How is homelessness JUST about drugs and mental health? What about the cost of living not just in LA but throughout the county. It’s so expensive in most cities now that $15 an hour doesn’t even cut it. There are no decent jobs here in Cleveland unless you want to work at The Cleveland Clinic or University Hospitals. The rest of the jobs are retail, service oriented jobs that pay $10 an hour. The cost of living here is CHEAPER than other parts of the country but to live comfortably you need to make $50k to get by as a single person....UNLESS you live in the less affluent neighborhoods....aka the ghetto. Forget about it if you’re married with kids. Homelessness is a growing epidemic throughout our country. It goes hand in hand with the epidemic of jobs being off-shored or sent to Mexico. The economy is awful and all the talking heads say everything is fine. Nothing to see here. Keep moving.

housing would be more plentiful & cheaper if we stopped the invasion of illegal aliens

This from a guy who gave radio advice on vagina worms and exploited addicts on his reality tv show. Build a building and rent it out. Yes, mental health and drug abuse need to be addressed but, it's part of the rigamaroll. THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH PLACES TO LIVE. The housing crisis is very real.

So homelessness is not a housing crisis? So where are all these housing units? Whenever I look on Craigslist, local papers for "housing" there ain't much there. What is there is vastly over what the average person can afford, much less the average homeless person. Until there EXISTS "Housing" then Dr. Drew is talking out of his arse to say that homelessness in LA is not a housing problem. Too many lines while talking to teens about their sex lives at KROQ maybe.
