I would actually go to that restaurant with that ad. I would rewatch the ad about 5 times (laughing the whole way through) and then actually go the restaurant. I wish more ads had a sense of humor. Well done Casey!
Seeing the full edit process like this was awesome. I have watched many of your videos as I am learning DaVinci Resolve, but this video wrapped it all into one nice package. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge like this. Keep up the great work.
Thanks good video, It's great to see how others work through a complete project. I would love to see a more advanced real world view of how you organize media before an edit, starting with 3 or 4 hours of raw footage.
Another video idea: best practices for logging footage in Resolve. I’m a diehard FCPX range-based logging fanboy, but I want to feel as comfortable and empowered in Resolve. When you’re faced with days of multi-camera footage and scenes and b-roll, how do you get organized for a professional, long-form session? Cheers
Excellent video Casey! I haven't touched my channel or Davinci in a while and now that I'm getting back into it, I'm spending more time editing videos vs making them! Thank you for the Cut Page refresher...it'll devinitely help!
A full un-cut workflow is SUPER helpful. Knowing tools and shortcuts is one thing, but seeing how they are used in order and how movement around the panels happens is invaluable. Should do more "uncut" vids like this.
Yeah I agree. Given that it's been 2 years, it would be great to see a new video doing it with any improvements in techniques you've picked up over the past 2 years!
Music Producer Tip: Cut your music at the 1 (the first Kick) This will blend musical transitions, so when coming out of the music section that did not have drums, cuting the ending in on the 1 would have allowed for quicker way to edit it and musically would feel right as music producers can add slight variance to music and it will be a bit jarring. Great video by the way I appreciate your breakdown sir!
Casey your keyboard shortcut mapping thing might be a game changer! I wish there was a way to do this for mouse commands as well. One pet peeve I have is how mouse wheel left/right and mouse wheel click are different from color tab to fusion tab when manipulating a power window, etc.
Excellent tutorial and crazy speed! Wondering if there's any chance of making a video like this but for interviews/doc features. I saw the one you made on documentary style but that one was more focused on ideas behind editing rather than workflow. As someone that just recently transitioned to resolve, I'd definitely appreciate a workflow vid where you need to keep audio in sync and everything else that comes with this category. I know it can't possibly be this fast, but hopefully it would provide valuable workflow tips to a lot of ppl :)
A lot of useful information, as always! As a DIY RUclips this workflow isn't 100% applicable to me but there are absolutely ways for me to be more efficient with - for example - the cut page and source tape functionality.
Wow, just some few keyboard shortcuts but so powerful 😍 I have cut videos for a long time in premiere and was almost giving up on resolve. but this took me to the next level for sure!!🔥 thank you so much for sharing it🙏💝
Very nice! So I have done sound post for, well counting theatre probably before you were born... And the best lesson I ever had in music editing was making a 15 minute version of Disco Inferno with NO lyrics on 1/4" tape running 3 3/4 ips. For folks who don't remember 1/4" tape that translates to a "beat" being like the thickness of a hair or so. You really learn what works and what doesn't. Snare would not be my #1 but beat certainly is and in this case that worked out. IF you match beat HUGE sins of continuity will go unnoticed. AND a related trick is that this rule works for things other than music!
Great tutorial. Thanks. Can I make a request for a new vid? Monitor and hardware choices for Resolve - color calibration. A monitor for clients. A high Rez dual monitor setup for working on. Best choices? Thanks
1:06 Low key, I would love to see an ad like this made for a real place. Quick question, what is the hotkey for the slip tool? Not the toggle slip/slide but I want to map a hotkey for the tool istelf.
Loved your keyboard shortcuts. They are really useful...... except they only seem to work for me on the Cut page (which I'm not that fond of) and not the edit page (which is my preferred option). Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. BigSur 11.0.1 Resolve free 16.0.0.060
Hi Casey. I cant do what you are doing that fast. My version of resolve requires me to select the clip in the timeline first before I can use those shortcuts. What setting is that you are using?
this was a great tip. Never knew such a thing existed. I was just cutting and ripple deleting. Brilliant. Thanks a lot. And for many other videos i might have forgotten to mention. The one thing I wish I knew how to do similarly fast would be to quickly would be to take a few of the clips i just brought in and before i join them to just slightly increase the contrast. I know there's a whole screen for that and areas of effect, but isn't there some fast way just for one clip. For bigger projects I add adjustment effects and such, but for quick fast edits like you showed here sometimes some clips are just not contrasty enough or are older footage that would benefit from a bit of contrast increase yet I'd like to still keep it as fast as you showed, e.g. ideally it would be as easy as it is to crop some edges, but if I go into that mode with the color wheels things i feel get slow and complicated and I also don't know how that would mesh with then joining all clips into a joint clip. Thanks a lot for all your videos, and especially for mentioning this great cut and delete feature I had no idea existed!
if you go into the color tab while your play-head is on the clip you want to adjust the contrast of, you can then slide (or input a value into) the contrast setting (found near the bottom left) to adjust the contrast of that shot
I legit thought the ad for Kevin's bar and grill was a youtube ad and I was looking for the skip button for the first couple of seconds until I recognized your voice! 😂
You rock! For talking head tutorial and vlog type of videos do you have recommend this workflow as well? I mean sync the audio + video if the first was record separate from footage then remove the silences and do the first edit on Cut page?
Greetings from Puerto Rico, Casey. I really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot. I'm new with Davinci 16 and I have a recurring problem when editing my videos. Specifically when I add Text and/or cross transitions to the timeline. The problem is that during playback, when the red marker reaches the text clip and cross transitions, the video stalls and jerks until it passes. Any suggestions as to how I can fix rhis? Thanks.
I wish you had done with the audio silence removal like you did with adding the B roll, calling out the keyboard shortcut as you went. Still, another great video.
It's a good way for simple edits, but when you do a complex one, like a documentary, short film,... with tons of footage, you need to organize your edit beforehand. For my part I either use multiple timelines (and drag the clips I want in my final timeline), Or I organize my bins with subclips (like this I can see everything in the media pool, it's more visual than just using multiple timelines, because you can see all the thumbnails and take what you need. But I never tried the CUT page, to be honest, it looks interesting when I see how you cut.
Casey you're so lovely. Bless your love for life, and bless your infectious generosity. Your karma is gonna, (if not already) broadside you so deservedly with success! You are my goto for Davinci coming from 15 years of Adobe.🙏🏻
the more I try to use the CUT page, the more I hate it. I only used it in v17 with my Speed Editor but I feel like everything I ever learned for my kind of workflow doesn't work at all. for example the "start to playhead" and "end to playhead" keys don't exist on the speed editor. instead you need to hold down TRIM IN and TRIM OUT while using the dial on JOG (because SCRL is to fast and JOG is to slow on 60fps) - but that is a pain. You if your playhead is too far into the clip (you don't see the start or end of the clip anymore). those keys don't work. so you have to scroll back and hold TRIM IN, scroll again and continue. hitting Q once is faster. The source tape takes I and O markers... but doesn't save them on the clips. You can skip a clip in the source tape if you know it's a bad take... you have to continue to scroll through it with the wheel and dare you to hit SCRL and just run past the beginning of the next clip. It's a pain. Perhaps in the next v17 beta they allows us to remap the SPEED Editor Keys. It is MX RED keys so I can use custom caps with my own labels.
i just deleted my davinci resolve 16 on my hp elite book, it's actually painful but the lags are really out of the world. i don't know what to do again, is there any other way or anu other software to use that's just like da vinci. i am just starting out
I tried this and Q and S and W ... and ... well. all of the keybinds are already assigned to something else. Do I have to go to each of the conflicts and rebind the old ones? I tried overriding but it doesn't work
I wish to God you did shotcut tutorials. everyone who does them is BORING. you style of teaching is amazing. sadly I don't have a computer that is good enough to handle davinci SO when that happens I will be watching your tutorials.
I watched this video WAY more times than I want to admit before I noticed he said that he was using a custom shortcut for "amend to end of the timeline". I have been bashing the crap out of my P button and wondering why everything just kept going full screen! Maybe now my videos will perhaps suck 1.3% less :-P - Really helpful tip once I got it! (by default it is Shift+F12)
I would actually go to that restaurant with that ad. I would rewatch the ad about 5 times (laughing the whole way through) and then actually go the restaurant. I wish more ads had a sense of humor. Well done Casey!

You spend most of your time filling things with other things and we spend it learning from your channel.
Excellent video Casey! I haven't touched my channel or Davinci in a while and now that I'm getting back into it, I'm spending more time editing videos vs making them! Thank you for the Cut Page refresher...it'll devinitely help!
One of your best so far. Practical, quick, new ideas on the fly. Will adjust my keyboard layout today. Thanks.
One of the most useful video about Resolve I've seen! Thanks!
bro your videos are so helpful, I'm 15 years old and I watched all your videos. This helped me a lot. Thanks :)
Mate, that was spectacularly helpful, brilliant video!!
Mic drop...solid vid Casey. You have achieved Zen-like status worthy of the Yoda moniker.
A full un-cut workflow is SUPER helpful. Knowing tools and shortcuts is one thing, but seeing how they are used in order and how movement around the panels happens is invaluable. Should do more "uncut" vids like this.

Absolutely BRILLIANT. Helped me so much. Thanks.
What?!!!! Can one do it this fast? Wow!
Thanks for doing these tutorials, they're making our lives so much easier.

Omg dude. You just turned what normally takes me hours into like literal minutes!
Superb!
Ripple to Start/End are the most useful shortcuts.
I have those set to Ctrl+JL to match JL for playback and Shift+JL for fast playback.
You make it look sooooo easy. Thanks.
Casey your keyboard shortcut mapping thing might be a game changer! I wish there was a way to do this for mouse commands as well. One pet peeve I have is how mouse wheel left/right and mouse wheel click are different from color tab to fusion tab when manipulating a power window, etc.
music ending trick is very useful. Thanks for making this video
I just subscribed to your channel, love it. you talk fast, are to the point and fun to listen to.
The copy on the kevin's bar ad is amazing.
This guy's a genious! Thank you so much, the tutorial is amazing!!

An audio limiter on the voiceover in the Fairlight page would help too. "And sometimes we just pour it everywhere" was a bit too loud imho
I really enjoy your content! I've been binging your videos to pick up more tips and tricks!! Thanks again for what you do! Keep it up!!!
Big help thanks! The built in shortcuts are a bit clumsy!
Wow, just some few keyboard shortcuts but so powerful 😍 I have cut videos for a long time in premiere and was almost giving up on resolve. but this took me to the next level for sure!!🔥 thank you so much for sharing it🙏💝
Nice. It would be nice to see some more advanced tutorials like this.👍

thanks for the tips! much needed!
This is actually, like actually useful. Thanks!
As always awesome video!
This is perfect for me...just starting to get efficient...this helps! Thanks!
Very nice video, amazing channel, thanks bro, is incredible what you offer

Great stuff - Those shortcuts make a lot of sense
I just edited a project using the Q and W shortcuts. This really sped up my workflow - Thanks
I use your shortcut for end and start to played, but it doesn't work. Any suggestions?
Loved your keyboard shortcuts. They are really useful...... except they only seem to work for me on the Cut page (which I'm not that fond of) and not the edit page (which is my preferred option).

Only 24 hours late! Could have used this info today. Great stuff Casey! Thanks.
well that was shocking!... shockingly good... my goodness good pace, good content, i feel full now, thank you
Brilliant tutorial, just what I needed. Thanks.
Amazing workflow, casey!!!!
In out p. That's kewl.
Hi Casey. I cant do what you are doing that fast. My version of resolve requires me to select the clip in the timeline first before I can use those shortcuts. What setting is that you are using?
Humor and wisdom to start our morning!

once you get used to it, it will only take like 30s
@@jayco10125 thanks a lot
It was great Casey, excellent

Another thumb up for another great great video from the best! 👍🏼
My bruh u da best!
Is there a resource explaining how to import the keyboard layout in the link? I'll see if I can figure it our within Resolve. thanks, great videos.
never mind, wow, it was as easy as "import layout". thanks! I love replying to my own comments.
Any different shortcuts you'd use for large montage style videos with hundreds of different clips to mesh?
So useful ! Thanks

Whoa that was fast! I need hours only to cut off the gaps or wrong words

This tutorial made me thirsty! 🤩
i also use a Razer Tartarus 2 that i have programmed multiple macros and it really helps.
perfect thank you!
Thanks
It is so gooooooooodddddd! 💯💯💯💯
How come my editor doesn't show the audio waveform? Is there a way to enable it to do so?
Nice! I edit my videos kinda the same way. I also have some shortcuts that I've adapted from Premiere that I got from FreddieW!
Trying to figure out how to set these when that key is already set to something else. ie. q is set to view source timeline viewer... ?
That was great to watch, thank you :-D
Casey you're so lovely. Bless your love for life, and bless your infectious generosity. Your karma is gonna, (if not already) broadside you so deservedly with success! You are my goto for Davinci coming from 15 years of Adobe.🙏🏻
Great video
It's great 😁
Nice video 🔥
Is there anything you'd change about this video after Resolve 17?
the more I try to use the CUT page, the more I hate it.
It's a pain. Perhaps in the next v17 beta they allows us to remap the SPEED Editor Keys. It is MX RED keys so I can use custom caps with my own labels.
Lol, I love the new intros :D
That was cool :D
This video has convinced me I'm an idiot, thank you, I needed that. Remapped my keys and I'm already flying through edits like I'm the Flash.
Wow! That’s what I’m talkin bout!
"Kevin's Bar and... umm... Bar?" No footage of any Grill there :-P
howd you do that in 3:43 you click razor then the clip automatically stop why when i do razor it still playing??
i just deleted my davinci resolve 16 on my hp elite book, it's actually painful but the lags are really out of the world. i don't know what to do again, is there any other way or anu other software to use that's just like da vinci. i am just starting out
LMAO "that's a good music edit, probably no one will notice. that's good for government work." i love you, man.
Dopest video
Casey Faris - if Deadpool was a Davinci Resolve guru.
Nice
It's good !! :D
I tried this and Q and S and W ... and ... well. all of the keybinds are already assigned to something else. Do I have to go to each of the conflicts and rebind the old ones? I tried overriding but it doesn't work
Yeah you have to rebind it but it doesnt take very long just choose something you would never use
I wish to God you did shotcut tutorials. everyone who does them is BORING. you style of teaching is amazing. sadly I don't have a computer that is good enough to handle davinci SO when that happens I will be watching your tutorials.
your sweet n funneeeyyyyy! heads up!
I beg to differ on "Tasty" hahahahahaha
During the edit process I noticed the childish giggle when you were about to say "We put things" XD
Meanwhile I lift the thing up and put it back down until Kevin brings a new one... Cheers! 🍻🍻🍻
Bro thas was Flash Thanks a lot
I watched this video WAY more times than I want to admit before I noticed he said that he was using a custom shortcut for "amend to end of the timeline". .... wait... or was it Alt+F12?......
I love the satire VO
cant wait to hit up Kevin's spot after this pandemic.
This is misleading af are you pressing control shift left bracket and Q at the same time? Or just Q??
most people got sotNice tutorialng from tNice tutorials video. Much love!
