he could've won one without fed, but roddick was at most gonna maybe bag 3-4 majors even without federer, i think the younger guys like wawrinka, tsonga and berdych are all better than him
@@Lil7672 US open 2003 he won. Wimbledon 2004 he played a pretty good final, so I think he likely would have won that. In wimbledon 2005, he did not play as well as 2004 final. So it was not guaranteed he would have won that one but possible. US open 2006 I think he could have gotten. AO 2007 he might have been able to beat Gonzales. US Open 2007, don't know if he would have beaten Djokovic who already at the time was seeded 3 and playing well. Wimbledon 2009 he would have definitely won this one for sure. He was playing really well in the finals and beat Murray and Hewitt to get to the final. I would say he would have likely won US Open 2006 and Wimbledon 2004/2009 in addition to us open 2003 slam that he actually won. There are of course others he might have also been able to get, but I would say 4 for sure and maybe 2-3 more. I am also sure if he had won some of these he would have confidence to win more than just those 4, so that's why I would say in the 5 slam range. I would say Andy is better on fast surfaces than Wawrinka but wawrinka is definitely better on slower surfaces. Wawrinka was able to beat Djokovic in route to all his slams which is amazing and got three, so I would rate Wawrinka higher since his peak was higher. Tsonga and Berdych are/were also very good players who were consistent to make it deep in slams, but got stopped by big 3 a lot.
@@Divvy21 idk man that was a lot of big "if" I don't like his chances after 07 anymore other than that 09 wimby cuz nadal had started to figure it out on hard and nole and murrah were coming
Andy gets alot of hate from American tennis fans because of how spoiled we were with players like Connors, McEnroe, Sampras, Agassi, Courier, etc etc since he didn't reach their lofty standards...but he was a great player, and if it weren't for Fed he would have won Wimbledon multiple times. That said, I do think him making the change to a topspin heavy forehand instead of the flat missile it used to be (think Del Potro) was a huge mistake
definitely. he got overcoached later in his career when he should've just stuck with the aggressive, instinctive hitting and physical baseline game that got him to no.1
@@seaneckhart9914 you're the one talking out your ass. i've been a huge tennis fan since the 90s and roddick had that aggressive hitting style until he started getting coached by connors in 06. he won the '03 US OPEN and no.1 ranking hitting hard serves and forehands and doing his damndest to blow his opponents off the court.

If Roger, Novak and Rafa were 23.24 years old today, none of these young players could win against them. It's just a reality, the only problem is the years, in my opinion, players like Tsonga and Berdych are better than all these young people today players (Medvedev, Rublev, Tsitsipac etc ...) not to mention Safin, Roddick, Hewitt. But sadly most of those players dont play anymore and today you cant compare 37 years old Tsonga against 24 years old Rublev
I enjoy this tennis and even older, but I think even Challenger Tour has a higher pace and intensity than this today. The evolution of the last two decades is undeniable
To be fair Roddick was young and ranked lower. They guys on top ie agassi sampras hewitt etc were hitting bigger at that time. But yes you’re right the pace has increased
@@jeffhermida4788 what you say is absolutely true, but seems to me that someone with the shots of Shapovalov or Rublev, for instance, would have killed even them hahaha. Certainly the nowadays training and resources (rackets, strings, etc) opened a whole new range of shots for the players
Problem with Roddick was that he never develops any weapon other than his serve. His forehand looked promising, but then he decided that he wanted to be an all-rounder as oppose to Serve + Forehand combo. He couldn’t compete with the big 3 without any real weapon.
Vicente is Rublev's actual coach, as a fun fact.

His shoulder not being healthy for majority of his career was reason he began that "spinny" forehand as he put it
@@peachman5698 Yes exactly. He has mentioned before on his podcast how he had to rethink his forehand to accomodate his shoulder.
wow I think Roddick was way better at this age. Better technique and better decision making. What do you guys think?

Rafa and Nole raised the physical bar of the game so high in the last decade
