I love hydrangeas, but here in north Florida I’ve never seen anything like that before, they are incredible in color and size. Mine bloom in May and they don’t last but a few weeks.
I’m wondering also do you have snakes, poisonous ones? You must not the way you’re walking through all the high grasses.

How lovely that you’ve got well established bushes there, just be careful to pick them at the right time and when dry maybe try hairspray. I often spray paint mine which helps with the shedding. Also I think it depends on the type, Annabelles shed quite a lot whereas mopheads don’t tend to IMO 😊🤗

dear Tracey, how do you properly dry bulrushes or cattails? I have tried but they all explode on me :(

you are probably picking them too late, they need to be picked as soon as they turn brown, just after pollination, then remove any foliage, hang upside down somewhere dark and cool with little humidity then after a few weeks spray with hairspray and display. It’s the same with hydrangeas, when you pick them is key! Hope that helps 🤗

I think it’s down to picking them at the right time, drying in a cool dark space and sometimes I use hairspray😁

If you spray the bulrushes well with hairspray as soon as you pick them, they won't explode 😊
