    Hey Everyone, in this video I show you how to setup OBS Studio 27 so your videos will use WAV/PCM audio instead of the default AAC encoding. This can be great if you want higher quality audio in your videos or plan to process the audio later on. In addition below are some included info links about many of the talking points in this video. Enjoy.

    Thanks, am starting to add video to my mixes and figured it'd be good to get the PCM going like I do in Audacity, this video plus another I looked at for video settings, have gotten great results and massively lowered cpu usage on the old laptop I'm using :)

    How would you record in 24bit while still recording in mp4 for hardware acceleration?

    Instead of setting a fixed video bitrate, use these options for HEVC_NVENC in the "Video Encoder Settings (if any)" *** rc=constqp qp=20 profile=rext tier=high *** the QP value sets the quality, 20 is great quality, and you can go higher for more efficiency. Bitrate will vary dramatically depending on what you're recording. For games I usually use qp=35

    This was incredible it worked! I have a question, which preset should I use in Premiere Pro to make sure I retain this quality upon export? I want my video chain to be: OBS (recording, no streaming) --> Premiere Pro--> RUclips, and I don't want each step to visibly eat away the quality. Thank you so much if you get the time to answer this :)

    That codec is not in the list and amf one gives error.

    Hello! great video! For some reason I get an error saying "Failed to open video codec: Opereation not permitted". I'm using your same settings ffmpeg and x264 for streaming.

    Hi! Do you have a trick if i'm not interested in my 1080p 30 fps video quality BUT i would have a good audio quality? Could i put 7/8000 as video bitrate? Or does exist a mp4 with a pcm audio format? Davinci Resolve exports Mp4 with a maximum audio bitrate of 192kbps on Windows.
    :(

    Thanks, have been trying to figure out how to create files compatible with Premiere. MKV needs to be converted, and FLAC audio needs to be converted to PCM, so it makes more sense to start with MOV and PCM audio! Plus FLAC only does 16 bit

    • @mjodr
      @mjodr Год назад

      FLAC supports 24 and 32 bits per sample also. Whether or not OBS exposes this functionality is a different story. I'm assuming since it's just using ffmpeg you could just specify that in the "Audio Encoder Settings (if any)" field and it will behave. When recording I prefer to use the least compressed, lossless or uncompressed formats and then do my compression at the delivery stage. Packing the audio into FLAC, then throwing it into an NLE for it to possibly be uncompressed, then recompressed at the export phase is a waste. That's why guides like the OP are made. To record in an uncompressed format for editing and export later on. FLAC is great regardless.

      @daygeckoarthawaii1360 Год назад

      @@mjodr the standard FFMPEG parameters for FLAC don't work in OBS, you always get 16 bit. There's a thread on the OBS forums and no one has a resolution!

    • @mjodr
      @mjodr Год назад

      @@daygeckoarthawaii1360 Well that sucks balls, because it is a great format. Few other formats really compete with it, but I think Opus has been trying. I wonder if you try the Xaymar StreamFX plugin that seems to give you a more fully featured ffmpeg dll if it fixes the FLAC sample rate settings? OBS has been known to neuter the built in ffmpeg dll to reduce it's feature set for years. Very frustrating. Would be nice if it could just use my system-wide/global install of ffmpeg from the source and allow me to specify that in the advanced settings.

      @@mjodr I downloaded the beta 0.12.0 version and it installed but doesn't show up in the menu bar of OBS. I guess that's why they call it a beta...

      @@daygeckoarthawaii1360 He made a weird decision in his latest beta releases to ALSO require the beta version of OBS, that's why it didn't work. Need OBS 29.0.0-beta2 minimum.

    why not use the WAV container format?

      @@AtomicOverdrive but isn't that what you want when recording audio only?

    • @QuixoteX
      @QuixoteX 2 года назад +2

      @@James-sg8rb I believe his point is to get uncompressed audio with video, which is something that is not done by default (if at all) in most video software, and often requires tweaking settings, like OBS does.
      You could use the wav format, but if you are only recording audio you would probably be better off using dedicated audio software like Audacity or Protools, or other DAW. Those tend to default to uncompressed audio. If not it's usually easy to find the option.
