- Purdue Pharma gets fined 8 billion for their involvement in the horrendous US opioid epidemic, but they made about 35 billion over the course of 20 years. The company marketed Oxycontin as being less than 1% addictive to patients (when reality it was closer to 40-50%). No jail, just a fine and go home. This is a great lesson for future medical professionals, don't trust big pharma.

Why do doctors listen to drug reps or even let them in the door?
I can't find a straight answer anywhere online for my question so out of desperation I'll just ask here. Why are corporations allowed to pay a fine for their crimes and be allowed to keep their doors open?
Headlines: "Israeli bank Hapoalim has been fined nearly $875 million." "Wells Fargo Agrees to Pay $3 Billion to Resolve Criminal and Civil Investigations." "To avoid prosecution, Chase bank agreed to pay $1.7 billion in restitution to Madoff’s victims." And on and on and on. Large corporations getting fined for fraud while allowed to keep their doors open and NO ONE goes to jail!

Just had a patient with 1700 pills of oxy in their bag ... she claimed that her “fibromyalgia” was acting up... that’s more pills than the hospital has on hand at any given time ... totally addicted

Hey Dr. Buck, I saw your video about Figs. I wanted to tell you that you nailed the video. I agree with all of your points. Doctors today (some of them) feel so entitled and have this savior image that everything they see wrong is objectively moraly wrong and if you dont agree with them, you're an opressor. This Black and White inforomal logical fallacy is so prevalent in today's society and Doctor's are falling for it. Part of the distrust of patients in Doctors is due to how we are seeing how immature and childish Doctors react to the smallest issues. We are done with our Doctors acting like children who throw a tantrum over small issues. Yeah Figs made a mistake, but it was a mistake and nothing more.
Keep up the brutaly honest message that you send Doc! Screw those snowflakes! :)

I wish you well. I was on tremadol after a surgery and hated it.. that is until 2 weeks later and noticed that I needed it when I was out of pills.

I'm searching everywhere but all of the answers are about how many hours do residents work
If you say the minimum and maximum time that you can work I'll be thankful
There’s no straight forward answer for this. It depends on your specialty or sub-specialty, whether you have a practice or are strictly a hospitalist, and your seniority and how many cases you want to work in a day. You could be on-call for 4 days straight and work somewhere near 48 hours in that time frame or you could only do a few cases a week. There are a lot of variables and it just depends exactly on the type of surgeon you are and what role you play in your group.
