of Danielle's videos, watch other True Crime RUclips content creators, shows streaming on every app/channel, read about it... this is the only case that gave me nightmares (as far as I can remember). This is so terrifying. And it's really sad because at 38 years old (tomorrow), I've talked to and known a scary number of women who were groomed by an older man when they were very young. I actually worked at a pizza shop starting at 14 until I was 17... thought I was in love with one of the cooks/brother of owner who was 26 when I met him. When I was 17, he kissed me, tasted like cigarettes (I'd never smoked or experienced that) and he tried to turn it actually sexual immediately. I was a virgin and suddenly something inside me became repulsed and sick to my stomach. I ended up having to quit bc he treated me badly after my refusal. I didn't think about it much until my mid-late 20s, talking with friends, and realized how scary and messed up even that age difference was. Other people got into similar situations and it went further into abuse territory. It happens all too often, but this case is absolutely horrendous and I feel so awful for this poor girl. I'm confused as to why her parents let her sleep over a boyfriend's house at FOURTEEN esp without meeting him... I never did that until college/I was an adult, even after my parents knew the 2 bfs I had in HS. I know this is not their fault- the fault lies with this monster- but that struck me as odd. Some parents give their kids a longer leash, and some kids lie and say they're staying at a friend's house to cover up the boyfriend... at any rate, my heart absolutely breaks for this beautiful young girl who had so much to live for. 💔 I will never understand how a supposed "human" is capable of such evil deeds.
Danielle I hope you take care of your own mental health when researching these cases. I’m still so shook by the case with the poor girl who was tortured by the neighbors and can still hear that horrible Chucky song in my head, this case will imprint on me the same way unfortunately. RIP Kelly-Anne 😢
Why were the police so incompetent???? This case makes me want to scream. It's so tragic and horrific. Thank you for covering it, Danielle. Your work is always appreciated. You're amazing 👏 💖
Because this was in the 1990's and domestic abuse was rarely talked about, and police rarely got involved in domestic disputes! Grooming was not a word most people had heard of, apart from being connected with dog parlours etc.
Their hands were pretty much tied as the relationship was legal once things got really bad and because Kelly wouldn’t leave/report Smith for domestic abuse.
I’ve heard this case but every time , it makes me feel physically ill to hear about the injuries in detail. I don’t know how this poor woman survived and suffered through all these injuries she must have been in the most unimaginable pain. Sometimes I wish criminals were allowed to endure the same crimes they inflict on their victims so they could truly understand what disgusting garbage they are.
So many of those types of people lack empathy and that's why they committed the horrid crimes they commit. While I understand your take, if you tortured a person who tortured someone else, they wouldn't learn. The lesson we all want them to learn wouldn't be learned. They don't think the way you and I do.
Very true, but atleast they get to suffer. They may not be able to empathize and connect the agony of their victims. Yet, their own suffering will be justified.
I've always felt this way. Whatever they have done to someone, no matter what it is, they should have it done to them. Of course the only problem with that is the person doing those things would have to be pretty twisted themselves. But if they could even go through a fraction of what they put their victims through, that might be enough.
Calleigh I could not agree with you more I always say I so wish that the perpetrator would go through the same exact thing as they did to their victim cuz in jail they have it too easy so I agree with you 💯%
I was groomed at 16 by a guy who said he was 24 at the time (i'm not even sure that was true) and all I can say is that my parents did the best they could to prevent it, but there was nothing they could do. Everything they did to prevent us from seeing each other just made me want him more and made me pull away from my family. It's only when I turned 24 myself that I realized how fucked up that was of him to chase a girl that young. I am so glad that you are not blaming the parents here, they did what they thought was best at the time. It is 100% the pervert's fault.
@@jillruben8924 however the parents didn't do much they didn't even know who there 14 year old Daughter was dating for 2 years. At that point you have failed as a parent
@@thousandyardgavri2785 Abusers often seek out victims who are in a situation of vulnerability and who do not have a lot of self confidence. I think paying attention to signs that your kid is going through something might help preventing them from needing validation from much older people who might not have their best interests at heart. Therapy might also be a good idea. But honestly, I do not have kids, I am not a psych expert, I mostly speak from my own experience here.
Nah the parents should be blamed too. This is straight up neglect. Your parents should've done more too, you're lucky the 24 yo wasn't a psychopath but that's just pure luck. If I were a parent I wouldn't let my child's safety depending on how lucky they are.
I firmly believe as citizens, we need to start taking the decisions of what happens to these kind of people after they've been tried and convicted. Because our judicial system wont do enough. There's really nothing they could do if enough people finally get sick of them getting lenient punishments.
i just want to say that i really do hope you're looking after yourself. seeing how emotional you get over these cases and especially this one, it must be so hard having to do the research and then tell the story as well as you possibly can, all while trying to stay professional. what a truly heartbreaking case💔 please look after yourself x
I definitely think Kelly's parents must have known. There's no way you mistake a 48-year-old's voice for 14 year old's voice. Also how do you let your 14 year old daughter stay at a boy's house that you've never seen face to face. 2 years and they never invited the boy over for dinner? Asked to meet* him?? Sounds like her parents were extremely n e g l e c t f u l. 😪
Sure, pile on the guilt her parents already feel. Your comment is thoughtless and cruel. Walk a mile in their shoes as the old saying goes. You weren’t there.
@@oldbat2ccats for sure they were neglectful parents and they weren't involved enough especially when they found out their underage daughter was dating an elderly man. They should feel guilty
While in general, I agree with you on the voice aspect alone; however, without ever hearing his voice, we don't really know what he sounded like. I am 60 years old and solicitors (not robo calls) still ask if my parents are home when I answer the phone....lol. I have used this to my advantage more than once.
Shame on you. Funny how people think they are better. Make sure your kids grow to be successful. I don't know any parents that are perfect. On this, I think the manner of her death and waking every morning, they're are feeling beyond bereft.
Her parents could have stopped the entire thing. The moment they found out she had a boyfriend at 14 years old…and let her stay over….was the first mistake- even if he was the same age. My father NEVER would have allowed that. That would have deterred him from the get go.
I think he said his age was 32 because that would then mean he was “only” double her age. Instead of TRIPLE her age. Coz that is what he is. Let that sink in!
As a girl, who was 16, and in a relationship with a man 15 years older than me for two years, that was both mentally and physically abusive the story resonated with me. At the time I thought I was OK but that’s because I was being brainwashed, and it wasn’t until an outside source stepped in and helped me get a court order against him to get him to leave me alone.
I was talking to a 30 year old when I was 17 and 18 we officially dated and then we dated for almost a year. I always liked older men though cuz I love 80’s rockstars like Joe Elliott and George Lynch. I’m weird.
@@beaulieuc8910 you are welcome. I am still dealing with the trauma 26 years later! Nightmares, sexuality, relationship problems to name a few. MOMS & DADS pay attention to your children you only get one chance! 💗🕊️
I actually had to stand up and walk away and gag when you were talking about what he did to Kelly. Specifically the part about her eyes. I am absolutely horrified and heartbroken. I feel so bad for that jury also - the brief description Danielle gave almost took me out, I cannot imagine having to see pictures of that, my God...
Same. My boyfriend and I are into true crime and we've watched tons of these cases, but when she started getting into the description of what he did to her, it got to us. Had to watch a couple hours of silly, funny videos before we could sleep
Danielle- an interesting case you may want to look into: Harry De LaRoche, an 18 year old military student who murdered his parents and two brothers over Thanksgiving weekend in 1976. This took place in his hometown of Montvale, New Jersey. I went to school with Harry, he was very quiet, nerdy and not many friends. There was a book written about the murders - 'Anyone's Son' authored by Roberta Roesch. Thank you
I would have mde his life a living hell. Illegally- threaten, burn down his house, car etc. This was a power play and these parents did nothing and gave an abuser their consent for this, regardless of what the girl wanted. Kept it a secret the way stalkers do it. Her parents failed her.
What's even sadder is that if they would have been in Germany, they would have been legal to have sex from the get go as our age of consent is 14. It's disgusting. Also, to answer the question what I would have done in Kelly's parents shoes: I would have called the police, gotten a restraining order and gotten my daughter psychological help to see through all the brainwashing she has experienced
I would've gone absolutely insane if that creep had come walking down my stairs. I don't think you could really hold a parent responsible for becoming violent in a situation like that. Something should've been done in that situation. I agree that it is disgusting that that happened.
@@kaseebecerra9442 What the actual hell? Look I am a progressive and all but california has legit lost its mind. sorry, but it is true. Not that many other states had it in the first place. There are third world countries trying to fight teenage marriage and pregnancy ( and doing a very good job of it) and here we are trying to enforce it. I mean many states already have a child bride epidemic in fundamentalist christian community pockets. Our country is broken, seriously.
I hope that you take care of your own mental health. I can't listen to this without crying for this poor girl. All of these cases have got to weigh on you. I appreciate how you tell these victims' stories, how you let their truth be known. But again, I really hope you are taking care of yourself. Thankyou for doing what you do.
OMG I was so excited to see you drop a video but I don't know if I can watch this one. This is one of the most gruesome, heartbreaking true crime stories I've ever heard of. I'm so glad you're back and I'll catch you in the next one.
Yikes was this ever disturbing. Her parents remind me of my own. They tried to be involved in her life but were neglectful. My parents failed to see that their 60 year old friend renting the basement was “in a relationship” with me from 6-12 years old. I ended it when I met a boy in school. Luckily I managed to escape, but she wasn’t so lucky. Rest in peace. 😢
Wow..😵😲so sorry you had to endure that..these evil demons are master groomers & they also groom & manipulate the parents & family over prolonged periods of time, if they are gullible & simple minded..🤮😈
I missed you so much!! I am loving the background it’s so cute, I’m glad you took some time off but I’m glad you’re here. As always you explain these cases with the most respect and tell them so well. ❤
Not sure after all of that how they could give 20 years minimum, should be life without parole. Absolutely horrific and devastating story, and I can't believe that more wasn't done by social services or police. I think the parents did as much as they could, it's very difficult if other services won't get involved and she's stuck in the cycle unable to leave due to the trauma bond. Thank you as always Danielle, for telling this case with the utmost respect for Kelly and her family ❤️
@@BeautyIsMyLife We do, a judge can give a whole life order and for some god forsaken reason they didn't. There's people who have a whole life order who have done things that are terrible but nowhere near as bad as what this creature did. Judges often seem to be soft, useless and/or utterly deluded.
I think this is the worst case you’ve ever covered. So disturbing in that he hasn’t revealed some kind of motive and tried to pass it off as accidental drowning when she was in that condition like he didn’t even notice the other injuries.
As a parent who has recently left a domestic abusive relationship, this is literally my worst nightmare. I pray that I can give my kids enough knowledge so they never end up in a situation like this. And I don't mean to be funny, I'd be getting my family members, neighbours, everyone, and we'd be over there to drag my child out
You asked ‘why Kelly’ and why not sexual assault? I have a theory. He became impotent. He hit middle age, started having trouble, and Kelly pushed the boundaries, he needed more and more to get satisfied. Eventually he couldn’t get it up anymore and kept trying and trying to get excited by upping the ante, then his rage finally overflowed and he killed her.
That is a good theory. Plus it might explain why she was the first girl he didn't let go. It was mentioned that he waited until she was 16, and perhaps he actually waited until then to get physical. Even though I was doubting that, but who knows, maybe he didn't want to do anything 'illegal' (which is still sick, because she's still a child). But maybe he became impotent during those 2 years of waiting and in his sick mind, felt like she owed it to him.
Makes sense. I read he had a paranoid disorder with morbid jealousy. Maybe due to his impotence he accused her of being unfaithful or possibly wanting someone that would be able to perform sexually. Hence the mutilation of privates and gouging of eyes plus general disfigurement. He made sure no one would “want her”.
I do believe you’ve hit the nail. As a survivor of a torturous, evil, vile psychotic narcissist I know how they get off on the torture. You could see my mother’s eyes glinting with delight as the torture got worse and worse. I know he got off on it. RIP Kelly
I'm completely convinced that he wanted to get caught... I mean we didn't hear much about James but I really honestly doubt that he was so stupid enough to think he could get away with making it look like she drowned in the bathtub. MAYBE if her injuries weren't as severe and if it wasn't for her eyes being gouged out then MAYBE, just maybe he could get away with an abuse charge and convince people she just drowned but there's no way you can do that after gouging someone's eyes out. I think the reason why he liked Kelly so much and refused to let her go is solely because of her parents. I think he got some sick, sadistic pleasure out of making them suffer and fear for their child. When they came to his house he greeted them happily and let them come in, he let them see the hole he had made for Kelly's torture and he let them see the bruises and abuse inflicted on her. intervening
Just finished the video. Truly horrific. You did a great job covering this tough case. Thankful for you humanizing Kelly and showing her as a person. Her story as a person- not just the story of her being a victim. Made me cry.
How could Kelly make her injuries look worse? What a monster - no wonder the jury took counseling after the trial! I just can't imagine the feelings her parents live(d) with - especially if they had to see what condition their child's body was in. Thank you for sharing her story with such respect.
I listen to your videos while I am driving. I don't watch them while driving, I just have them playing through the radio. You are such a great story teller. You voice is also extremely soothing when traffic is bad.
When you mentioned Suzanne I had to pause for a sec and take some breaths...I have said this before, but Suzanne was the first video of yours I watched and my goodness I think of that poor girl every day. 😭😭😭😭 This is going to be a hard one. Thank you for what you do for the victims seriously!! The emotion you show and the care you have with your words. I just love your channel. I love to remember the victims...my heart breaks they need to be remembered and live on somehow. They need their stories told and you are seriously the best at it! Thank you for being a light for these victims I appreciate you so much love you!!!! ❤️
yeah that one took a huge mental toll on me too. as do all of them, but for some reason I think of Suzanne often and it stuck with me. the sentiment in your comment comes off that you’re very kind and caring and that’s really lovely 🥺 nice to see good people in the comments + community and danielle herself, it’s really important to have the balance after hearing the horrors of the actual content. I hope you’re okay 🥺
@zizo I don't know what it is about that case, but my goodness I just can't...I think one of the most terrifying things was the fact that it was 6 people all trying to one-up each other on how evil they could be...I appreciate your comment! To be honest it's been a very stressful week because my boyfriend's best friend was in a terrible car accident and is still in a coma...I'm already empathic and since my boyfriend has been so upset I was so sick I was throwing up. I don't even know why that happens, but man sometimes I have to be careful to not take on too much emotion from other people or even things I hear about. I always listen to true crime because I just want to remember these amazing people that were taken from this world...I always think idk what I would do if that was my daughter....omg especially with this case to know the state of her body...if my daughter...I can't even say it it's disgusting that eye thing like how can you do that to a person with your bare hands...a child really...gah even though I get upset and sad I know it's just so important that these stories are told...Never forgotten ❤❤❤❤
I'm sorry. She dated a "boy" for TWO YEARS and her parents never met him?? Never demanded to meet him? Never talked to his parents? Never got the "boys" phone number? Never saw where he lived, where their daughter was going? And they were shocked when that boy was really a grown a** man who had his claws sunk deep into their little girl? You can't turn a blind eye then cry foul. Maybe they couldn't have changed it but they sure could've made it a lot harder for him to figure it out. 42min in still waiting to hear about the "evil" and not a garden variety pedo. Don't get me wrong. If we stopped it here, absolutely vile piece of garbage this dude, but, ffs I'm kinda over hearing about the age diff. I get it, I get it
Exactly, how the hell did they let their daughter stay the night at someone’s house that they had never met? I don’t care if this was the 90s or not, people didn’t do that. Her parents were clearly very unattentive and it’s tragic, but they are partially to blame for how it even got to the point that it did.
I’m glad people are making informed adult comments . I have never got so angry watching a true crime video. The excuses these parents came up with are completely ridiculous. They were emotionally neglectful….. if I hear her parents ‘ just thought’ ….. they obviously had 2 brain cells between themselves and had no ability to think at all !!!! To be honest, Danielle said that the photo of James showed that he looked creepy. Well Kellies parents in their photos looked like trailer park trash .
This was hands down the most horrible and sad case I have ever listened to. I am literally crying thinking about Kelly and her parents. Danielle the passion in which you told her story has truly moved me. Thank You for sharing. 😭
I really wish the justice system (world wide) would sentence these murderers to the same torture, abuse and murder of their victims. They deserve to FEEL what was done to their victims do to them! You're right there's a special place in hell for these people. 20 yrs is NOT enough for what he's done to her!! 😒🤬
Twenty years!?! It is absolutely horrifying that such a thing could be released back into society…and make no mistake, he would probably get a new identity to protect him from anyone finding out what a monster he is. One can only hope that justice comes to him in a very special way. He deserves to experience every single moment of torture that he inflicted on all of his victims, but especially Kelly. RIP 😔
@karennewsome2276 I agree! And the thing is if the justice system there is similar to the U.S. he could be released early (before 20 yr sentence) on good behavior THAT'S very scary!
@@xitsmedianax unfortunately the UK justice system is more lenient than in the US and a life sentence for even the most depraved killers is max 20 years with the option of parole. It’s very sad.
Honestly, this case made me feel sick, when I imagined going through all this torture being alive. You can’t even imagine the suffering she went through. Whenever we hear these cases we see how negligent the police are and really wanted to know what happens to them after the person dies and goes to the public that the family asked for help and nothing was done. In addition, not wanting but already blaming the responsibility of the family. Take your daughter and change cities, countries, anything, she is still a minor and it is the parents’ responsibility to protect their children 😭
This is one of the worst cases, if not *THE* worst of torture I have ever heard. I just can’t believe the unimaginable pain Kelly went through. That poor girl. Truly heartbreaking. All of my love to Kelly’s family, and I truly hope Kelly is at peace ❤
You are honestly the best story teller on RUclips. Thank you for plowing through the really brutal ones like this. These victims deserve to have their story told in the respectful manner in which you do so well
@@loriburnip I find bailey super disrespectful like she does it cause it’s trendy to be into true crime now and like she only covers cases for views. Danielle however is very respectful and shows emotion towards the victims and does it because she has an interest in criminal psychology.
Her mother has died :( in hospital just before Christmas at the age of 65 in 2020. I hope she's at peace now and with her beloved daughter. Rest in peace to poor poor Kelly, and her mother. This was a tough one, I did shed a tear or two
I remember watching this case on Britain's Darkest Taboos, people are judging the parents and it was so different then young girls dating older guys, I'm glad she's reunited with her daughter at last, because she was never really living after losing her daughter 😢
I’m half way through the vid and that man doesn’t look 32 he looks like he’s about to DECOMPOSE and I feel so bad for the girl and her PARENTS I bet they felt horrid for not trying to see their daughter’s boyfriend sooner.
I think the thing that makes me saddest about cases like this is that the victim could endure this horrific torture for this long and still keep fighting to live. It shows how strong they were and how they fought to live, and to have their life end after all that is just devastating. I just can't imagine how someone could endure this for so long. There aren't words for how sad this is.
Would love to see you cover some survivor story's, we rarely hear the story's of the survivors of these monsters out there. The channel 'unseen' covers these type of story's and they are very uplifting apposed to these very sad story's with tragic endings.
As someone who's been abused which happened for myself at 14, the controlling part is overwhelming. It gets to the point where you are dependent on that abuser. You loose all sight of yourself. You don't know how to dress, act, just be a person. It's hard hearing how common stuff like that is. But it's even harder being in that situation and trying to escape/not knowing how to handle it. The recovery thereafter when you do escape is even harder still. People say why don't you leave, but you become dependent on that person and don't know how to function without them. It's not something that that's easy to break away from. Even harder from a parents perspective trying to help their child escape abuse.
I’m just really surprised Kelly’s body didn’t go into shock and just succumb to the injuries she sustained. I wish that were the case instead of her living through it for weeks. Poor kid. I’m glad she’s not suffering now and that she’s resting peacefully in heaven
Only halfway into the video but holy crap did her parents fail her. First they don’t demand to meet their 14 year olds boyfriend, then they find out he’s a 48 year old creep, but do t put a stop to it because they don’t want to push her away but then they give her an ultimatum. She needed HELP. If you don’t know how to handle such a situation - fair enough! It must be crazy hard. GET HELP. Oh my gosh I’m so frustrated. I know James is the perpetrator but the parents certainly facilitated. Ugh
I do feel awful for these parents, and I’m sure hindsight is 20/20. But having a child with a mysterious boyfriend that I have never met - for two years - is inconceivable to me. I am 45, so I grew up at the same time as Kelly-Anne. Even though the 1990s were a different time, my parents were absolutely in my business. I would have never been allowed to spend multiple nights away with a boyfriend they had never met.
Im glad I'm not the only one who feels like the parents failed her just as much as everyone else. I've watched a lot of true crime, but a case has never made me as furious and disgusted as this case PURELY because of her parents. They literally did absolutely nothing to help or intervene here at all. I couldn't imagine letting my child just spend the night with people I had never met, to not meet the parents or the "kid" at all. I get it, it was "a different time" but there is no way it was THAT different than when I was growing up in the mid/late 90s. My parents were always up in my business when it came to spending the night with friends. They could have sent her to boarding school, they could have moved, they could have gotten a restraining order. I get they didn't want to ostracize her, but as Danielle said, there was a point where she was at home and she was out, and she wanted to STAY out. If they were worried about pushing her away, but they truly wanted to help, that would have been the perfect time and they literally just did... nothing. Waited until she WENT BACK TO HIM because they did nothing, and then gave her that IDIOTIC ultimatum. Waited until she was 17 to even bother to find out where this man lived. I just can't fathom the level of incompetence here as a parent. I know a lot of people are saying we shouldn't blame the parents, but I do. I really do. As a parent, you're responsible for taking care of your kids and keeping your kids SAFE. Sure, she might have been mad at you for it, but she would be ALIVE. She would understand when she grew up, and she would have thanked you for it. But because of your inaction, your daughter was murdered in what is honestly the most brutal way that I have ever heard, and I have watched countless hours of true crime at this point. My blood is boiling about this case all the way around.
It’s so sad to think that her parents went to that monster’s house and saw Kelly curled up on the sofa; they knew something was wrong but just weren’t able to do anything. I hope he never gets out of prison until he dies.
We can’t know how everything actually went but based on this video only I would have SNATCHED my kid off that couch and threatened him within a second of his life with severe bodily harm and just make his life way hard…bc I’m an adult and can play his games. And I would’ve just walked her to and from school, to and from everywhere and never let his calls come in, schedule her play dates with friends her age for skating, etc to get her back on the kid track. I would’ve killed him before it got this far
As someone who used to be on dating apps at 14 and meeting up with older men, I'm lucky something like this never happened to me. A lot of this case hit home, bc of how easily something like this could have happened.
Hi Danielle! I’m from Colombia and thought you’d be interested in covering the story of Luis Garavito, one of the most prolific serial killers in the world. In fact, if you google serial killers by number of victims, Garavito is the one with the highest known victim count. Given that it’s not a well-known case, you may want to shed some light on the crimes he committed and give a voice to the victims, especially since the majority were minors 😔. I’d be happy to assist you with the translation of sources! Take care!
I’m very familiar with this case and it’s definitely one of the worst and depressing cases I’ve ever listened too. That man was evil. I can’t believe people like this exist.
Bless you for telling her story. The fact that you get so emotional when telling this story demonstrates how much you recognize the people in your stories are real. Were real people. Out of all your stories, this killed me emotionally & mentally
Danielle, you are one of the most kind and empathetic people I've ever listened to. Thank you for continuing to bring these crimes and investigations to our attention and, most importantly, giving love and respect to the victims of these cases. 🙏🏻♥️
I understand using age of consent when one person is 16 and the other is 18. It’s only a two year age gap and I get making a law since at 18 you’re a legal adult, but it’s just so disgusting that you have middle-aged people using it to get with people who are still considered minors. Like there is no reason that someone that old would want anything to do with a 16 year old that isn’t deprived.
Why would a 14 year old want to be dating someone his age? Don’t forget they only came out to her parents after they’d already been together for 2 years. They say they raised her to be ‘strong and independent’, in this case I’m seeing this as they just let her do her own thing and she was lacking in love and validation at home.
It gives me chills when Danielle says the victim was only X years old. Whether it's Kelly, who was 17, or a 50 y/o. Just drives home the point at how senseless the murders are and how much life these people had ahead of them.
As soon as you showed his photo at 1:36, the hairs on the back of my neck bristled and an enormous chill went up my spine. It was so strong that it spread to my arms where I got instant goosebumps! I'm from the United States and I've never heard of this man or his crime(s), but now I don't think I want to know!
OMG…that was a heavy case. One of the most heartbreaking I’ve ever heard. Your research is impeccable, and you deliver these stories with such compassion and respect. I always look forward to your videos. Please keep them coming. You are brilliant Danielle. ✨
I look forward every Sunday to watching your videos. I think you present these cases in a way that is so different then other true crime videos. You don’t make me feel creeped out. I also love that you don’t try to act silly or try to make gimmick jokes. I feel like you are telling me a story in person as a friend. I have commented before requesting one video that I hope you eventually cover. The case of jacy duggard. The case is highly publicized but there is so much in her book and so much backstory that doesn’t get covered. I’d love to hear you go over the story using your great research and investigative skills. Can’t wait till your next video
This is my favourite episode of yours I've ever seen. The coverage of the case was great as usual, but what makes it my favourite is the clear passion you have for justice and protection of children. Thank you for bringing more to these stories than just the horrific ending the victims had. They get to live on through your storytelling and us. 🖤

I said the same thing!
she may have been saying she was staying at a friend's place...who knows.
I was wondering that too. There’s no way I’d let my 14yr old stay the night with someone (bf or not) without meeting them first. But who knows, maybe she lied and said she was staying at a friends. But still, it should strike them as odd that she was staying there every single weekend like that 🤨…
Same, my parents didn't let me stay over at friends houses without meeting them and their parents first and I think that's absolutely reasonable
As a parent, I would have unalived this man.
No you wouldn’t 😂

Say it louder for the people in the back 👏 🙌
I 100% agree with you.
Seriously. I'm in my 30s and any man younger than 25 looks like a baby to me. Having sex with them never crosses my mind.
Yes this is so important. Please, be wary of adults repeatedly calling you mature. It's a very dangerous rhetoric
The fact that this girl walked around with bruises everywhere and her father, neighbors, classmates did nothing says everything about the society we currently live in. The fact that men didn't beat the living fuck out of this man before it even got close to what happened is sickening. Everyone in manchester should be ashamed
Exactly

When I was 17, I was groomed by a 23 year old as well. My mom did EVERYTHING to try to stop it and it only made it worst. She called the police, she even nailed my window shut and it only made me think she was the bad person. I guess there’s just so much parents can do.

Right and not even talking to him, meeting him, meeting their parents
@ReggiezombieAgain... what PARENT (you know the one who is responsible for protecting and raising their kids) allows their kid to not only date... but sleep over a grown man's house. If they parented their kid, this wouldn't have happened. That mf would've been a vegetable the minute he walked down those stairs.
i mean..hindsight is always 2020, right?
Good point
You're absolutely correct.
Are cops in the UK called RCMP like here in Canada? I thought that was only a Canadian thing.

But I think the police are to blame here
It's not the parents. They were naive too. Plus it's clear they regret everything. It's not helpful.

What parents would let their 14 year old daughter stay at her boyfriends house overnight…. And without ever having met him? Unbelievable!
Yea that was really shocking to me 🤯 That would have never happened in my home growing up

I think it’s really lovely that even in these victims intense suffering, at least after their deaths they are held by someone as kind as Danielle.
right! she’s such a lovely and genuine person❤️
Yes, I totally agree. Well put.
That was beautifully said. Moved me to tears.
Exactly my thought, you worded better than me. RIP Kelly
Send her this video
Such a sad story. I am sure it is so heartbreaking to see this girl changing in negative ways because of her older boyfriend.
Totally agree... we can all learn from this and be vigilant, and educate our young relatives, girls and boys
The death penalty is too good for these monsters; use them for medical research instead.
Agree with you, first thing I thought was unfortunately this is in the UK and no death penalty for this creature
No he should rot in jail
Danielle I hope you take care of your own mental health when researching these cases. I’m still so shook by the case with the poor girl who was tortured by the neighbors and can still hear that horrible Chucky song in my head, this case will imprint on me the same way unfortunately. RIP Kelly-Anne 😢
Why were the police so incompetent???? This case makes me want to scream. It's so tragic and horrific. Thank you for covering it, Danielle. Your work is always appreciated. You're amazing 👏 💖
So many of them are lazy trash. We like to think they get into that position to protect people but I really think many of them don’t give a shit.
Because they always are. So many cases makes my blood BOIL.
Because this was in the 1990's and domestic abuse was rarely talked about, and police rarely got involved in domestic disputes! Grooming was not a word most people had heard of, apart from being connected with dog parlours etc.
Lazy, misogynist police. Things don’t change.
Totally agree.
Now your comment I respect. Those, almost all are shame blaming the parents. Must be nice for them to feel holier than thou.

@@thousandyardgavri2785 Abusers often seek out victims who are in a situation of vulnerability and who do not have a lot of self confidence.

This sounds good
I know EXACTLY what it would have been like if my dad had seen a 48 yr old man walked out of my bedroom with me when I was 16!

When they came to his house he greeted them happily and let them come in, he let them see the hole he had made for Kelly's torture and he let them see the bruises and abuse inflicted on her. intervening

You saved me the writing! FFS is right!
This was hands down the most horrible and sad case I have ever listened to. I am literally crying thinking about Kelly and her parents. Danielle the passion in which you told her story has truly moved me. Thank You for sharing. 😭
Her parents are half the reason why this happened
Every time you say James Patterson I think of the author 😂
Me too!!! 😅
I really wish the justice system (world wide) would sentence these murderers to the same torture, abuse and murder of their victims. They deserve to FEEL what was done to their victims do to them! You're right there's a special place in hell for these people. 20 yrs is NOT enough for what he's done to her!! 😒🤬
👏 could not agree more. The "justice" system brings little to no justice for the poor victims and their families
I'd have taken care of him. Death couldn't have come quick enough.
As the mother of a preteen this terrifies me! Like, how do you let them be independent when there are these vile predators out here!?
My daughter is sixteen and a homebody and I think God for that. Love on her so much she only wants to be in your presence lol.
You empower her with what love really is and give her validation and make her know her worth x
He can’t even pass for 47 he looks like he’s already decomposing 😳
This is one of the worst cases, if not *THE* worst of torture I have ever heard. I just can’t believe the unimaginable pain Kelly went through. That poor girl. Truly heartbreaking. All of my love to Kelly’s family, and I truly hope Kelly is at peace ❤
You are honestly the best story teller on RUclips. Thank you for plowing through the really brutal ones like this. These victims deserve to have their story told in the respectful manner in which you do so well
Do you follow Emma Kenny, a psychologist who has a crime channel? She’s also amazing and has access to details of cases that the public don’t.
@@LoneWolf.6.9.9.6. l0l
Bailey sarian is amazing also.
@@loriburnip I find bailey super disrespectful like she does it cause it’s trendy to be into true crime now and like she only covers cases for views. Danielle however is very respectful and shows emotion towards the victims and does it because she has an interest in criminal psychology.
@@nerdbites2212 Okay. To each their own. I don't personally feel that way about Bailey, but if you dont like her vibe that's fine.
Had this been the states, he wouldn’t have survived in prison. He would gotten immediate street justice. Piece of trash.
Danielle is such a kind, sensitive person and a role model. I'm so happy to see the channel grow.
As of the 16th of January 2023 he was denied parole. As he was too dangerous.
Would love to see you cover some survivor story's, we rarely hear the story's of the survivors of these monsters out there. The channel 'unseen' covers these type of story's and they are very uplifting apposed to these very sad story's with tragic endings.
*stories
While the survivors should receive notoriety, there is also 100s of thousands victims Noone remembers their name because it goes without any coverage.
I think that would be super cool too.
She covered a survivor story a bit ago about Mary Vincent, maybe you’d like it!
@@allisonoleary6695 if you like survivor story's too, check out the channel ' unseen ' some really good content! Have a great day 😀 x
Missed you Danielle!!! Let the wholesome dragging of this monster commence!!!❤
@@alexkid183 OH MY GOD! Couldn't agree more 👏 Her parents were naive and dangerously irresponsible.
@@alexkid183Perfectly said
Thank you for sharing the victims truth. You're absolutely amazing at what you do and you handle these cases with such care and attention. Xx
We lose too many women due to domestic violence. My heart breaks for her & her family I hope she is resting in paradise.
Take care!
He is eligible for parole next year too... That's concerning.
Just googled him 147 boys and girls😳
I’m very familiar with this case and it’s definitely one of the worst and depressing cases I’ve ever listened too. That man was evil. I can’t believe people like this exist.
He died last October.
Bless you for telling her story. The fact that you get so emotional when telling this story demonstrates how much you recognize the people in your stories are real. Were real people. Out of all your stories, this killed me emotionally & mentally
Her parents failed her bigtime
You’re right, but even some 18 year olds shouldn’t be dating 16 year olds. I witnessed that first hand when I was at school.
Why would a 14 year old want to be dating someone his age? Don’t forget they only came out to her parents after they’d already been together for 2 years. They say they raised her to be ‘strong and independent’, in this case I’m seeing this as they just let her do her own thing and she was lacking in love and validation at home.
People who cite age of consent to justify their creepy age gaps or waiting til someone is freshly legal deserve their hard drives checked.
The fact that this man thought "oh yeah she drowned on accident" SHE HAD NO EYES
