What happened to Tim Drake broke my heart more. His character will never ever be the same. 30 years worth of character history retconned and destroyed to promote “the message”.

Bisexual men have to deal with stereotypes about not being masculine, overly sensitive etc.
So having Jon Kent be the sensitive, pacifist hero, feeds into those stereotypes.
Midnighter (who's gay) isn't depicted as passive, or dare I say, even submissive.
No, he defies stereotypes and dismantles his opponents with ruthless efficiency (it's his whole deal).
Taylor has pretty much guaranteed that little boys won't want to play with the Jon Kent action figure.
You know, because of his aversion to all that action.

Totally agree that the story should always come first. You can include any character you want with any background, and include those elements into the story, but they should not be the main focus of the story when the point of the story is meant to be action and adventure.
I read Star wars Doctor Aphra, which the main character is lesbian, and in the middle of the first series they have her fall in love with a female Imperial officer. In the battle of both of their groups of people and each other, Doctor Aphra out of nowhere kisses her and establishes that she likes her. It wasn't done in a funny cheeky way that could be hw the character gets out of being killed, but rather it felt extremely forced into the story like this is the point that these character needed to kiss and connect.
There was nothing to indicate to Aphra that this officer was also attracted to women (and in a world of aliens, that would be an even bigger assumption made by her...for all we know, the officer like rodians or twi'leks)). Nothing developed and grew to this moment. Just "we're trying to kill each other, kiss happens, and we go back to we might still be killing each other."
It was the most forced and awkward thing I have ever read, and it would have been that if the character were a straight man and woman. The sexuality had nothing to do with it. It just didn't make sense in the context of the story.

I can't see why a comic reader/fan would be interested in a series where nothing happens. This is escapism entertainment. The conflict and its resolution in a action entertaining manner is what the audience wants. Nobody stands in the shop, or talks with their friends, about how cool it was that the hero solved the problem by 'talking it out'. They wanna see their hero beat the villain in a cool and action packed manner as possible! They wanna be thrilled and blown away. Something they will remember. Issue after issue of talking problems to death does not secure a audience or fan base. That goes just as well for issue after issue of self exploration. Superman is supposed to be thrilling and exciting. You want self exploration go watch Dr Phil. WTF20.

That Dreamer actor hit the nail on the head of why I can't stand any of the gay/trans/nonbinary/racial quota characters- they're not good characters, they're bad caricatures. I have gay/trans/non binary, and all races friends and it pisses me off to see them cheaply used and exploited for a quick cash grab by some of the worlds worst, most bigoted and toxic writers. And I don't give a fuck about the writers, just because they share identity traits with these characters doesn't mean they have the ability to actually write good stories or characters.
The absolute worst part is all these vindictive cunts who hate the medium, fans, genre, and legacy characters they're working with are giving all these groups a bad reputation in the eyes of many people they've been attacking, Guilt by association with their miserable, bitter, toxic asses is not something these ppl deserve.
As an adjacent point. Stracynski is the only writer you could ever sell me a book based just on the writer, no one else in 35+ years has impressed me enough to care before I flip the book open and decide if it's coming home with me. But it means I also never turned a book down because of an author, the story sells me or it doesn't.
Now I have a list of authors I won't buy. When the long time filthy casuals that never do cons or get to know any of the authors and behind the scenes drama are driven to write lists of ppl they won't buy your product from you done fucked up HARD.

Both start with the Joker murdering people Clark cares about to kick start the plot but Injustice takes things to another level. The heroes that side with Bruce and Clark in Injustice are also similar to their teams in KC. While Dick remains loyal to Bruce in Injustice we still see the similar "Batman's son disagrees with him and sides with Superman" plot with Damian.

There is great story present despite this. I am not familiar with the current crop of writers like I used to be so when I found out that the same guy was writing Nightwing and Son of Kalel I was mind-blown. Overall while a liberal agenda does exist it is balanced by conservative writing approach honoring his past and romance with Barbara in order to move forward.
Superman:Son of Kalel is nothing more than a liberal agenda soap box. It's not what we read comics for, that stuff belongs on MSNBC. I wonder how long it will take DC to revert Jon to his biological age.

I'm not a fan of retconning characters you didn't create into being gay like Iceman, Tim Drake, Star Lord and Jonathan Kent. Once they made these characters gay then that's really the only thing that gets emphasized about them. Wonder Woman was supposed to be bisexual from inception and if you don't believe it then research hee creator and the 2 women he lived with so Diana being bisexual didn't bother me as much

So with the fact that Tom Taylor used Jon Kent's coming out as a publicity stunt, if I were a member of the LGBTQ+ community i'd be upset and offended about a writer using that as a gimmick. It's like now when you see corporate companies jumping on the "Celebrate Juneteenth" bandwagon.....are they in genuine support of it or is it just a sales gimmick? Sadly in both cases it's probably the latter.

  • @koushikraja331

    ....what has Jon done?
For all his boldness, Taylor has made sure that Jon kent does diddly squat.
Like, for crying put loud, I still remember Jon asking Clark why didn't he do enough.
Kid, your dad started out as a boots on the floor, hard ass, champion of the people who took on the corrupt 1% and had the entire army going after him. He is currently fighting against a tyrant dictator while being stripped off his powers in a planet where the enslaved people hold that dictator in a high regard and treat him as a God.
Like, christ, even Supergirl and conner started out in a better way and they're popular, well received characters. You're just....like, holy fuck, imagine a Jon kent superman who actually goes into countries where the LGBTQ people are being jailed and it is illegal for them to be themselves (Taylor even said that he would do this at a point) and does some shit.
Imagine having a completely new dynamic with lex luthor. After all his years fighting against superman and after all this time, how would lex see his son? Hell, how would the well established superman villains of metropolis and the world move against someone who is inexperienced and doesn't know how to handle them?
So many ideas, yet we're getting a safe, by the numbers status quo storyline.

Jon being bisexual is not and should not be the problem. The huge problem is that the reveal is emotionally flat, the romance is forced, the love interest is not good, the relationship is unbelievable, but we're all expected to clap and cheer because it's two guys - horrible. This is on top of poor Jon being forced to age up and we lost all of that possible character growth from him.

I read Superman Son of Kel-al and truly this isnt a good superman story. Tom Taylor saying that someone who doesn't use there fist to solve problems and instead talk about them is stronger than using strength. This like I assume mant others puts the final nail in the coffen that Tom Taylor doesn't know who hes writing.
Jon is sepreate than Clark because hes obviously not Clark. However he was still raised by Clark and would honestly take alot from Clark. Jon should be either a mirror and very similar to Clark in terms of morals and how and when to act in certain issues. Superman is a symbol as much as it is a character. Thus every superman who wears the mantle (mostly around Clarks lifetime as superman. Superman 3000 i believe is a good example) Jon isnt superman and its about how he handles things. The time i would like to point out is when batman rightfully warns Jon about Jay. Jons reactions is anger and holding back. Clark would never and not seeing Jon act like this makes no sense when you look at his parents.
Clark saves a Jumper. All star superman did great with the little girl he saved but the one i believe is better for my point is the jumper who he sat and watched and allowed to make the choice whether to jump. When Clark arrives he attempts to save the lady by starting as you would. The woman then refuses and asks to be left alone Clark in reponse says he will stay with her but if she wants to she can he just wants to be with her so she has someone else in her final moments. I believe a day goes by where the woman asks clark repeatedly why hes there still and clark giving the same answer over and over. At night she asks clark to ask the police to turn off the spotlight Clark says yes and heat visons the lights. The next day clark is still there waiting and when the woman finally goes off on clark for still being there she has her break through and clark talks to her about her situation and helps her find hope. At the end of this conversation Clark asks if the woman still wants to jump and she says no and asks him to bring her back down.
Beautiful writing in Clarks humanity truly what he represents and shows everyone one of us and the readers what we can be. Anyone can do what he did and save a jumper and help a persom find hope. My point being Jon doesn't reflect this hes too emotional at wrong times. His pacifist nature hasnt been written well so him punching stuff would help him more than hurt him. Whats missing from Jon is the humanity. As far as ive read its been awhile Jay his boyfriend is actively working with terrorist. Jon doesn't do anything but give his boyfriend a chance. It couldve been handle in a way of Jon trying to see why his boyfriend is workinh with them but also keep him from working with them anylonger. Jon is a horrible superman under Tom and one could only hope someone talented will come along and make him work.

The stories are focused more around this crap than the main character being "super man". Actually, the character is an oxymoron. Being super is being super in MIND, BODY, SOUL and SPIRIT? Jon boy has the super body, but as has been shown in the stories, the rest is that of a little boy who doesn't know anything. He has no life experiences, to make him a man. I could also go into what someone said recently, as in "define a woman". Define a man in regards to this character? "IT" might have the parentage, and powers, but ZOD's son is more MAN. The story in LSH where "MON-el" is pissed beyond imagine about "superboy", i can understand. He's a ZOD and more so, he has a FAMILY, which is out of context with "super BOY". The introduction of this dreamer character, which i know nothing about, except it is a "DREAM GIRL" rip off, means what? The only thng that has been promoted about either of these characters is their sexuality, which, considering the venue and DC comics trying to connect with young people, is akin to propaganda. Trying to make "that lifestyle" normal. By all means, do so, and lose money.

    • @orinprime3282
      @orinprime3282 2 года назад +1

Further, as to this lifestyle, i've been seeing a lot of youtube video about young people who went through the transitioning process early and as they entered in their 20's, are now de-transitioning, going back to how theywere born. Unfortunately, for some of them, the scars physically and mentallty run deep. For some people, it might just be there thing, but, from a comic perspective, brainwashing people to want to be this, drag shows or whatever, forcing the issue, is wrong for others. Jon Kent is neither "super Boy" or "super Man". What next, will he be dressing up as "Harley Quinn" or doing the transgender thing or some kind of secret thing?? What depravity can we expect next? Hero? HERO???? The real heroes are "FIREMEN" OR AMBULANCE PEOPLE" or " DOCTORS WHO ARE ON THE FRONT LINES, SAVING LIVES and not these theoretical wannabes who know absolutely JACK about medicine. Beg pardon for the rant. Thanks for posting.

The following video clip has character designs from "whatever" version they were on. Jon Kent, is not, nor wil ever he ever be capable of this level of sacrifice or love. He is playing a game, but "it" will never know, the writers of this character will never know, DC will never know. The justice league they want to put in plae is not capable of dealing with a threat like this, much less a "dark crisis". Re-read how they wrote the little super punk in dark crisis and you can tell. Super? He might have the powers, but he is less than a boi, even less than a child.
