Counsell brings in his closer and best Reliever, Devin Williams, to pitch the 9th inning even though the Brewers were trailing. Williams had a terrible inning walking 3 and allowing 2 runs, but more importantly he threw 31 pitches, and I doubt he is available for tomorrow's game. There's nothing to accomplish by bringing in your closer when trailing. If you want to keep the deficit at one run, you will have to have confidence in a different Reliever. Because isn't it more important to have your closer available for game 2? Of course it is. Even if Williams pitches a scoreless inning, there's no guarantee the Brewers comeback anyways. Counsell took a huge risk, and now he has used up his closer... for nothing. Bad managing in my opinion. P.S. I'm not a fan of either team. But of course, Counsell's move is not even close to being as bad as Cubs manager Joe Maddon in the 2016 World Series when he kept Aroldis Chapman in the game to the start the 9th inning in game 6 with the Cubs leading 9-2 at the time, and knowing game 7 was the next day.
