As a recovering drug addict who has been through counseling... No Counsellor should ever get personally involved with a client ever
For real, you pour your heart and soul out to these people, so it only takes a tiny bit of effort to weaponise that information. Any counsellor sexually involved with their client should have their license revoked. It’s a clear abuse of power over a vulnerable person.

Speaking from experience the guy probably isn’t an “elder” in the synagogue. When he mentioned “he has it in his bloodline” his family probably went to the Synagogue for x amount of years. A Rabbi wouldn’t joke around about “who’s holier” with him. He’s just a busy-body who spends too much time there that he thinks he’s an elder and everyone’s annoyed with him but they’re being polite to him. He probably went up to her and lied about his position or talked himself up.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Growing up, I knew a bunch of ‘elders’ who were just retirees stuck in everyone else’s business. My mom called one out for putting moves on my recently widowed grandma - temple leeches are just gross in every way.
I was sure this guy is scum! Making inappropriate jokes, putting down the husband, even trying to flex on Dr. Phil!

I asked my uncle who’s a counsellor about this issue. I don’t know if this is the rule everywhere, but where we live, in order to have a relationship with your client(Not that you should), you have to close their file and you can’t see or have any contact with them for 2 years. If you meet them again by chance, then it’s no longer considered unethical because they’re not your client anymore. But that’s only the rule in our area.
He’s not a real counselor, he’s just a religious hack.

So I’m a psychology major. He said it himself he’s not educated in counseling. You’re not allowed to have more then one relationship as a counselor then client and patient. Please do not let this stop you guys from going to therapy!
I would never spend another minute with a counsellor or therapist ever again. All the years I did go, benefitted nobody BUT the one on the payroll. And the dr I was seeing, inappropriately touched me, and said and did things at each and every appointment, to invoke a reaction, then point the finger at my reaction (I was a young adolescent at the time). So basically he enjoyed upsetting me. It made things so much worse. I find talking to a trusted friend is more beneficial, back then and today. From my experience it was the therapist that needed the psychological evaluation.. They do WHATEVER they want. Zero accountability. Zero conscience.
At the synagogue? Man, they’re probably happy that mosaic law isn’t being practiced these days.

Been involved in relationships and know how they work so now I’m a counselor. Sir you went through a divorce.
Nothing about the wife’s behavior and demeanor suggest that she’s being abused. She doesn’t appear physically or emotionally broken, afraid, or even attached to her husband. Abuse victims don’t leave let alone cheat because they are brainwashed and or completely dependent upon their abuser. She seems to be the abuser with how she lies, cheats and manipulates.
