I know it’s a year late, but as someone who did experience child trafficking, I can tell you that the majority of it happens through people you know, not kidnappers, at least in developed countries. It’s a lot more common to blackmail or manipulate children into the trade than kidnap them, because a) that’s suspicious and b) manipulation will create shame and fear around speaking out about experiences. If there’s one lesson that should come from this, it’s that keeping children safe from trafficking means watching who they’re with and when. I hope this raises more awareness about the issue, but from what I’ve seen, it just created a lot more confusion around what trafficking really is, and has made it more difficult for me and other survivors like me to explain that we are legitimate victims even though we were not abducted.

No, instead the video she put out seemed very genuine and passionate. I could really feel how angry and frustrated she was that people kept spreading her picture around and perpetuating a narrative that she’s missing. This is not the type of video that seemed orchestrated or pre-scripted. Again, all of her reactions in that video seemed very genuine to me and like all of the other things Charlie mentioned, the whole conspiracy doesn’t make a lot of sense.
