RIP Sir Alan Bates (February 17, 1934 - December 27, 2003), aged 69 RIP Glenda Jackson (May 9, 1936 - June 15, 2023), aged 87 RIP Oliver Reed (February 13, 1938 - May 2, 1999), aged 61 You will be remembered as legends.
It really wasn’t about Alan Bates, but about a beautifully written moment in the book in which Bates played the part of Birkin, and he did it very well…..
Actually its all about Rupert Birkin. And i've known 1 or 2 women like Gudren Brangwen. Nasty hardline feminist types , who fantasize about bringing down a man like Gerald Crich. Ursula was the sweetest of the pretentious bunch..
Why not concentrate on Lawrence’s beautiful writing…… Are we still embarrassed by it, do we find it awkward in todays odd world? As might one expect, we swerve around the dialogue, because it offends, and say, “ how lovely is Miss Jackson, how handsome is Alan Bates…..”.
I watched the King of Hearts about a million and twelve times when I was a kid so it took me awhile to realize that Alan Bates wasn't just a dork in a kilt.

still phenomenal these many years later. An eye popping movie, wonderful, sensuous, dare I say, scandalous. Lawrence would have loved it.
Shout out to our very own Mr. D H Lawrence who wrote the words Alan B speaks, they are from his poem Figs written in 1923…
I love thia movie I saw in 1971, and I'd like to see it again. Alan Bates and Oliver Reed are great actors.!
Despite the fact that this is supposed to be all about Alan Bates, one shot of Glenda Jackson and she owns it. She's just marvelous.
Icelandic! 🇮🇸😍
Not really. The scene is all about Alan Bates.
You're just hard for Glenda Jackson.

This just blew me away when I saw it.
Glenda jackson was such a beautiful woman, she absolutely deserved an oscar for "elizabeth is missing"
You don't get Oscars for television work...
(Sigh)
R.I.P. Glenda Jackson
Great Actor. Where is his Oscar nomination for this.
He was snubbed. However his only Oscar nomination was in 1968 for The Fixer.
RIP Alan Bates

He looks like the guy from drunk history to me
Is Rupert's appearance based on D.H Lawrence himself? They look so similar
Holy crap you’re right
Of course, in the novel the charrchter is a proxy for Lawrence
