  • This is a movie reaction to my first time watching Spider-Man: No Way Home, released in 2021 and directed by Jon Watts. What a fantastic movie filled with nostalgia for those of us who grew up with the Tobey Magquire Spider-Man movies that had Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, and Thomas Haden Church. But then also nostalgia and hype for those who grew up with the Andrew Garfield movies, with Jamie Foxx and Rhys Ifans! I knew going into this that all three Spider-Man actors were in it, but had NO idea about how many villains we would see in this too. It was a wild time with emotion and drama and stakes and I loved it. Make sure to stick around to the end of this video for my full thoughts and review and thank you so much for watching!

I am glad that despite knowing the biggest thing about this movie before watching it, I still had a HUGE surprise for this first time watching experience because I had no clue about any of the villains being in this. And THAT is why I don't watch movie trailers! 😉 (I have watched the No Way Home trailers and appreciate how they drummed up hype for this movie.) Thank you so much for watching with me, I really appreciate it and I hope you enjoyed it!
I just finished my Breaking Bad / Better Call Saul journey on Patreon and that will be coming to RUclips eventually... starting later this year. 🥳 Daredevil is part of my Marvel TV journey happening on Patreon too and perhaps one day I will edit the Daredevil reactions for RUclips. I always get asked what I've reacted to, please feel free to look at my website for complete lists of YT and Patreon reactions combined: kaiielle.com
And please make sure to get your suggestions in for reactions here: forms.gle/XZVvZhfhwFzsDpRU9 ❤

It’s totally unforgivable that after all this time you STILL don’t know how to pronounce Kevin FEIGE’s last name!! It’s two syllables…FY-GEE…(with a hard “g”) lol. I know you seemingly do not watch trailers…but, there are no longer gonna be any excuses considering that the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer (which exploded online last month) features his name being prominently spoken at the end by Deadpool. You no longer have an excuse! 😂

    • @kaiielle
      @kaiielle  24 дня назад +4

@@equusfemina1 Why is it unforgivable? If someone pronounces a word or a name wrong, it means they've only ever read the word/name and have never heard it being said. This is the first time that I've said his name out loud in a reaction video, so this is the first time that I have been corrected (I've received a few comments on this video that were made prior to yours). Now that I know it's fy-gee, that is what I will say. And yeah, I do not watch movie trailers for movies that I know I will be reacting to for the channel. I know the D&W trailer was a big deal, but I did not watch it.

I'm still amazed how well they kept the secret, I mean it was kinda known for a while, but unlike so many movies there was no majour spoilers, I think most was the mat murdock picture and a shot of them together in the school, but over all they managed to keep any huge spoilers.

I love how Doc Ock immediately wants to help as soon as his new chip works. It reminds you how he and so many of Spider-Man's villains were genuinely good, well-meaning people before the incidents that transformed them.
Also, Willem Dafoe was 66 and doing most of his own stunt work in the fight scenes. He literally insisted upon doing as much of it as possible when he agreed to come back as Osborn.
Tobey's Peter having organic web shooters is almost entirely exclusive to his Spider-Man. In almost every other version in every other medium, Spider-Man's webs are mechanical. It was a change they made for the first Tobey Maguire movie because they felt that it would be too tough to explain how this high school kid could build things like mechanical web shooters. So they opted to make his web shooters one of his superpowers as a matter of narrative convenience.

it's always surprised me when creatives decide people won't buy something. They did later with spiderman, they didn't think magic would work in the movies originally, but it does. They thought classic x-men outfits were dumb until deadpool proved maybe it's a good idea to have iconic recognizable outfits. I don't think there really is a "this won't work in the movie:" it's just people too lazy or lacking vision to make it work. I also find it weird when someone says "it's not realistic so it wouldn't work" in a movie where a guy gets bitten by a spider and develops spider based powers and swings around new york fighting other powered people.

They did everything I was afraid they would do (and more, I didn’t know about Tobey and Andrew) but it all just WORKED! Every reveal, every character development made me happier than almost any other movie I had seen in years. (Even the sad stuff, because it was done so well.) I laughed, I cheered, I cried. About a dozen major characters, half of them from franchises long retired, and this movie did justice to EVERY SINGLE ONE!

Thanks so much for enjoying this movie, Kaiielle! Due to living in Japan, I had to see this in theaters several weeks after its release in North America. Thankfully, nothing was spoiled for me beforehand (apart from what I saw in trailers) and it was a great experience. Between the reserved nature of Japanese audiences, and the fact I couldn't go on opening weekend, there weren't any huge reactions among my fellow viewers. However, my own love for the Spider-Man franchise was more than enough for me, and I deeply appreciated this love letter to all the fans.
One memo: During the first fight against Electro, Spidey isn't wearing a new costume. Because he couldn't wash out the stain after having paint thrown on him, he just decided to turn that costume inside-out. After May was able to get the stains out, he switched it back to normal.

When Aunt May died that hit everyone hard and you heard a lot of "oh come on". Of course a lot of cheers for Willem Defoe and all the villians coming back. More people were sad at Doctor Strange having to make everyone forget Peter. Especially after he said, "Everyone who knows and loves you we'd...we'd have no memory of you". He was letting him know he didn't want lose him. Plus, he had to make another very hard choice to do it just after making the choice to let things play out in Endgame, knowing what would happen to Tony. I will say that this was probably the best since Endgame at that time but not as good as Endgame. That's hard to top. Great reaction!

It's not going to happen because of the Tom Holland/Zendaya of it all, but they left it at a perfect place to basically enter college sort of fresh and you can bring in characters like Harry Osborn or Gwen Stacy or Felicia Hardy.
Also fun fact: Charlie and Andrew were roommates once upon a time and are still friends. They spoke during the making of this film, but didn't say anything to one another because of the secrecy of it all. So imagine their surprise when they watch the final cut and see that their buddy was in it and they sorta lied to each other. Also, they lived with Robert Pattinson, which means at one point in time Spider-Man, Daredevil and Batman shared a place together.

In the comics, Spider-Man’s biggest enemies form the team the Sinister Six. In the film Strange had six cells prepared (with the tree Peter shot taking up one of them). So there’s this meta joke that Spidey fans spend the whole movie waiting for the sixth member to arrive.
It turns out there IS a sixth member of the Sinister Six, he just spent the entire movie getting drunk in Mexico 😂

To answer your question, the theater experience for this was, unfortunately, indescribable. I went into it having not seen any pre-MCU Spiderman movies but thankfully loaded with enough pop culture knowledge to know what was going on (enough that I still cried at Peter 3 catching MJ) and it was still incredible. Probably the best MCU experience i've had besides Infinity War/Endgame. Absolutely epic!

To what you were saying about the others being the highlight above "our" Spidey, and his universe. I think Tom Holland deserves a lot of credit for that. As the star, in his third solo movie, he could have made a stink about it. Or insisted on minimising Andrew and Toby's impact. But he didn't. The Spider-Man experience for the fans was more important. So, hats off to him for that.

I loved this movie so much, it was so well done. I just can’t stand the implication that everything that happened was Peter’s idea. When he went to talk to Strange and got shot down, he accepted it and was going to leave, then Strange suggested they do the other thing instead. Yes, Peter should not have kept interrupting, but that absolutely was not his idea as Strange kept trying to put the blame on him

That MJ did know Peter was Spiderman, so she should have been there. And in a sense, so should Andrews Gwen and her father - just because they died doesn't mean they shouldn't be there. Andrew's Spiderman is underrated and doesn't get nearly the credit he deserves. Except for that one guy in your comments, I haven't talked to anyone who didn't have high praise for this film. It's debut average score was 8.2 which is higher than all the other spiderman movies and it has a 98% audience rating on rotten tomatoes. They introduced so many characters and managed to balance them perfectly and give them their due, while giving us a comic book worthy story and some incredible and poignant dialogue. After Spidey 3 caught MJ and they had their moment, the whole cinema cheered. When Andrew appeared everyone was like "I fucking knew it!" even though no one actually did at that point. When Toby appeared some people were actually crying and cheering. It was an energetic experience for sure. It's not perfect because nothing can be but to say this movie isn't outstanding makes me wonder what those people expected and how they'd do it better. Even as a writer, I think there are only small things that could be improved.
Also Willem Dafoe is probably the best villain in any comic book related movie. He would also have made an amazing Joker in the right scenario or Hannibal Lecter. If you haven't seen Boondock Saints, you should check it out :)

I vaguely recall that when the Andrew Garfield movies were coming out people got pissed that they were redoing the origin story, but then when Marvel brought out the Tom Holland Spiderman people were pissed they didn't give him the OG origin story, THEN when this came out people were pissed AGAIN because it's essentially another origin story.... basically no matter what filmmakers do someone is going to be upset about how they're doing it.
Does this movie run on nostalgia? Yes. Do I care? Not at all, it's a fun movie and knows what it is.

  • @HammerdWalrus

When I saw that this movie was coming out, It was the one that made me want to go back and watch all of the MCU, I originally watched Iron Man 1 and 2 when they released, and I didn't know that the MCU was a thing at that point since I was 8 and 10 when they came out. By the time I got caught up with the MCU for this movie, it was available on D+ and I purposefully started a few months a head of it's release.
Also a couple fun facts about this movie: Willem Dafoe did his own physical stunts saying that it meant a lot to him to do them, he was 66 at the time. Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man is the only one with Organic Webs, it was a production choice since it would be cheaper than prop Web Shooters. You can actually see the Spider-Sense/Tingle when Dr. Strange knocks him out of his physical form, there's little waves over his head that resemble the comics Spider-Sense.

    Poignant.
The theater experience was awesome. I told my son it is the quintessential SpiderMan movie. He agreed. (In fairness, though, Spider Man has always been my favorite comic book character, ever since I was a kid.)
Now, in fairness, because of its place in the MCU, this movie was what it was. But, it was also an excellent reset. Now, if they make another Spider Man movie, it can be totally different. Will it be? I don't know. I do think they kind of ran out of ideas. They may need another 20 years before they're able to have something new to say. But, for my part, I really enjoyed it. (Even the fan servicy stuff. I'm a fan, and I don't mind if they cater to me. Nope. Not one bit.)
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for bringing us along on your journey. Even though I've been there and done that, the whole point of the reactionverse is for those of us who have been there, and done that to be able to vicariously be there and do it again for the first time with you. It's a strange nostalgia, left over from a few years ago where we were all struggling to find connection with humanity again, after having been somewhat violently separated from everyone and everything. So... I appreciate yours (and the other reactors') willingness to let us participate.
    Thank you, Kaiielle.
And, now... I hope you have a wonderful rest of the spring. And, enjoy the summer up there! I'll look forward to whatever you watch next.

For me and a lot of people I can assume, who were on the internet a lot leading up to the movies release, even if you weren't looking for news about the movie, the other Spider Man's being in No Way Home was kinda the worst kept secret in superhero movie history. That shot (36:07) of Andrew was leaked many months prior to release, though he tried his hardest to convince everyone that the image was fake, and pretty much deny that he was in the movie in every interview he had or talk show he was on. Toby and Andrew being in the movie was pretty much theorized to death, especially once we knew Alfred Molina's Doc Ock was in the movie after the first trailer. And there was an incredibly dumb leak a month or so before the release that revealed both Toby and Andrew, as well as Charlie Cox. Didn't hinder how awesome seeing all 3 together in the movie was, though.

The funniest part about the scene with Ned asking Tobey about his best friend is that in the comics, Ned does in fact become a super villain, the second Hobgoblin, and tries to kill Peter multiple times until dying, and while he didn't die on Peter's arms, he was the one who found Ned's body.

@@Klaital1 He's actually Ganke in terms of personality, appearance, and relationship with a superhero best friend - Ganke is Miles Morales' best friend (the Spider-Man from the animated Spider-Verse movies), I heard they reduced his role and also likely slimmed him down in the Spider-Verse movies to avoid similarity with Ned in the MCU Spider-Man series. Ganke knows Miles is Spider-Man and they converse about his secret life regularly. In 2001, a new universe of Marvel called The Ultimate universe had comics to help inundate readers who may want to have easy access to Marvel due to the first Spider-Man film coming out. Eventually in that comic series, Peter dies and Miles takes his place.
I don't recall Ned ever being Peter's friend in the comics, only a colleague.
Ganke is called Ned to give Peter a best friend who turns into a Goblin villain (like how Michelle Jones gives him an "MJ"), even though a decade later in the comics, it's retroactively revealed that The Hobgoblin's real identity is that of billionaire fashion designer, Roderick Kingsley and Ned was brainwashed and framed to appear as The Hobgoblin. Roderick sounds like a name belonging to a rich guy, so Ned couldn't have that instead.
By the way, Ned and then Roderick are the first Hobgoblin of a few, but the others are ultimately so insignificant, they're never brought up in conversation unless an in-depth analysis occurs.
