  • Today long time host Doug McIntyre, announced on his show this morning, he will be leaving KABC on December 14th after 22-years. “There comes a time when you need to get off the stage”, said McIntyre. “It has been a great honor and privilege to have this platform for all these years, but the time is right to pass the baton.” McIntyre in the Morning is heard weekdays from 5-10 am.
McIntyre made a point to thank KABC management for accepting his decision and expressed his gratitude to his news anchor, Leeann Tweeden, sports reporter, Randy Wang, and traffic reporter, Bill Thomas, “All great professionals and first-class people, even Wang”, said McIntyre.
In addition to hosting McIntyre in the Morning, Doug created Red Eye Radio which dominated the overnight ratings, featuring an eclectic mix of current events, history, and music, with weekly live in-studio performances by famous and not so famous jazz artists and vocalists. Red Eye Radio continues as a nationally syndicated show on over 200 stations. In addition to his work for KABC, McIntyre did double duty, hosting two different shows for WABC in New York City, a total of 6-hours of broadcasting a day.
“After thousands and thousands of hours of gasbagging, it’s time to shut up for a while, restock the story bunker, and tackle some long-delayed writing projects”, said McIntyre.
McIntyre in the Morning covered world, national and local events, with a special focus on homelessness, gridlock (both traffic and political), education, immigration, climate change, technology, history and the arts. He hosted a live Mayoral debate in 2005 featuring then L.A. Mayor James Hahn and future Mayor Antonio Villiaraigosa, the September 11th attacks, the great Japanese tsunami and made national news in 2017 with the Al Franken #MeToo story resulting in the resignation of Senator Franken. The program has earned 9 prestigious Golden Mike Awards from the Southern California Broadcaster’s Association.
McIntyre has been selected one of the Top 50 radio hosts in America by the industry magazine, Talkers and was regularly voted a Top 10 host by LARadio.com.
When asked what he will miss most McIntyre did not hesitate to answer. “The listeners! Some of them have been with me from my very first broadcast.” And what won’t he miss? “The ugly, angry, contextless trolling that passes for political discourse today.”
McIntyre will continue to write his popular Sunday column for the Southern California News Group which appears in the L.A. Daily News, Orange County Register, Long Beach Press Telegram, San Bernardino Sun among others.
McIntyre is married to writer/actress/producer, Penny Peyser, with whom he co-wrote/produced/ and directed the feature documentary, Trying to Get Good: the Jazz Odyssey of Jack Sheldon and was Executive Producer on Ms. Peyser’s film, Stillpoint.

There is a reason why this guy tunes in from New Hampshire every morning: you were very informative, entertaining and funny everyday. Thanks for the memories. I wish we had someone like you in New England.

Fly high Mr. McIntyre. As a pilot I relate to your reference to the Wright Bros. My morning commute will not be the same without you. Thank you for sharing with us your search for transparency and truth in today's crazy world.

If I remember correctly, he began his "solid" long-term stint on KABC with stand-in coverage of the Bush-Gore runoff in November 2000. He was so good and so fair (i.e., not a liberal hack) that the ratings carried him into Red-Eye Radio and then into the morning drive show. I called Doug exactly ONCE in all that time -- to ask him whenever did he sleep. His response, basically, that he never did.
Well, Doug, maybe now you can catch up on your Z's. We will miss you!

I began listening to him the same time! Then all thru (mostly) Red Eye radio and therefore falling asleep during the day. Ugh! Seriously, those were the good ole days! Miss him still, especially during these scary, crazy times. Going thru personal issues also, and nobody to listen to in the am to start another long day. God bless you and your family, Doug!! 😊

Doug sure does not look like 61. I have listened to him forever, even if I stopped tuning into the morning show a couple of years ago. I listened to him on KABC in the 90s before he moved to Canada. Then I got hooked on the overnights, because what I don't agree with politically was less important than what I admired about his Red Eye show with his incredible knowledge of history and music. He also was part of those who discussed the problem with illegal immigration early on.
Doug is witty and entertaining when he stays away from the #TDS agenda. I wish him nothing but good health, a happy life and creative success... whatever is left.

Wow! Great to see and hear these moments. He's such a master of words and eloquent. Nice guy that you'd want to spend time with if possible. Priceless musical education and so bright. Funny too. Thx Doug for all that you do. Just caught this on RUclips. The nights on Red Eye Radio KABC - classic.

The BEST talk morning host, not only in Los Angeles metro, but really, since the format began in the 1990s. Doug, will miss you tremendously. 😣 I gave up coffee for your show - so, this will cost me fresh grounds and teeth whitening treatments - I'll be looking for reimbursement from your future box office proceeds...🤓🎶🎥💛

I look forward to seeing what is next for you Doug.
You are the only radio host I have ever called, and twice, on Red-Eye Radio. The subjects were interesting to me, and perhaps interesting to you, but in retrospect it was spectacularly poor radio. Thanks for the patience.
You have a remarkable talent to entertain and inform and to keep the conversation from devolving into the useless diatribe. Cheers from this radical moderate.
Thank you, good luck, and best wishes.

    DOUGH McINTYRE;
I Have learned ALOT listening to your show and IF you LOVE AMERICA and want to do something that is BIGGER than your SELFISH "Oh I got other things to do" BULLSHIT, you will STAY to do RADIO and continue TEACHING THE AMERICAN WAYS and ARTS to the NEXT GENERATION(s).
I Understand you are tired of waking up SOOO Early in the AM! Don't blame you.
HOW ABOUT TAKE THE JOHN and JILLIAN Afternoon SHOW and bring them to the AM SHOW? (John is Great also). YOU HAVE BEEN BLESSED with the GIFT of TEACHING, QUICK WIT and in your case some beautiful things that you teach, AMERICANA, History and The ARTS + your opinion on Current events!.
DO SOMETHING THAT IS BIGGER THAN YOU McIntyre, CONTINUE TEACHING using this Medium and BE REMEMBERED WHEN YOU DIE, or you will just FADE AWAY WITH A NICE SAVINGS ACCOUNT forgotten as the "Oh Yeah that guy, wasn't he on some news or something many years ago?".
My 3 Children (in their 30s) were starting to listen to your Show and they loved it.
