To be honest - none of these. I'd rather have a classic Standard SG, not its modern version (there's the ESP Viper for that) or a Guild Polara, an old Yamaha SG2000 or a StreetFighter series Yamaha rather than a Revstar and a stripped down PRS S2 standard 22 satin or an older, 90's CE-24.
If pressed to choose between these exact models, I'd take the S2 hands down.

@@robertbriquet If you have a really good example of an SG, revstar doesn't hold a candle to it. I've had about four revstars and any Gibson SG I've had/tried buries them alive. I also don't get why people would compare the Revstars with and SG, they're more akin to a double hum LPJ or a LP Double Cut than an SG.
The focus switch for me has became so helpful, it gives me that fat jazz tones instantly.
I have the Element version and they call it a "high pass filter", and honestly I find it completely pointless. It just makes the guitar sound duller. I'd rather just have a conventional tone pot, and another volume control.
@@RobotShlomothe Element’s “Dry Switch” is different from the Standard and Professional’s “Focus Switch.” Do you play in live settings? I didn’t appreciate the feature until i used it in a live band setting as far as sitting in the mix.
I knew that you will like prs best. Revstar is my choice.
I agree the focus switch is pretty useless on the humbucker Revstar, I returned my and got the P90 and on this the focus switch is much better suited. It’s really useful and I use it constantly.
I got the P90 version, too, and love the switch.
PRS and Gibson are tired. Fender is meh. Yamaha Revstar p90 standard is phenomenal
Revstar is the inspiring instrument for me. SG - rock machine (an excellent one). PRS - overpriced decent build tool
PRS are all ugly IMO. The Revstar is by far the best looking instrument.

I like the revstar clean switch, especially when other instruments are too close or too many instruments in the same lower Hz in the arrangement. It makes the guitar stick out a bit more 🤭When it comes to switching microphone position I agree with you. It also depends on personal preferences and style. But when using the clean switch I pretty much get where I want. It makes it, not only to five varieties of tones, but ten. Yes, they are still pretty organic though. It fits my style, but you have of course right in an objective sense when it comes to variety of tones.
Thank you for this. I’ve been looking for a guitar to gig with specifically and all three of these have grabbed my attention at some point. It’s great to be able to see them together and I think I’d be happy with either one of them, but I just bought an S2 before I watched this video. Thanks again!

Mate, if it's that what prevents you from getting a custom 24, try the 24-08 version, they don't have a weirdly possitioned blade switch but a toggle switch in a more comfortable place. Plus, if you love changing pickups the two mini switches give you some crazy tonal variety mixing single coil and humbucker sounds.
I wanted a custom 24 but hated the very same thing as you so I bought a custom 24-08 and man, that’s my number one guitar now.
Edit: I forgot to mention that my number two guitar is a Yamaha Revstar.😅

Your problem with the Revstar II is you have the humbuckers and not the P90s. On a P90, you will really hear a difference - and not so much the humbuckers. Same goes for the Boost function, which is a good solo tone with the neck pickup.

I'm going to set the cat amongst the pigeons with this comment BUT Gibson are way over rated IMHO. For the price you can't go pass the Yamaha Revstar especially if it has P90's. It is one hell of a guitar. The PRS is also another beautiful guitar but it's the Revstar for me.

I think that the idea of emphasizing the lower tones can be very functional when we usually use a high-gain solo pedal; these lower tones give more body to the solo.

After having owned a few revstars, I have to disagree. They're great value, super nice to play, pretty but do not even come close to what a good example of an American guitar, be it a nice Gibson or PRS or Fender, can be in terms of overall experience and sound. With PRS you're not likely to find any crap guitar, maybe just something uninspiring, while with Fender and moreso Gibson you probably have to look for a specific one that has no issues and speaks to you.
Most revstars are more or less on par with the better indonesian made guitars or the usual S.Korea ones, more or less the same quality as PRS SE in all respects. The Japanese ones are ridiculously expensive. Most of those sound muffled and don't have too much harmonic complexity, due to both wood quality / finish type and pickup/electronics choice. They do sound nice but it's a safe sound, not too much adventure going on there and nothing too inspiring.
I did like the 720b a lot though and their P90 models are nice too, although I thought the specific P90s they use in them suck. I really wanted to like them enough, but ultimately I don't think they're anything special. Their older Streetfighter models are pretty interesting though.
In my experience, Revstar was a good idea let down by not so great wood, subpar pickups and some odd choices in design favoring a certain aesthetic rather than focusing on tone. I also dislike their Gen2 finishes, those satin textures on the original ones were much more attractive IMO. Japanese are weird in general, many of their products reflect some great choices and attention to detail but also have some strange pitfalls.
By contrast, American bubba guitars are usually built from very good wood stocks, dry and solid, which usually makes for some pretty resilient guitars that are easy to play and have naturally nice harmonics and bite. The designs are of course dated, because the market in general failed to respond positively when they tried to innovate too much. Fit and finish and fine detail can be hit and miss with F and G, but as I've said, you only need to find one or two good examples of those, not 100 :)
I really appreciate when somebody is able to tell the difference between wire on dead wood and and instrument which does shape a rich and full tone. Most players, even pros can't. The unplugged acoustic tone says it all. For the most you only have to plug the low E and hear if it is ringing or muffled.
Chambering is ruining guitars these days esp. when it is done secretly. Really annoying what some brands do to their costumers. Stop it! Clearly have it in the specs, if you chambered the body or not!
If you mean the Revstar, they clearly states it, actually they advertise it as a cool feature. I don’t think I’m that good to notice that, but thanks for the compliment anyway!

It is really funny/incredible to me as I’ve bought in the last three years a SG Modern (the blueberry one) and a PRS S2 Custom 24 (same color!!!) ! 😀 These guitars are really 2 different horses to me! I was enjoying the SG because I get it first (and also because it was my first “real” Gibson!) but when I received the S2, it became my daily one. My 2 cents: neck and pickup définition are far better on the S2! Moreover, I dislike the fretting work on my SG, whereas it is perfect on the S2! So S2 for me! 😉 Yet, this is my personal taste! 😄 Saluti!
(NB: pickup selector doesn’t bother me, I find it really robust. The only weak point is the tremolo spring system that should be screwed back periodically to avoid some unpleasant resonance after hours of playing)
