** Important Update ** 6/27/20:
I’m just now thinking about this, but I should’ve mentioned this in my video. But the best shampoo and conditioner to use with this method is going to be natural shampoo and conditioner. So I recommend Shea Moisture. Specifically Shea moisture Curl and Shine shampoo and conditioner. They aren’t harsh on your hair and won’t leave your hair feeling like rubber after you wash it. It will feel soft, moisturized, and clean. So try it out!
Update 9/15/20: I've been seeing quite a few people commenting "But isn't that for your skin?"
Honestly, it doesn't really matter what the intended use of this is unless it was a product that contained certain ingredients that should not be applied to certain parts of the body because of the possibility of adverse effects. The Bentonite Clay is not one of those products. If you don't want to put it in your hair, then just don't do it.

I’ve seen many curly hair tutorials around and a lot of the people doing the tutorial already have some type of curl pattern to begin with. So, I just thought I’d make my own tutorial that can possibly bring you from afro-like hair to curly hair.
You should leave the clay in for 30 minutes to 2 hours. And if you don’t know if your hair is long enough to do this, I would say in order to know if it’s long enough, go by this: if you have to use a pick for your hair (instead of a comb), it’s long enough.
The shower cap, spray bottle, and bonnet can be bought at Walmart or a beauty supply store. All products can be found at a beauty supply store. But I don’t recommend buying the linked items from a beauty supply store just because it will cost more. But if you value your convenience more than your out of pocket expense, just buy them while you’re at the beauty supply store.
My eyes were reddish because I had finished when I was tired and I wear contacts as well, so ignore that part.

Odell my hair is super frissy and yes I was actually surprised that it worked so well because my hair gets really dry and ive tried so many other things and they have never worked so this helped so much. The only other way my hair was ever really curly is when I parted it and curled it which took so long and only lasted 2 days but this is wayyyy better

elijah none yeah but after a while you can replace the clay mask with deep conditioner or just take out the whole step in general if your hair gets used to being that way

How often do you take your hair out to wash it/ is there a way to wash your hair in this style? I followed your tutorial and I love my curls, but it has been a week and my hair is getting dry and i think I'm going to have to wash it and re curl it.
Benjamin Jackson when my curls start getting frizzy and they don’t have as much bounce when it’s wet, that’s when I wash my hair and redo the process. So to me it sounds like it’s the exact time to redo it. I’m glad you did the process and that it worked for you!

I now have about 3 inches of hair, longest it’s ever been and it comes halfway down my forehead (I have a huge one 🤦🏾♂️). In a couple weeks I’m gonna blow dry it and get it braided, that’s when the real journey begins 👍

My hair is the same length rn cuz I cut my locks off. You would run a similar process but use the styling product and basically make circles with your finger in your hair if that makes sense.

1. Aztec Clay - Walmart
2. An empty plastic bowl - Walmart / Use From Home
3. A plastic Spoon - Walmart / Use from Home
4. A Container - Dollar Tree / Use from home
5. Your desired leave in - Walmart (If your trying to find his leave in^)
6. Spray Bottle (Fill with water) - Dollar Tree
7. ECO Gel - Walmart
8. Shower cap - Walmart
9. Bonnet - Walmart
Last but not least you must be
Darskin/ Lightskin / Brownskin

Diana S. I wouldn’t wash your hair úntil it’s time to redo this process. And I don’t wear a shower cap or anything. If I had a full Afro (no fade) I probably would wear one so the back of my head wouldn’t be wet when I try to go to sleep.

Will this formula work on getting waves
Possibly. You should do just the clay part, add in your moisturizer, and then brush your hair. I think it’s very likely it will help for deeper waves since this method does loosen up your curl pattern.
Does your hair get trained to the point where it just stays like tht even when wet?
Malachi _ Footballboss Yes. It takes a little while, but last night when I washed my hair, the curls were there. They won’t be defined though, but you will definitely be able to tell that your hair has a good curl pattern.

potato salad In opinion, your hair type isn’t nearly as important as your porosity. I personally feel that hair type really only describes what your curls look like, but people with similar hair types do have similar hair care routines in some cases, so I think it’s nice to know in some cases to find out what works for your hair, but it’s not a huge factor.

Maybe one a week. Or every other week if I’m feeling lazy. And yes it definitely shrinks each day after you do this. And you can’t can’t stop the shrinkage. The only thing is the redo the process, minus the clay after the 3rd time or so.

I wish my hair was like yours because I'm light skin an I got a looser texture. Even though I feel grateful I don't have to do all that for it to curl I feel like a tighter curl pattern looks better. But I'm try all the methods so I can maybe define it to be a tighter curl pattern because if I even look at my baby photos I used to have an even looser curl pattern and I got smaller overtime. Also some of my curls are tighter than others like one or two of my curls are as tight as your and some are looser my hair is kinda inconsistent and idk how to fix that but I'm trying my best all part of my hair journey 👍🏽

No. When you wake up your hair should be flat. So you spray it with some hot/warm water and shake your head. Then you’ll be fine for the rest of the day, if you don’t lay down.

Just make sure your clay isn’t too thick if it might be a problem. And you can even pre rinse it in the sink, and then get everything out in the shower.
