    You just ate pork porridge with herbs. When eating, add black pepper and a little fish sauce, then mix well. Meat porridge is very good for health, especially when you have a cold. Meat porridge is often eaten in the morning. Vietnamese people love to take it away for the elderly or children (weak teeth) at home or to visit patients in the hospital.

    That's just crazy for the amount of food you can get! That che is something I'd absolutely love. I wish the food tour guides would showcase that type of che instead of just fruit in condensed milk...like really, guys? Jeeze. The bo ne (steak & eggs) looks amazing, too. BTW, if you see quay (the fried breadsticks) at a soup place, always order it to go with your soup. Chao/congee tastes great with quay (same for pho). Quay is served more in the north with soups than in the south.

    Feeling a bit nostalgic watching you eating chao (porridge). Last time I ate chao was years and years ago my mom made it for me when I was sick. I had plenty of oatmeal/grit for breakfast, though. But savory porridge is way far more superior.

    • @doodahgurlie
      @doodahgurlie 4 месяца назад +2

      There are many versions of chao (congee) in Vietnam. The version he had is minced pork. There's a delicious blood sausage one, but it often comes with offal. The chicken one is super popular and when eaten at home, there'd be goi (carrot and cabbage salad) to go with it. There are also seafood versions. In Hanoi, there's a version where the porridge itself is basically blended or uses rice flour so it's got a different look and texture. If you order it in Vietnam and you see the fried breadsticks, always add that as it makes it that much more delicious. If the chao is watery, you can dip it in there, if not, just break it into pieces and drop into your porridge before eating.

    That "bo ne" dish (sizzling steak) is a killer. I used to sprinkle the soy sauce onto the egg then use the baguette to wipe the mix of sauce and meat drippings on the grilling plate.
    Fun fact about Vietnamese eateries using real fresh ingredients vs food here in the US. There's a restaurant chain here in the US called Chilis and they have the fajitas dish that has food on a sizzling iron plate as well. EXCEPT Chili uses a trick in creating the sizzling sound. They spray a liquid concoction right before they take the plate to your table so it sounds like the meat is sizzling and cooking on a hot hot plate but it's not, it's the liquid spray that is making the sound. Kind of like how you get a clothes iron hot then sprinkle some water and hear that sound.

    • @doodahgurlie
      @doodahgurlie 4 месяца назад

    Not bad, i usually eat that when i'm sick. Lol. its an everyday item for everyone, influenced by Chinese. Chinese people eat congee and bread stick donut in the morning. Vietnamese remixed it and added more toppings in it, I know it looks like muesli/oatmeal, but its different. However, young people out age 20s-30s don't eat it often, at least for me. It's most likely pork blood you're eating in there as well. Congee is the safest nutrition food, but its not the most appealing. We shoudl do a vietnam collabo one time.
