Actually since recording the video I decided to hold off for one more MacBook update, not because I don't love it but my current machine still feels a bit too new. If I were to order one though, this is probably what it would look like: 2.3GHz 8-core 9th-generation Intel Core i9 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.8GHz 32GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6 memory 2TB SSD storage
Photographer here as well. The i7 is plenty fast and can save you some cash. Especially with Metal and other optimizations, the 5500M is the more important upgrade. I've played with these processors before in pc laptops (did some test drives) and the difference isn't that noticeable. Personally, render times and processing don't really bother me, I can always do email in the background or something. It's system responsiveness that is my main deal and the i9 does little to improve it.
Tyler Stalman I have the ultra fine displays also but my MacBook 15in 2019 get really hot when I use chrome or any other app like FCP. If I don’t use anything and have it connected it stays warm and or gets hot as well. Does your MacBook also get hot? I’m thinking about just getting a Mac Mini for the display instead. I’m afraid I’ll overcharge my MacBook and that It will get too hot and damage the internals. What’s your experience like?
Noel Ramirez-Duarte I’m in the market for a monitor for my 2019 13” MBP. Due to recent transition to online classes I need more screen. I’m wondering why your computer gets warm while connected to the external monitor. I’ll be doing some virtual desktop solid works but for the most part just want to have Zoom lectures accessible while also being able to type and google and review notes at the same time. In order to not run hot should I look for a screen with its own graphics card that matches the computer? I’m pretty out of my element
I went for the 24" LG Ultrafine and I find that to be the sweet spot for the MacBook Pro. I think many photo and video editors would find that to be enough screen space/resolution. The 27" LG display also draws more power and graphics performance than the 24", so for users with older MBPs or lower graphics cards, the 24" (at the default scaling resolution) might not stress their MBP hardware as much.
Carlos I find this to be true. I have a base 16” MacBook Pro and I find that it hot really quickly while using the 27” ultra fine; however I have seen it doesn’t greatly affect performance. But when I use my 13” MacBook Pro with the ultrafine my fans turn on and it takes a pretty decent dip in performance.
I still use my MBP 13” since 2012. I jumped ship and got a MS Surface Pro 2017- i7/8GB/256GB, 2 23” Acer monitors, and the MX Master 3 Mouse. I love my setup because I can use my surface pro as a tablet and a laptop. You couldn’t do that with a MBP. You have to type all of your notes but with the SP you can take the keyboard off and with the integrated kickstand use it as a tablet taking notes via pen on OneNote.
Loved the video! If I can throw in my suggestion, if your order one for Lightroom the first performance upgrade is suggest is going from 16GB to 32Gb of RAM We saw a 20% performance improvement with other specs being the same and that’s without a bunch of chrome apps running taking up memory lol. Going to order one of those keyboards!!
Good to know, thanks Max! Lately it feels like the best performance upgrade I could make is to stop using Lightroom 😁 I did some Lightroom tests on the Mac Pro and saw it using 90GB of ram, which is just insane. And btw, there are a few sizes of keyboard too if you're not as space constrained as I am

it's ok, not really special though, you can do much better like taking the monitor up with a monitor+ laptop holder and a keyboard and mouse down to a shelf where now you can use like 3 books, I'm still searching for something better though
Don’t agree with the hard drive space. Way too expensive and getting a USB-C External hard drive can be just as good. 3TB for $89 versus 8TB for $2200 that Apple robs from you makes a huge difference.

I know that it might drain a little bit your battery and stills shows 100%, however, that could damage the battery. I wonder if they could upgrade the output of the 5k UltraFine to 96w or if it’s limited by hardware to 94w.
@@ajrc1987 I think technically around 85W. I was worried about that too when I ordered my 16" MBP but so far I haven't noticed any issues. I edited photos and video for hours at a time and haven't had any issues with battery draw or charging rate.
Good to know, thanks for the info. I would like to know the experience from a 5k UltraFine user with a 94w output.
@@ajrc1987 No prob. I guess my point was that if the 24" had no issues, I would think the 27" would be the same or even better for power charge rate.
how many meters is the desk?
I have an older MacBook Pro. If You News Final Cut x, okay Than You Need a MacBook. But for Others Guys an PC or Notebook so The Same cheaper
it's ok, not really special though, you can do much better like taking the monitor up with a monitor+ laptop holder and a keyboard and mouse down to a shelf where now you can use like 3 books, I'm still searching for something better though
If you can vesa mount the screen it would be so nice
What’s the desk called pls
at 1:32 what happened to your hand? Did you mask out the Mic?
1:42 shows up though xd
Don’t agree with the hard drive space. Way too expensive and getting a USB-C External hard drive can be just as good. 3TB for $89 versus 8TB for $2200 that Apple robs from you makes a huge difference.
When you reference your audio from your videos, what is your volume reference point? I find it difficult to get the volume right if I am wearing headphones before exporting! Appreciate the response!
Just subbed
Hi, Guys! Can anyone tell, how you turning on your closed macbook which is staying in a holder like in video?
