About Blur:
Blur were formed in 1989 by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree and signed with Food/EMI the same year. Announcing their arrival with debut album Leisure in 1991, Blur continued to revolutionise the sound of English popular music with second release Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993). Five successive UK #1 albums followed - with Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995) helping to propel the band to mass popularity in the UK and beyond. The eponymous Blur was released in (1997) and seventh album Think Tank (2003) was Blur’s first as a three-piece after the temporary departure of founding guitarist Graham Coxon.
Twenty one years after the release of their debut album, 2012 saw Blur 21: The Box, the band's body of work compiled and gathered together into one box. Their most recent release as a four-piece, the critically acclaimed chart-topping album The Magic Whip (2015), started life in Hong Kong when the band had an unexpected break in touring in May 2013.

This album is such an acute satire of english society.
most of them are. Great Escape and Modern Life is Rubbish similar. Maybe the latter is a bit on the nose !

Must have been amazing to have lived in a time when this was considered accessible pop music for the masses - there's really creative musicianship and musical interplay combined with socially conscious and aware lyrics, there aren't many if any pop acts out there today with their eyes open like this.
The 90s was an amazing time to be alive and the music was mind blowing
well said!
How old are you Matt? Youre talking like this was the 1950s, I was alive during this period and it was fine but in no way was it amazing, it was just a standard rock tune cos we didnt know any different.
I wish I could go back. I was 18 when this album came out.
@@samanthalarner5895 I was only 14 but I didnt become aware of the album until my 20s.
tracy jacks: literally about a man having a midlife crisis
blur fans: WATCH ME THROW IT BACK
Alex James's f...ing great bassline!
It's ok, you can swear
Even though this is only the second track in the album, it would also make an excellent final track in Parklife. It really has that finale, feel-good vibe.
Even though it's about a man having a midlife crisis
Feel good vibe? its about a middle aged man having a mental breakdown......
@@theyellowlightsaber3193 I rarely pay attention to lyrics in a song. I'm more of a melody-focused guy, hence why I find myself tapping my foot at this song, despite its dark themes.
@@AgsmaJustAgsma Im sure that wasnt the intention, Blur dealt with off kilter tunes, far from being a "good vibe" its spose to signify the guy's descent into madness under the guise of hedonism which is what youre no doubt confusing as the "good vibe" but this is in no way a feel good tune. Blur's themes on thier first three albums generally dealt with ennui and the insanity of people living boring repetitive lives in the suburbs.
"I'd love to stay here and be normal but it's just so overrated!!"
P
My dad had this album on cassette in the 90s and he always used to play it in the car whenever we went for a day out or when we drove to a pub in an evening, so these songs always remind me of those times!

OH MY GOD THE FUCKING NOSTALGIA!!
I was 16 and working in a hotel overlooking fistral beach in Newquay. Parklife album was the soundtrack, what a summer that was.
ahhh, people who were young (but old enough to remember) in those days are so lucky. I only started school in 94 :(
Pop perfection. Can't believe I bought this CD for £15 in 1999, then a few years later it was only £9.
now its around £0
On RUclips certainly, or £1 maximum at Poundland!
Or 50p in charity shop lol
This represents the unique firm of pop Blur quickly mastered. I love Oasis and all that, but Blur were more talented musically and pushed their boundaries far further. Oasis never quite coalesced past "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants," and they fell by the wayside artistically despite commercial success.
this has the noel gallagher seal of approval "i don't hate graham coxon i mean tracy jacks is a fucking mega song!"
I hear this n I'm 17 n working in a factory, coming down off acid n trying not to fall off a roofing joist. Fucking good times!!!
I like Oasis and Blur but songs like this show there was actually more going on with Damon and Graham if you know what I mean?
Dennis Osborne do you mean more of a collaborative writing effort or a more dynamic relationship?
I'd choose the second one. Maybe Noel IS a great songwriter, but join a band and said that he will write all the songs by himself is so selfish, in contrast to blur with damon writing the lyrics and the music but the music was a collaborative process of the 4 members, and that's what makes blur better than oasis.
+Rodrigo Manuel Ibarra Juarez
Graham also wrote lyrics and instrumentals, particularly from their self-titled album onward.
Rodrigo Manuel Ibarra Juarez Just because it was a "collaborative effort" doesn't mean it's better. You cannot just claim that because everyone was getting along and working as a whole that makes them automatically better than oasis. Oasis method worked, why complain about it. Liam was never a good songwriter and the others were average at best. Noel alone, was able to make some of the best songs of the 90s and today, if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Simply because their not writing the lyrics together doesn't mean the band isn't a group effort. I could aknowledge and respect any other argument as to why blur is better, but the argument because they all wrote songs together is horseshit.
Rodrigo Manuel Ibarra Juarez Noel never said that lol and Liam and other band mates wrote songs for later albums
The best track XTC never made !
Can always hear very early pink floyd and syd barrett influences in their music. Brilliant band and way better than oasis although they were also awesome
i do hear a very early 70s Roger and Syd. Reminds me of piper at the gates of dawn a little bit.
I an obsessed with Blur. So goddam good!
Almost a year and I'm still not over them. Talented bastards
On the day Parklife came out I rushed into town, went into the mall and waited for Our Price to open. Rushed to the counter and asked for the CD. On my way out, I noticed it was wall to wall Blur. That was my "this is going to be huge" moment :)
De las mejores de Blur 🖤
Sounds like a good Anime Opening for life. I swear I heard it in a movie, unless my imagination is messing with my memory.
Edit: Just realized the song is 420 long. Nice.
Bloody hell, last year at high school flashback!! Nostalgia! :D
Parklife will always be a classic 90s albulm, reminds me of sunny summers day playing football in the fields with my mates as a kid.

Blur > Oasis
hellofajr Nah Oasis have a lot more decent songs than Blur but I like them both
Blur ≠ Oasis Actually
@Jack Mounsor you know the competitive attitude of Noel Gallagher headed his wishes of writing really good music. Damon fell the same way too. So if you have this kind of high quality music is due to competition in someway
@@Tombrosapien Nah.....you're dead wrong there. And blur have one of the best guitarists and bass players in history.
The attitudes were totally different; Blur were about the Kinksian character studies. Oasis’ goal was to send a message of hope to the world... at least that’s my standing on this... both bands released defining albums of the 1990s
This and 'London Loves' are my favourite album tracks from Parklife.

Try XTC's "Respectable Street". BTW Andy Partridge helped produce 'Modern Life Is Rubbish'
@@taxus750 Andy Partridge produced a few songs during the development of Modern Life Is Rubbish, but all those recordings got scrapped. I don't believe there's a lick of Andy Partridge on the finished album.
@@k-leb4671 I've since done a little more digging and it seems there is doubt about the part Partridge had: I acknowledge that. What you believe is your concern; to me (and apparently others), the resemblance to an XTC song is striking.

Am I the only who can picture XTC performing/putting this on either the Black Sea or English Settlement album?
Indeed... Heard this (for first time ever) on Radio 6 this morning and thought it WAS XTC and Partridge was putting on the mockney...
Yes but Damon's artistry offers an occult mystery element that XTC lacks....a deeper heart and soul. XTC is great but I prefer Blur. Andy Partridge could never author or sing a song like "This is a low".
You've learnt no lessons
all that time so cheaply spent
there's no youth culture
only masks they let you rent
Travels, travels in Nihilon
we've seen, no Jesus come and gone
Fashion, their vampire
drapes itself across your back
as you fall from style
it waits rebirth on its rack
Building your whimsy
hypnotising you to need
dance goes full circle
one step ahead of your greed
You've learnt no lessons
all those years to get it right
flashes of promise
burn out faster than strobe light

I always thought Oasis were so much better than Blur, but then I actually really started listening to Blur in depth....
oasis were better pal. but blur were pretty good i could be wrong but i get the feeling these were from a richer background than oasis in my opinion it shows in their lyrics.
You're all crazy. Oasis and blur were both incredible. Oasis had hooks that made you cry, life forever, slide away, stand by me, girl in a dirty shirt, I hope I think I know, all of morning glory, etc, if u wanna talk just pure pop perfection their 1994-1997 period blew blur out of the water. But blur was always superior as far as musicianship and changed constantly. Blur was so consistent and awesome at every turn. U can't choose one. Screw u all for trying to pick one over the other. Why can't you just love them both and agree that they were both far better than nirvana. Lol. And I'm american!
First blur tune I remember! When I started secondary school. Many good fun memories !

Woo-ooh Woo-ooh
Name a bad song on this album??? That's right, there aint one. classic.
There isn't one, and it is, but I can't be the only one who skips Parklife itself due to how ubiquitous it is, especially in adverts. Same with "The Universal" on The Great Escape, it was the theme for fucking bobble headed British Gas men in CGI Corsa vans, it's card is marked forever for that. I even skip Town called Malice on The Gift due to how many shit things have thought they deserved being soundtracked by it over the years.
