About Blur:
Blur were formed in 1989 by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree and signed with Food/EMI the same year. Announcing their arrival with debut album Leisure in 1991, Blur continued to revolutionise the sound of English popular music with second release Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993). Five successive UK #1 albums followed - with Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995) helping to propel the band to mass popularity in the UK and beyond. The eponymous Blur was released in (1997) and seventh album Think Tank (2003) was Blur’s first as a three-piece after the temporary departure of founding guitarist Graham Coxon.
Twenty one years after the release of their debut album, 2012 saw Blur 21: The Box, the band's body of work compiled and gathered together into one box. Their most recent release as a four-piece, the critically acclaimed chart-topping album The Magic Whip (2015), started life in Hong Kong when the band had an unexpected break in touring in May 2013.

This has got to be one of the best songs ever made
Definitely in the top one

You won't get an argument from me on this!
Absolutely
Agreed! It’s sublime 🥰❤️👌🏻
Late to the party here - 65 year old Yank who somehow missed the fact that Blur was one of the best bands of all time. Am very happy to have recently had that insight.
Welcome Sir😊
Ha! I was 12 when this came out but it was the soundtrack to my youth and this album is a masterpiece. I think Blur actually got better as they went on.
I love Oasis too, but they are good in different ways. I want oasis on in the pub after 5 pints. Blur I can sit down and listen to an album and it’s more nuanced and takes itself a little less seriously at points.
as a guitarist I think Coxon is vastly underrated and he’s absolutely breathtaking at times. It’s the fusion of Albans pure songwriting whit coxons alternative and avabr garde style. Nobody plays like Graham Coxon.
Have you heard of Magazine or Cardiacs? You'll thank me later...
@@TheManwithaview Checked out Cardiacs at your suggestion… oh my god I have never heard anything like them - so yes, thank you!
You’re more than welcome!
I saw Blur for the very first time, on Sunday, at Wembley.
I'm still emotional now, from it. I was cool as a cat on the day and night of seeing Weller and Blur (I missed The Selecter) - but it is still hitting me, four days on.

One of the greatest songs ever written and composed.

One of the best songs of all time.
They should put this and the entire album in the British Museum for future generations to hear. A work of art.❤
You have my complete agreement. This is a song to represent the best of which humanity is capable. It's magnificent.
will be one of the few things actually belonging to britain there lol!
yeah but this song is british and everyone knows nothing in the British Museum is actually british
parklife is one of those rare albums in the history of music where every song is a classic.
Yeah
parklife is easily one of the best pop albums i’ve ever heard. going into it, i didn’t expect it to be as good as it was
what about the debt collector?

And into the sea
Goes pretty England and me
Around the bay of Biscay
And back for tea
Hit traffic on the dogger bank
Up the Thames to find a taxi rank
Sail on by with the tide
And go to sleep
And the radio says
This is a low
But it won't hurt you
When you're alone
It will be there with you
Finding ways to stay solo
Up the Tyne, Forth and Cramity
There's a low in the high forties
Saturday's locked away on the pier
Not fast enough, dear
And on the malin head
Blackpool looks blue and red
And the queen, she's gone round the bend
Jumped off Land's End
And the radio says
This is a low
But it won't hurt you
When you're alone
It will be there with you
Finding ways to stay solo
This is a low
But it won't hurt you

@thedarkhorse1971 Same as the "Dogger Bank" sandbank in the North Sea which is also mentioned in this song.
Finding ways to stay sober …..
Confirmation: Damon Albarn and his band moved into the very top league with this poetical, visionary epic. Absolutely, breathlessly brilliant! 👌

My fave Blur song and has such meaning, Its the shipping weather forecast references and a ton of emotional innuendos. Not to mention a spine tingling guitar solo. Its complete musically for me and I want it played at my funeral.
when i watched them live in 2013, they played this before encore. at that moment, i felt that if my life ends that night, my life had already complete.
One of the greatest emotional songs
30 years later and it still sounds fresh
I’d love it if they’d do a ten day residency in the NYC area, as would so many fans in the states. Coachella doesn’t deserve blur.
This song has always given me chills. One of my favourites
This is the best Blur song ever! I knew it in 1994 & I certainly know it now. It's got everything.
Their peak song.
All rise for the U.K. national anthem. 🇬🇧
Seriously though, this song makes me feel oddly patriotic for this beautiful little group of islands. ❤️🤍💙
As it should be. While every country in the world has its cons of living in it, I think people in the UK should be proud to be part of the country or countries where the best popular music has been produced for over 50 years. Your creativity brings joy and happiness to people all over the world.
@@robsdianten1 Yeah, but have you listened to music from everywhere in the world to judge? Music in english ends up being more famous, but that doesnt mean its the best. Althought I do believe Blur and this song were.
@TomasLeiteLeite that's why I said "popular" music. Of course, I know there's an infinite list of good music around the world and that I probably could never listen to even 1 % of that list. Those music are most of the time, and sadly, only for people near the culture where they have made.
Graham's guitar in this song is amazing
Coxon is one of the most underrated of all the great British rock guitar players imho
This song makes me feel good and bad at the same time. But I love it.
Stunning...haven't stopped listening since 1995 ❤
I'm right back in my student days when I listen to this. Poor, hopeful and content. Thank you for the memories ❤
Such a beautiful song, an exceptional piece of poetry, and Graham's guitar playing is gorgeous.
Just heard Blur perform this live at Wembley. What a fu*king song! ❤
Verses, esoteric, British, the chorus a howl of euphoric melancholy.
Love the tension in the guitar strings
This is my FAVOURITE track from Blur.... Always has been ❤️
One of Blur's very best...
This feels like a reasonable day to listen to this song 🕊️🇬🇧
one of their best songs! This song has such a huge impact on one's soul!

I was completed lost in Parklife. Wandering in streets of London, those were good days, for sure
I wasn't a massive Blur fan at the time......but there just simply isn't music as good as this made nowadays.
So glad i was a teenager in the 90's.
I'm pretty sure people say this about every generation.
Yea I was bolstered firmly in the OASIS camp but u can't deny great music...
Takes me back 2 when my dear Mum was with me. Miss her beyond words ... this is a low 😢😢😢😢😢😢

@@incominghitdadirt9587 Best of luck to you.
Beautiful, blissful, hallucinatory psychedelia - the kind that Syd Barratt or Lennon and McCartney would have been proud to have produced in '67. Arguably Blur's crowning achievement. Happy 30th birthday, Parklife.
Sounds nothing like Syd Barrett
@@dang2443 I never said that it did.
@@snapsnappist4529 Yeah you did,
@@dang2443 Mmm. I'm pretty sure that you're just being a troll, but on the off-chance that you really have trouble reading, I'm happy to elaborate.
My comment above says that the song is "the kind that Lennon and McCartney or Syd Barratt would have been proud to have produced", meaning that it is part of a tradition of English psychedelia. I could have used other examples, like The Soft Machine, for instance (who Albarn's father managed at one time).
None of these groups sounded exactly alike, but they all had the hallmarks of psych.
But, hey, if you want an example of a song that _does_ sound like Syd Barratt, I refer you to the song "Far Out", another track off of Parklife.
Have a good one.
@@snapsnappist4529 Such a laughable, long-winded, pretentious, bullshit attempt to move the goalposts and pretend that you actually know what the fuck you're babbling about, when clearly you DO NOT.
Depression is all over this..their best song imo
This song contains one of my all-time favourite guitar solos. Graham made that tele wail.
I'm trying to leave a comment in every video to prove that Blur keeps being an awesome band even through the years

Un disco perfecto y un grupo genial. "This is a Low" no fue un hit single, pero para mi está en lo más alto, me siento orgulloso de haber hecho una versión, aunque sea de las más sencillas que hay por aquí / A perfect album and a great group. "This is a Low" was not a hit single, but for me it's at the top, I'm proud to have made a version, even if it's one of the simplest around here.
Sing - Blue Jeans - This is a Low - The Universal
A wonderful batch of indie ballads from Blur's first four albums ❤
The story I was told years ago was that they wrote this song travelling from gig to gig in the back of a Transit van after they'd packed up all their gear and headed off to the next town listening to the Shipping Forecast on BBC Radio 4 after the midnight news. Quintessentially British.
Epic, sublime, absolute masterpiece.
Proud to be the same age as these boys. This Is A Low is for posterity
El solo de Graham es todo lo que está bien. De los mejores temas de Blur.
The way that Damon sings "it goes pretty"....just makes me feel crazy things in my insides.
My GOD, I'm glad I listened to this tonight.

Soundtrack of my life...thank you so much for all the wonderful music
Such a moving and emotional song about... the shipping forecast.
This song gives me goosebumps.
Blur should have been a success in the states.
I know right? But the lyrics seems to be so British for states people
They had hits in the USA.
As an American I wish that this could be true, but Blur is honestly to British for most Americans.
Simplemente una obra de arte,es hermosa está canción,y la guitarra de Graham es simplemente maravilloso
Blur's finest song. The Beatles could have recorded this, it's very similar in tone to A Day In The Life apart from an absolute blistering guitar solo, which the Beatles could not have done. It really stood out on Parklife as being a real, timeless song.
I don't know. Paul McCartney teared up the guitar on taxman.
@@JeremiahPickardMusic That's true
I don't agree at all. End Of A Century is a much better song, as are many others. And the guitar solo - if you can call it that - seems to be deliberately ruining the mellow feel of the song..
The Beatles weren't a big lead guitar group, but you need to listen and learn from their catalogue.
I can hear remnants of _Jubilee_ at the beginning. It actually adds to the atmosphere of the beginning of the song.
Have you written a comment on every blur song yet?
I respect the dedication.
It might be a transitional thing
I cannot listen to this song without crying at all the hurt I have ever felt…

The 90's was the Bronze Age of pop imo, but that record sleeve was the best.

this track almost did not make the cut at all on Parklife.... so glad it did
Ya ever got this tune that just gets better every single time you hear it ;)
Only lasted 26 seconds, too many memories. Had them on repeat back then.
A muso friend of mine remarked "most guitar solos end disappointingly". Doesn't the solo in this song end gorgeously.
This song is nearly as good as any that Blur wrote giving Coffee & TV a close run for second behind the incomparable Beetlebum. A superb effort worthy of The Beatles.
