1st, I want to tell you that I love all of your videos. They take my mind off of stuff while I watch. I wish I could do what you do. I love the outdoors. Next I want to say is that I live not to far from where you did the Hackensack River with the submarine. I actually took a tour of the inside when it was a museum back in the 80s, I was like 6 years old. I live like 10 minutes from there. If you're ever in my area again, I can be your driver. I am a lyft driver. Thank you for all your videos.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate it. 😀 I try my best to leave no trace and usually try to leave the places I explore better than I found it. ☺️
I probably make the trash 🗑 🔥 go bye-bye in a fire & recycled ♻️ the rest ,...as for pancakes 🥞 the thicker the batter the thicker & fluffier the pancakes, thinner the batter ,makes thin pancakes, ironically the wet thin pancakes cook faster than thick pancakes, probably the sign for the camera was for migratory seabird or birds for the nesting season, sometimes they put cameras or hidden trail cameras
Terrific, Matt! Regarding the negative comments, including those about New York City: The main reason I faithfully watch your videos is your positivity. You find beauty and interest even in the most unexpected places and situations. New York certainly has its difficulties but doesn't every city and town? We should all aspire to be kind and reverential like you.
THANK YOU!! You are so kind and I really appreciate you. I 100% agree. There's no perfect paradise. We have to find our own paradise in the world. Every town and every community has its own challenges.
I find it fascinating to see natural land formations / islands in your videos, that are surrounded by NY City. I can imagine native Americans once using the island for fishing etc, and early pioneers exploring and camping where you set your tent up. Fun stuff.
Thank you for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it. That's exactly how I feel. I love the history of these islands, and it makes me think about how things were before the city.
You're in a fabulous groove Skipper Matt, wayfarer too and camper of the rental vans and ghost boats. Thank you young Man. It was another great escape for me to see in the comfort of my perch at home as a recluse while you channel Sir Earnest Shackleton for the world to follow. These NYC Metro waterfront mazes you traverse (and even Jersey down in Camden for the Barnegat light ship!) have all been crossed and paired for many years and far more miles by me in a tractor trailer but I seldom touched the water. But as you go, so goes your happy audience. The trash pick up emphasis is what young people need to see on your adventures, Matt. Maturity in leadership is not the trend in America these days, but you've got it in spades.
@manuelferreira1363 I LOVE this comment and am so grateful for you! You are the ideal subscriber, and I think of your comments when I'm making my videos. You don't just watch some of my videos. You watch ALL of the from beginning to end. You always leave amazing comments, too. THANK YOU ❤️
Great video as usual! I could feel a lot of eyes watching you from those Tower Blocks!! Always incredible how you see nobody in these highly populated areas, you would think there would be at least one local roughing it on the Island.
I love your toys from your foldable kayak to your inflatable boat that's the ultimate fleet because I laugh when I see people with motor boats because they never look happy on them people have way more fun with kayaks because we can get into tight narrow places they can't plus those motor boats are to much maintenance 😅😂 & by the way no more cooking in the kitchen I'm off griding off the griddle outside and loving those food smells and tastes in my tent camp
@perryfaz9839 Well, I guess the saying goes, "the two happiest days of a boaters life is the day he buys the boat and the day he get rid of it." Nature makes me happy and the kayak / packrafts are tools to get me there. I also love hiking on my own "Two Feet" as well. 😀 Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
an empty island is a great island. That whole region was beautiful deciduous..we ruined it. I used to say "they". but who am I kidding. I am glad to see you find gems and peaceful within.
I'm glad you appreciate the beauty that's still there. 😊 I agree with you completely. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it.
I love your videos. It's like you go where most people do not go & I'm here for it! 😂❤❤❤🎉 I got hooked watching the small river/creel-like videos around the hugh city. Fascinating to me. We would never see 👀 this stuff without you. ❤Stay safe my Friend 🧡 😊
Thanks Matt another great video for me whos over ten thousand Miles away from Home to have a virtual visit. That whole area has so many memories from my Youth. I remember going to Freedomland which was where Coop city now sits. Be Safe Brother and stay warm.
tiny island camping, totally thought you were going to say biscuits and gravy on the breakfast. Doing your part to clean up nature is a great thing. thank you. That rock is a cool spot too thanks for sharing.
Yes, there are some shallow and rocky spots in the upper area that make it unnavigatable, but I was just scouting out the furtherest northern spot that I can begin paddling south. I think I found a good spot to launch. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it. Another Hutchinson River paddle is on my to-do list. I want to paddle the most urban / industrial section.
@maybebabyny That's awesome! Do you know an approx cross street? I was looking in the area where there's a pedestrian bridge crossing the river to some ball fields.
Thank you 😊 I should have made silver dollar pancakes. Lol. They would have been easier to flip. My spatula is so small for my camping pan. I love the combo, but it is kind of small. Hahaha. I'm glad I was entertaining to watch! 😀
@mansize6622 Thank you for the kind words. I put a lot of effort into planning my trips. I'm always looking at maps, watching the weather, thinking about safety, and pondering proper gear for each trip. I really appreciate you watching and commenting. Thank you 😊
Great video. I drive up and down the Hutch almost daily. Every time I pass the island , I’ll think of this video and the fact you took the time to clean up the trash. I used to hike along the Hutch north bound from Pelham Bay, along i95, crossing over by Split Rock and then back down Shore Rd to Pelham Bay Park passing Glover Rock on the way. The trash we picked up along the way back then would fill a bag or two. Not sure what it would be now. Btw - you should check out Hunter Island and Rodmans Neck, good trails and sights to see of the Sound.
Thanks for sharing your memories, it's amazing how much change happens over time. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it. Thank you for the kind words.
Your one brave soul Matt for taking that trip on your packraft you would never catch me in a inflatable there are just too many things that can go wrong and puncture those things. I agree with you Matt New York is one beautiful place there's none like it . Matt aren't you afraid that mice might nibble at your raft or tent, it happens to me when I go camping in the Adirondacks. Like the split Rock history segment a little bit of knowledge can't hurt anyone and congrats on your 15,000 once again awesome job you always deliver. Oh yeah that looked more like a turkey instead of a 🪿 Till the next one God bless Matt
I agree with you, the city can be a bit intimidating! Thank you so much for watching, commenting, and your kind words. 😀 I didn't see any mice or rats on the island but it did cross my mind. Life is an adventure and anything can happen. All I can do is plan properly and tackle one challenge at a time. If I worried about everything that could go wrong, I'd never leave the house. 😅😂😊
@@TwoFeetOutdoors So true spoken like a true Outdoorsman....like the saying goes live and learn👍🥴 there's nothing like a big roll of flex tape or duct tape can't fix 🥴😵💫
Matt, thank you for all of the amazing videos you upload to the channel. This little island has quite a history. “Mammy Goose” lived on the island for a number of years and two of her husbands are buried on the island. I wonder if some of the remnants you found were from her home or some of the other structures. Anyway, thanks for the great videos!
Dude I wish to find you someday just so I could wish you happy rafting. I live in COOP city. As a cyclist, I see all of New York City. Goose Island didn't know it had a name.
I live in Co-op City and stumbled across this video. I frequently see people kayaking on the Hutch (we never bother saying the full name) and jet skis in the summer. It is nice to see the tiny islands being explored safely and respectfully in a long form video. Looking forward to further videos if you get to New Rochelle and other areas I have lived in.
Wow, this it so awesome! The Hutch, good to know! 🤗 Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it. Here's a video paddling around Pelham Bay Park, the Lagoon and other tiny islands. ruclips.net/video/rj8HijgxzuI/видео.htmlsi=J8iJKR3E83sLFw_r
When I saw you w/ the propane burner @16:23 I knew Chef Matt was cooking some goodies! pan cakes 32:42 looks good too. I wanted to buy the 2nd pancake from you thru the screen Lol. enjoy this trip as always Thanks.🍺🍺🍺
I've had a lot of comments recently requesting some cooking in my videos. So, I figured a fun overnight trip to an island in the Bronx would work. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it as always. Cheers!! 🍻🍻
Matt, enjoy your videos especially those to islands. As spring approaches the nesting season for birds can begin as early as March. Please remember that many islands have restricted access during the nesting season so as not to disturb nesting wildlife. Please be aware of these restrictions if any and when they are in effect. Also, many islands that have no restrictions may still have nesting birds so please be cognizant of that. As for a suggestion on an expedition, how about a paddle to Romer Shoal lighthouse or West Bank lighthouse? It's an open water paddle through navigation channels but could be awesome.
Thanks for the tip! I always try to be mindful of nesting birds and wildlife, and I’ll definitely keep this in mind when planning future trips. I really appreciate this comment. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Also, thank you for the suggestions. I will keep them on my to-do list. 🦅🐦⬛🐦🦃🦉🐥
You're welcome. I'm originally from the Jersey shore but live on NH/MA coast. Plenty of islands with nesting birds and pupping gray seals and harbor seals. We have to be aware that when paddling you can quietly approach and disturb mother and pup seals separating them so there's an ethical responsibility to share the coast with all living things. You are very respectful so its appreciated. You should also check out the Boston Harbor Islands for paddling and camping. You'd like paddling to Boston Lighthouse. You'd also like the Maine Island Trail. Plenty of islands to paddle and camp on. Many very remote.
Thank you so much. We have seals in certain areas of NYC and on Long Island. I'm very familiar with them. Thank you again for watching and commenting. 🦭🦭🦭
Absolutely love your videos. Living in this area and seeing all these places right in my backyard is amazing and motivates me to get out in my kayak and adventure more!! Thank you for the amazing content you put out week after week!!
Love your videos, my wife and I are looking into getting at least a 2 person inflatable kayak for the warmer months because of your videos. Have you considered going out to David's Island off of New Rochelle? It has an interesting history. Keep up the great content!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it. David's Island is definitely on my radar. I believe they removed all the buildings that were on the island but I'm sure it's still very interesting. Thanks again!
Congrats on the 15k Matt. I'm always a little split because I love how your channel is now, but you also deserve to blow up more. It's nice that you're able to respond to us at the moment, but if you got a lot bigger, I'm not sure that would be practical. Either way, another great one, and if at some point, you get too much traffic to respond to all of us, know that (I'll speak for myself), I get it, and I'll keep watching.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I really appreciate it. I hope you continue to enjoy my videos. I agree, I definitely want the channel to grow, and at some point, I won't be able to keeps up with responding to all the comments. I will always be in tune with the comments because it's important to me to see what viewers are saying. I'm going to always be me and "police" the comments as well. Every once in a while, commenter's go rogue and have to be dealt with. 😂🚨👮♀️👮♂️

Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I appreciate it. I've been enjoying pancakes since I had a sample mini pancake at Costco and bought a box of pancake mix and syrup. 🤣🤣🤣🥞
If you credit the story by Dr. Theodore Kazimiroff, an amateur historian of The Bronx, an older Native lived rough in Pelham Bay Park in the 1920's, a man who was born in Manhattan about the time of the Civil War and would have been about 60 when Kazimiroff, who would have been about college age (maybe) supposedly met him. The Native, a man named Joe, supposedly told Kazimiroff that before he died, he wanted to live on his people's land and try to live off it. Trouble was, his people's land was supposedly where Rye Playland is, so Joe had to settle for a place on the Sound (or close by) that was still essentially wilderness. Your camping out on that small island put me in mind of that.
Nice vid! I watched the whole thing. Thanks for the tidbit on Anne Hutchinson and Split Rock. Never knew that she was the name behind the namesake of Hutchinson River and, of course, the parkway. Reading about Split Rock lead me down a rabbit hole of John Glover and early American history. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for watching and commenting! I really appreciate it. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found some interesting info on the history of the area. I really appreciate you watching the whole video!!
Haha i looked away for a second and then there was a whole tent 😂😮 I guess you must be very warm I’d freeze within an hour. I really appreciate you put in the celsius temperature as well. I guess the weather is similar to Stockholm.
Hey there Matt great to see you on another adventure as I'm sure you're never gonna run out of different places to go to that we didn't see, I guess American Indians used to frequent these little islands back in the day maybe hunt ducks on them or fish from them to,Nice views of those tall apt.buildings around you as surely crowded with many apts. In them but thats NYC the one and only,Have you ever had to get congested traffic fees they're charging now? thats crazy but maybe it'll help with less vehicles on the roads, anyways love a good pancake breakfast with pure maple syrup!🤪 My favorite! And that historic Hutchison split rock story is very interesting to Ok Matt can't wait till your next adventure it's so relaxing to watch them as always thanks for taking us along and take care!🙏🧿❤️🙋😢
Thanks for watching and commenting! I appreciate it so much. I do have to pay tolls in certain areas just about every time I make a video, but the new congestion pricing is only for visiting Lower Manhattan. Tolls are frustrating, and they add up. 💰🤑💸💲💵
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it. Overall, it was more clean than lots of places I visited. I left it even more sparkling clean. ✨️ 😀 Thank you for watching all the way from England.
Another great video!! Lived in NYC my whole life and never heard of that Island. Your videos are amazing, I get to see Islands I only heard stories about. Would love to Metal detect there wonder if I’d find anything. Stay safe and keep up the amazing adventures.
Matt Another great video! I now live in PA, and I originally grew up in Whitestone, and spent many of days in the Bronx getting Bait & Tackle at Jacks. Funny it's the only borough called "The Bronx"
The origin goes bac, k in history. The Bronx is named after Jonas Du Bronk, who had a farm or manor ( depends on who You talk to) in i believe what now is Riverdale. They described it as 'Du Broncks' which became The Bronx. It was a section of Westchester Originally then became part of what was then Manhattan county , then in 1890 became a part of greater NYC was a borough.
Great content showing what more the concrete jungle can offer, thank you. Always a great experience and enjoyment to watch your content. You are also a great role model to collect other people's trash from the islands and waterways. Wish we had more people like you. Would you be able to let me know how come you opted for the pack raft instead of the orukayak? Is it because of the 'inventory'? Thank you again!
@@casperrealov I recently bought the packraft just as another fun piece of adventure gear. I got a great deal on it. It's not replacing my kayak at all. Just switched it up. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
I wanted a split Nathans hot dog and 2 eggs with those pancakes haha. I'd camp on those islands to if I was out there, I actually enjoyed the refinery smell of the NJ area when I was trucking there 3 decades ago.
@@marvingooden2232 Wow, thank you so much for your kind words. It means a lot to me. Anytime I publish a new video, it's great to hear someone say it's their favorite. I really appreciate you watching and commenting.
50:4150:41 Wow another great video these are addicting! I lived in the Bronx for almost 10 years, both my parents grew up there, thought i knew a lot, learn new things every day! I didn' t even know about Goose Island. If you were there in the 19th century, you could have waded out into the water and gotten yourself a ton of clams and oysters ( they are still there, oysters have made a comeback , but because of industrial polution and issues with sewage, it is not safe to eat rhem, probably never will be again. They routinely find huge mounds of oyster shells and clam shells from the natives around tne nyc area, i am sure they found them when they built orchard beach in the 30s ( where orchard beach is now, working men used to build shacks there where they would fish and drink in the warmer weather. I highly recommend bringing some canned clam chowder with you ( heinz used to make a good one, so did progresso),there is nothing like it at dinner by the water). Glad you found split rock , i never found it is when i explored pelham bay park, amazing it still exists, that it survived the building of the highways. Wild that you were camping right by co op city. Where co op city is was the site of a theme park called freedom land, that was intended to be a rival of disneyland. It was built in the shape of the us and had things like a recreation of the chicago fire, a riverboat ride, an old west town, and a section dedicated to space flight. Big name acts would play there. It never made money and was open from 1960 to 1964. It was expensive to build and bc it only was open in the summer it couldnt generate enough revenue, plus it also lacked traditional amusement rides, so ppl went once then never went back. One theory was that it was built to get city approval to build there, then replace it with commercial and housing development. It had the same problem co op.city has had, it was built on a salt marsh, and the buildings of freedom land and co op city both had a lot of problem with buildings settling and cracking due to not properly driving pilimgs likely . You were a brave man paddling in those winds, they were pretty strong. I cant believe how tiny the pack raft is for a talk guy like you:)
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you watching and commenting. Split Rock is cool. I thought it would be good to include it in the video. I heard about it from someone in the comments of my Hutchinson River video. Thanks again!
Thank you so much! The storage zipper is definitely really cool. It's an upgrade. Not all packrafts have it. Minor zipper maintenance (zipper lube) required occasionally. Freedom Land must have been really cool. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it.
@@TwoFeetOutdoors ... good info about the zipper ... hard to comprehend that was once Freedom land - now has a population larger than the entire state of Wyoming ...
@roger3786 That's pretty crazy right! Co-op City is a city within a city for sure. The packraft is a fun new adventure toy, but it's not replacing my kayak. The zipper storage is really cool. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
You have some awesome explores my friend.. If I ever get back up to NY I want to hook up with ya on a venture.. your video made me get up and make pancakes to🤣🤣🤣🤣
I had family that used to live in Co-oP City up until the late 80's ( Elgar place). The apartments (and area) are very nice (read - safe.) My Dad - a guy from the Bronx used to work @ FreedomLand for about 2 years. Anyways, great video!

Matt hello. Bryan here from NJ. I've been a subscriber for almost a year now. I love watching your outdoor aquatic excursions. It's a great stress reliever for me. It's kinda' like I'm out there with ya on the water, lol. Down here at the shore in Ocean County is the Barnegat Bay and in the bay between Waretown & LBI is a small piece of land called Clam Island. It's very small but even at high tide does not cover over. It would be great to see you paddle out there and stay over one night. Of course you research everywhere you're going to stay, maybe check it out and see if it's doable? I await your next outing sir! 🤟🏻😋🤟🏻
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the suggestion. I will definitely look into it. So many of my videos are because of suggestions. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Here, here, Matt. You attempted to leave a place better than you found it. Wouldnt it be great if the public did the same? On another note..I think this island could use some coniferous vegetation....to ivercome sll that gnarly invasive woody vine.
Yes, there's so many interesting islands in that area. I'm always scouting future content. Thank you for the suggestion. I really appreciate you watching and commenting.
Thanks for another adventure Matt, too bad they stole the historical marker at Split-Rock, but hey, they stole a subway train in "The taking of Pelham 123"!! Stay safe!!

@tranquility9325 Where is here? This body of water was just recently frozen and thawed out. We had a lot of ice here recently. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
Interesting video. Thanks for taking us along. 1810 A huge flock of geese would inhabit the island every year. 1845 Mr&Mrs Tice moved on the island because she told her husband: "This is where i will make my home". They leased the island for $1 a year in taxes. Mr Tice passed away&is buried there close to where the house was. Mrs.Tice to make money to live by hosted fishing parties with clams&beer. The fishermen called her"Mammy Goose"hence thereafter. Another man who lived with her for a bit was an alcoholic by accounts&while drunk he tried to swim;then drowned. Mrs.Tice buried him next to Mr.Tice. (Two graves on the island) 1890 a freind of Mrs.Tice moved her to his hotel due to her having consumption(tuberclulosis) & she passed away in her room. Mr.Tice cleared the island, built a nice home&planted fruit trees.
@TwoFeetOutdoors You're welcome&thank you for your efforts in creating such good content. I've always been interested in the history;wanted to know&see more of these wonderful places that you take us to-now we have a great channel that does exactly that. Thanks again Boss&safe travels.
Not sure if this is entirely true but I did read that Mrs. Tice made a deal with the Hotel owner that if she could live free room and board at the Hotel she would will the Island to the owner. He drew up the papers and she spent years living at his Hotel and when she died and he investigated how to register the deed with the island the city informed him Tice did not own the island. The Hotel owner had been Goosed!
@@maybebabyny It was mentioned that she did will the island to the captain who also owned the hotel on city island but a discrepancy arose where at the time the tax office said she never paid the yearly taxes while on the island& so they revoked her old lease.Oddly enough years later the tax office said she did indeed pay her taxes up to her death. The captain had started building a new dock to continue having fishing parties partake on the island but was halted by said tax office thinking they would get the revenue instead. The captain was said to have been a close freind when bringing Mrs.Tice to his hotel&also having employed her husband Mr.Tice for decades before his death.
It would be nice to have a fire, but I feel like that kind of goes against leaving no trace. I try to leave no trace wherever I go and try to leave places better than I found it. The Hutchinson River starts in Scarsdale New York and flows 10 miles and then it empties into Eastchester Bay in Long Island Sound.
I've taken it up to what I believe was White Plains.
@maybebabyny That's awesome! Do you know an approx cross street? I was looking in the area where there's a pedestrian bridge crossing the river to some ball fields.

Your one brave soul Matt for taking that trip on your packraft you would never catch me in a inflatable there are just too many things that can go wrong and puncture those things.
I traveled many different places internationally for work. And to me NYC is the capital of the world.
Thank you so much! I 💯% respect your opinion. 🎯🎯

Matt Another great video! I now live in PA, and I originally grew up in Whitestone, and spent many of days in the Bronx getting Bait & Tackle at Jacks. Funny it's the only borough called "The Bronx"
Yeah, it's not like we say, the Brooklyn or the queens. 😀 Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
The origin goes bac, k in history. The Bronx is named after Jonas Du Bronk, who had a farm or manor ( depends on who
You talk to) in i believe what now is Riverdale. They described it as 'Du Broncks' which became The Bronx. It was a section of Westchester
Originally then became part of what was then Manhattan county , then in 1890 became a part of greater NYC was a borough.

50:41 50:41 Wow another great video these are addicting!

1810 A huge flock of geese would inhabit the island every year.
1845 Mr&Mrs Tice moved on the island because she told her husband:
"This is where i will make my home".
(Two graves on the island)
1890 a freind of Mrs.Tice moved her to his hotel due to her having consumption(tuberclulosis)
& she passed away in her room.
Mr.Tice cleared the island,built a nice home&planted fruit trees.

How could you NOT make a fire???? Was that the raft you punctured on the Bronx river a few videos back?
It would be nice to have a fire, but I feel like that kind of goes against leaving no trace. I try to leave no trace wherever I go and try to leave places better than I found it. If I needed an emergency fire for warmth, that would be fine, but I had enough to stay warm on my own. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it. Yes, same packraft. I patched it. It's all good!
@@TwoFeetOutdoors yup, you made due without
I really love your stuff so coo
Cool
Thank you 😊
Thank you 😊
Another enjoyable video! I love the water!
Wonder what kind of structure was on the island and what it was used for? Something had to be there important enough to have a security camera at one time, I guess. Very interesting!
I usually see birds lining that island, I'm so surprised there weren't any when you arrived. I love my area, people are often surprised the Bronx has such beauty❤
I was surprised too! Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it. 😊 Here's a video that shows the beauty of the Bronx, too. I paddle around Pelham Bay Park, the lagoon, and other tiny islands. ruclips.net/video/rj8HijgxzuI/видео.htmlsi=qpeSXI-Te5Fb67Tr

🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for making me laugh. I really appreciate it. I have so many funny responses I could add but, I'll leave it at THANK YOU. I appreciate the humor.
