I think those big fatties have a higher chance of splitting into two plants instead of one. That is what happened with mine, but it did take them a long time to reabsorb the old leaves.
Hi. I just picked up the exact lithops from Home depot a few days a go. Very plump but the soil is bone dry. I put them in my south facing window in close proximity to a grow light. About how long do you think i should hold off from watering? There's no wrinkling. Thank you
You should be safe to splash a bit of water on the soil, like a soda bottle capful is plenty at this stage. It will wick down to the roots and keep them from drying out and dying off. These are already engorged from overwater so keep that in mind.
@@tashalousdadful welcome and thank you! Adding that you whenever you decide to repot, we should always wait a few days or longer before watering to let any broken roots callus/heal.
@@SucsForYou just like I do with my cactus. Thanks again for responding. I've kept some very difficult plants for years. Including carnivorous plants for over a decade now. I haven't had much luck with Lithops and I've learned it's all in the watering. Hopefully we'll keep these beasts alive. 😆
@@tashalousdadful I bet I could learn a lot from you about carnivorous plants - I just assume they'll do well with me because it's so hot and humid here in Houston, but then I go and treat them like succulents watering wise.
If the new growth is small you could cut some of the outer leaves off...

I hope so! It would help those chonky leaves get absorbed more efficiently.
