Your comment at the 4:40 mark is spot on! The sounds of these guitars are different but none is better than the other. The differentiation comes in personal sound preference (bass vs. sparkle vs. loudness) and the playability of the guitar which varies for individuals by hand size, finger length, etc. That is why its important to try these guitars with your own hands at a shop. Helps to have the extra $$ if you like the Taylors though :)
When you tested did you set all guitars to the save volume and tone levels, did you use the same set of strings on each? Did you compare open mic recording as well to compare natural sound not just internal pickups?
I liked Yamaha the best. If you want a mellow and a fat buttery tone Yamaha is the way to go. Taylor 310 sounded good too but a little brighter than the Yamaha.
Im left handed so limited for guitars especially for the country i now live in. Options are sonoran fender, apx 700ii or a taylor 214 ce dlx however its like £600 difference. Im just thinking is it really worth paying that extra for a Taylor will i be completely blown away with difference? Cant try instore only available only online. Any opinions
Thank you very much for this review, helps me a lot not only to decide what guitar to buy but also to search a bit more about electronic/recording/audio softwares. Please, can you tell what are the equipments you are using use and also the program?. Thank you very much in advance.
I have the APX 70011 ordered and could you tell me as i am only an ameteur player if it would be worth trying to get the extra money for the APX 1000 instead but money is tight so i would like an expert opinion and you have tried the 70011 in this video and am sure you have tried the 1000 also. Please let me know as i would have to cancel my order but from what i have seen i don't really need that upgrade between the 2 all i want is a good guitar.
Thanks for the demo! The 310 sounded amazing in my headphones, but here in New Zealand they're priced at $3,299.00 which is way out of my price range. Would definitely consider buying either the Yamaha ($1,299.00) or 114ce ($1,599.00) after first having a play on each, of course. All three are beauties with different qualities.
The yamaha can imitate the sound of taylor by their electronic system...while taylor cant imitate the acoustic sound of yamaha when connected or plug in...
I have both taylor and yamaha. I have Taylor 214 CE and a Yamaha thinline apx500ii. My amp is a behringer acx450 and i use it in stage and in church. Yamaha is more for fast, pop rock that can be used with effects with no problem. Taylor however is for more slow worship that needs clear sound of an acoustic guitar. I had a hard time first to eq this guitar compared to my friends taylor 314CE.
The 310 definitely sounds best to me. I have an older Yamaha fg331 that sounds clearer than the one is this demo but of course there is no pickup in that older model. I would love to hear these 3 head to head unplugged but that's not the purpose of this demo o realize and BTW great demo!
Hi wt u recommend? I am spending $1000. I have option of Taylor 114e and Yamaha AC3M. But I like Piezo pickup sound which is not in taylor and taylor 114ce have Expression System 2 pickup not Piezo . BTW well played..
I have a 310 and I preferr it over any guitar the tone and action even the harmonics on top of frets have a better sound. I sold 4 of my guitars to buy it and i never looked back
0:44 you say you've not played all 3 before...but the 3 waveforms you show at the end of the video....after you played all 3...are seen in the video at the beginning where you say you haven't. Good job your not up for this in court cos you'd be going down mr! lol Anyway...review was very nice and I rather liked the yamaha...sounded great for its price, course the Taylor 310CE was clearly the best...but what is that? 3 or 4 times the price? Good demo!!
@@benallmark9671 . It is awesome . I am giving it to my son as soon as i can get it to Ontario to him but the Covid has made it too hard. I bought a martin 000-15m and have played nothing else since because it fits my body size perfect and i love it. Also my Grandson is learning and i want him to have that APX1000 in his hands too :)
That 114Ce sounds thin and too bright...not even considerable IMO...the APX sounds great for a variety of styles and could prob be EQ'd to sound even better :)
i own a Yamaha cpx 700II.. and a Taylor 114ce.. and imo the Yamaha is hands down a more warm and full natural sound .. the Taylor is bright ... next i'm selling the Taylor and buying a Yamaha CPX 1000 .. for the money and the sound :-)
I realy hate that hollow electric sound of the Taylor ES system! My 314CE (2005) has the 2010 version upgrade done (from AA to 9V) but it still has that horrible hollow sound to it, especialy when played in the middle neck position. I found to be realy difficult if not impossible to get a decent sound from it in different situations. I'm going to have it downgraded to ES-T (under the saddle piezo) for more flexibility and stable electrical tone. This comparison is actualy realy good as it''s definitaly showing the electrical differences. I'll take the ES-T from the 114CE any day over the ES from the 310CE! Sadly, it took me way to long to come to this conclusion as the 314CE itself is a realy great sounding and playing guitar!
George yeah your right....yamaha is really acoustic, i mean u can hear well the bass string while taylor is like a mixed acoustic ang lead,,,more higher but it cant emphasize the bass part of the string....
The older Taylor's are better sounding. The X brace has a warmer low end precence. The Fishman prefix system had full Eq, phase shifter and a blend control for how much piezo vs mic sound u wanted. I can get the sound of 3 guitars on the older models due to the ability to control all of this. Now u get the v brace which is treble high. And a volume, treble and bass control and thats it. Besides the Switch inside ...almost forgot that. They are just not as nice sounding as they were. Taylor's shooting their own foot with the new system. They made it one dimensional. You used to be able to get several sounds. Now just one. Thankfully there are still tons of the older ones around
310 seems better clarity, richness in sound, lively and natural. i thot apx muddy, fat, artificial. electronic. i usually dont like taylor but the apx sound isnt my cuppa tea. forget the 114, should include a martin, seagull.
kal Desjarlais yamaha can immitate the sound of taylor with their electronic system while taylor has fixed tune,,,its so more on high.....yamaha is so acoustic.....
Great job! I choose the Apx 700 II
I am from Brazil and here the taylor is much more expensive than there... really thanks
A ten year old video that is still fantastic ! Thanks
RUclips needs more reviews like this. very helpful

Hi, it's one of my own! Thanks for watching
Yamaha sounded more natural, 114ce sounded horribly thin and bright, 310ce was okay but a little on the bright sound.
He didnt have the 114 tone controls right, mine sounds lovely when you roll back the treble
Yea I REALLY don't think that was the guitar's fault. You could tell there was something going on with EQ there.
i have to do with the 310ce, but, the grand sy,phon ny is too different? i was planing to buy a taylor but i was not sure between 410ce 416ce 414ce
if you dont mind me asking, what song were you playing?
When you tested did you set all guitars to the save volume and tone levels, did you use the same set of strings on each? Did you compare open mic recording as well to compare natural sound not just internal pickups?
Got ourselves an expert here. Using that same strings on all of them? Who the f would do that?
What kind of strings do you have on your Yamaha?

Great review that helped alot
what chords/ song are you playing? its lovely
The yamaha can imitate the sound of taylor by their electronic system...while taylor cant imitate the acoustic sound of yamaha when connected or plug in...
each having their own sounds, choose based on the sound that you want, all great for me

taylor not easy to equalise...for that i think the seagull and martin are more natrual.

Are u using protools?

Buy A3R bro.....its good also....just chnage the string to extra light.... surely you will enjoy it......even the bass string
Ha ha, you got me! I didn't like my first 'talking' take...so I rerecorded it after doing the guitar stuff.
Thanks for commenting!
I have a 310 and I preferr it over any guitar the tone and action even the harmonics on top of frets have a better sound. I sold 4 of my guitars to buy it and i never looked back
No regrets eh ?
Well video. Thank you so much. I choose APX 700 II.
Yamaha APX700 NT, obviusly.

Hi I'd like to say thanks for doing these sort of tests. It helps us armchair buyers make a better decision. Cheers.
Taylor 310CE sounds Awesome but it's 5x more expensive than Yamaha APX700II.
I'LL TAKE THE YAMAHA
@@georgemercer3013 and you won’t be disappointed
Thank you.
Taylor 310ce sounds pretty good.!
Yamaha APX700ii is superb..
I have one ordered. Can't wait to get it
@@cyberstace58how is it ?

i don't know i like the yamaha, the taylor is definitely brighter but thinner at the same time
I agree that 70011 sounds awesome for the price compared to the price of those Taylors.
Yamaha APX700II sound is is better than Taylor in my opinion.
Apx is more balanced than taylor (Him it's too sharp). Both are good choices
i like Taylor 114ce best...
114ce !
I'm about to buy the Yamaha APX 500 II but this Yamaha APX 700 II is not bad at all..
+Sekar Lintang did you buy the Yamaha?
you should go with a 700 or a 900... or find a 4a, 5a, or some of the older ones. the preamps are not that good now in days on the 500ii and 500iii
Hey there, I ogt the yamaha apx 500. Hum, I'ts laminated wood guitar. I want the apx 700, which is solid, obviously, sounds louder.

hola
podrías decirme cuanto cuesta la Taylor 310ce
Yeah, I agree, really eish there were more great videos like this here. Even all these years later, not really an abundance.
The Yamaha is not piezo but transducer
No, Ableton Live 8 :-)
I prefer 114ce
Just like any Taylor I've played. Thinand tinny sounding. The Yamaha had a fuller, warmer sound.
George yeah your right....yamaha is really acoustic, i mean u can hear well the bass string while taylor is like a mixed acoustic ang lead,,,more higher but it cant emphasize the bass part of the string....
You obviously haven't played a big baby taylor then.
Certainly not thin and tinny sounding !
Taylor Very Good Sound

Wow taylor!
Yamaha 700ii has ART pickups not piezo. The 500 has piezo pickups.
310 sounds best to me
114ce batendo em muitos da propria taylor FATO
310 seems better clarity, richness in sound, lively and natural. i thot apx muddy, fat, artificial. electronic. i usually dont like taylor but the apx sound isnt my cuppa tea. forget the 114, should include a martin, seagull.
Compare the prices...buy the Yamaha....
114 sounds too shallow
I do not like the sound either.
Yamaha sounds too electric and so does 114
yamaha is too quiet and boring--- taylors come alive
kal Desjarlais yamaha can immitate the sound of taylor with their electronic system while taylor has fixed tune,,,its so more on high.....yamaha is so acoustic.....
this yamaha is nothing compared to the vintage APXs like the 10s, 20s, or 4-8
Hi, it's one of my own! Thanks for watching
