Very exciting and very expensive
Tons of fun flying helicopters. For those that learn, there are VERY different emercency reactions that you have to unlearn to fly helicopters. No pushovers for one. That detaches the rotor blade from the helo. They are a challenge to fly but worth the effort!
I was taught you want to still get the cyclic forward on take off just not as dramatic. Mast bumping is definitely not fun
You only have that kind of an issue with semi-rigid rotor systems.
Maybe Christy could fly into Oshkosh this year in a helicopter, jump out, and parachute into show center. Just a thought. 🤣
I’d love to get my Helicopter Pilot licence…… just need the money to do so 🤣
My daughter-in-law gave me a helicopter lesson last year (she's a CFI and charter pilot, and former Army Blackhawk pilot). Lots of fun, but hovering is definitely challenging. I greatly respect the skills of a good helicopter pilot!
I did it the other way; helicopter commercial and instrument-to-airplane transition. Good to see you on the show Eric and RTAG, ICARUS, Go Army!
+1 for ICARUS and RTAG!!! This system without a doubt saves lives.
Go Army!!! 🇺🇸
There needs to be a series of Christy's helicopter experience!
I’m hoping that BrYan is getting a discovery jump too!
Excellent episode Dan and Christy. I have never been in a heli, but definitely want to check it out someday. Christy should definitely take a heli discovery flight, and video it. Keep up the excellent work. Safe skies my friends 🇺🇸🛩️
Such good information! Since my first helicopter ride last year I have been wondering about a helicopter add on. Thank you!
Christy is afraid & terrified of everything in life. What's the deal? I love that Randy had Pitts Special time before helicopters. Aerobatic pilots do well with helicopter transition. Airshow pilots Sean Tucker and the Bulldog Jim LeRoy were both helicopter pilots. I have time in R22 & R44 Robinson. Lots of fun. Every airplane pilot should have helicopter & rotorcraft time. Gyroplane flying is also a ton of fun. It's makes you a better pilot.
👍✅ Same here Dan, lots of flights in choppers but no stick time. Always imagined it would be too difficult but after this not so sure.
In flight I found helicopters similar. The hard part is hovering, approaches, takeoffs and autos.
Me too
If you have not been around the field at Airventure in the Bell 47… you have not seen Airventure!
Dan you asked a question about IFR experience in helicopters. Most pilots start off working single piloted. For a rotorcraft to be single piloted IFR the aircraft requires a stabilization system in the pitch and roll axis. There are very few single piloted IFR certified helicopters, majority being turbine powered. If the helicopter does not have a Stabilization system then it requires two pilots in order to go IMC as long as the aircraft is certified for IFR and the pilots are current and rated.
Very interesting. I didn't realize most required two pilots for IMC.
@@TakingOff only if the aircraft is unstabilized. Most of the larger helicopters have two pilots and are stabilized for added safety.
I fly both and have been since I was 19. It's really not that hard...
ACS for helos being released this year.
Hey, nice to see another show about helicopters. Do they still “scare the bejesus” out of Christy?
Christy should parachute from the helicopter.
Thumbs up 👍
Mosaic will allow light sport pilots to get a light sport helicopter endorsement. Will have to see what kinds of new helicopters come after new rule becomes law
